"What is fair?", my great friend Sergio asked me, as did Socrates, the Greek philosopher who returned with one question to another as a method of reasoning. You have to make an effort to find the one that completes you, hence the discomfort. Blessed be the doubt". 

Irritated, I told him that he was not helping me. Sergio maintained a calm tone of voice to return me to the pleasant atmosphere of this room: "Doubts bring with them questions, which penetrate and lead us to search for the part we are missing; only in the exercise of this search will we find the truth". I argued that I was wrong, since many of the truths that were absolute for me in the past were no longer true today. Sergio smiled and said: "Perfect and wonderful. Everything changes. Do you know what this means? Evolution''. I asked him to explain himself better and he was patient: "Truths change as we alter the levels of consciousness and love. Understanding is transformed by the flowering of virtues in the individual. From flower to flower we build the gardens of humanity; truly in truth we shall find Truth". 

I asked him to exemplify. Sergio was didactic: "Let's go back to the 19th century. Two hundred years in the historical context is a second in history, a time so short that the reflections of that period are still clearly felt today. At that time, much of the world, especially the Americas, was facing the great dilemma of abolishing slavery. Slavery is a resolved issue in modern times, and there is no doubt about the absurdity of one person owning another''.

Argumenté que en cada momento nos enfrentamos a dudas que nos hacen sentir incómodos en diferentes escalas, algunas son banales, otras mucho más serias. Lo malo es que las dudas causan bastante incomodidad. Para empeorar las cosas y dadas mis incertidumbres, me encontré con personas de opiniones divergentes, en contra o a favor, todas convencidas de sus posiciones y con argumentos fuertes. Dije que quería librarme de la incomodidad de la duda y saber siempre qué era lo correcto. En ese momento llegó la pregunta de Sergio sobre qué era lo correcto. Le respondí que si había hecho la pregunta era porque no sabía y necesitaba una respuesta. Sergio tomó un sorbo de café y dijo: "Mi respuesta saca mi verdad, no necesariamente la tuya. Tienes que hacer un esfuerzo para encontrar la que te complete, por eso la incomodidad. Bendita sea la duda". 

Irritado, le dije que no me estaba ayudando. Sergio mantuvo un tono de voz tranquilo para devolverme al agradable ambiente de esta habitación: "Las dudas traen consigo preguntas, que penetran y nos llevan a buscar la parte que nos falta; sólo en el ejercicio de esta búsqueda encontraremos la verdad".
