GENERATES BY META AI

Graham drove frantically on the highway like a mad man being chased. His hands shaked uncontrollably as the almost empty fuel gauge that shone red stared at him like a steady reminder that he couldn't make it on time. But Graham was desperate. Unwillingly to give up, he increased his speed on the steering wheel, driving so fast despite the rain that threatened to slow him down. His eyes occasionally darted to the almost empty fuel gauge. At that point, all Graham knew was he had to make it despite being late. Nothing else mattered other than that.

He had made a promise to his mother some years ago before she passed away that he would always look after his little brother Ronald, where he had reassured her that he would always be right there if his brother needed him. And now here he was, so far away, when his brother was at the point of death. An hour earlier, Graham had received a call from an unknown number that Ronald had been rushed to the hospital after being involved in a car accident and was now currently fighting for his life.

To Graham, it felt like his world was about to be taken from him. He had to be there, he needed to be there for him, Graham thought to himself as he continued driving like a mad man.

While he drove fast, his eyes caught a woman in his headlight mirror standing at the center of the road, her clothes were completely soaked by the rain. She kept on waving her hands up in the air in a desperate attempt to stop any car that passed by. Unfortunately, none was willing to stop on the express highway. However, what attracted Graham’s attention to stop was the desperation he saw in the young woman’s eyes. Almost like how desperate he currently was.

“What happened?” he asked in a hurried tone.

“My little boy! "He’s struggling to breathe, I need to take him to the nearest clinic please,” the woman begged in between pants.

Graham was conflicted. He found it difficult to leave this woman and her son, who was barely up to two years. He looked at the young boy, struggling to breathe, then looked back at his fuel gauge, and also thought back to his brother, who he needed to be there for. It was a matter of choice, a stranger’s son or his own blood. The fuel left in the tank could only accomplish one task. It wouldn't be enough to take this woman and her son to the clinic and still get to his unconscious brother in time for his surgery.

Graham contemplated what to do. Whatever choice he makes now, one person would have to suffer. The young woman dragged his arm through the window, pulling him out of his thoughts.

“Please sir, my son will die if I don't get there on time. "He is all I’ve got, “the woman pleaded with him.

Graham scratched his head in confusion. The weight of his decision, too heavy to make. Then suddenly, he remembered what his mother would always tell him.

“ The true worth of a man is measured by the lives he saves, not the ones he clings to.”

He took a deep sigh, and started the car back on. His mind was finally made up.

“Get in,” he simply said, gripping the steering a bit tighter than usual.

As the car drove through the raging rain towards the clinic, to Graham it felt like he had betrayed his own blood. The guilt of the decision he had just made threatened to eat him up slowly. At the back seat of the car, the woman thanked hime non-stop, showering blessings and prayer upon him. However, Graham mind was far gone, wondering if he made the right choice.

Soon they arrived at a nearby clinic. The nurses quickly took the child from the mother and started attending to him. After about fifteen minutes, a nurse came out of the emergency ward and assured them that the child would live. The mother of the little boy slumped down on the floor with relief, while Graham immediately took off. His heart elsewhere. He got back into his car and quickly drove out, heading towards the hospital his brother was currently admitted to, and desperately praying he wasn't already too late.

In no time, he arrived at the hospital, the fuel in his car tank now empty as the car stopped abruptly at the gate of the hospital. Graham hurriedly took out his car keys and came out of the car, walking quickly to the emergency ward where Ronald was admitted. As he saw Mira, his brother's fiancée, sitting on the hospital floor with her head facing the ground. He felt a pressure in his chest as he prepared himself to hear the worst.

Mira looked up at him as he came close to her, with a faint smile

“His alive! The doctor said he would be alright as long the surgery is done to prevent further complications.”

Graham nodded,a sense of peace taking over him

“Where is he?” he asked.

“In there, but no one is allowed to see him until after the surgery,” she replied, pointing at the door in front of her.

“Okay then, tell the doctor to go ahead with the surgery,” Graham said at last

@riya2020 ·
It couldn't have been easy making that choice and honestly, in Graham's shoes, I would have chosen family.
A very noble act that is.
