Why, Where, and When to Delegate Your HP .:. Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.32 (Wednesday, November 6th, 5 PM UTC)
Two weeks ago, we had a great [anniversary party](https://ecency.com/hive-125125/@ph1102/hhhlive-1st-anniversary-party-hive) of the #HHHLive show (recording is ready, but waiting for 3Speak to come back online) and there, I was running a small quiz (actually it was a whole show quiz 😃) for participants... I made 9 questions regarding the show, and I was thinking of adding one "personal" question to see how well (or not) people know me... The question would be: *"What's the ph1102's favorite Hive topic?"* 😃 For those who know me, this should be an easy question to answer, and that topic will be back in this show... Of course, **HivePower** is the answer! I like how it works, how it can benefit everyone involved, how it can help you grow, etc...

We had HivePower as a topic in our [3rd show](https://ecency.com/hive-125125/@ph1102/aabffnzn) a year ago, where we were talking about the importance of Hive Power... Also, we were talking about it shortly in the [special edition show No.7](https://ecency.com/hive-125125/@ph1102/ecency-waves-hivepower-splinterlands-hivefest), but there is never enough talk about this main advantage of HIVE among other blockchains! In the newest show, I would like to discuss HivePower delegations, which deserve to have a whole show, and I would like to hear thoughts about it from participants!

The idea for raising this topic came from one of the comments on my [HivePUD post](https://ecency.com/hive-122221/@ph1102/100k-november-1st-hivepud-6py) from a few days ago... As I reached 100K HivePower, one comment was about how I should delegate my HP to small accounts and spread it with others... 

There is no good or bad way to use your HivePower, except for NOT using it at all! Of course, I have my opinion about HP delegations, but that doesn't mean that *my way is a good way*... It depends on what you want to achieve with your delegation(s)... Delegating your HivePower means that you are giving "your power" to the hands of someone else... They can use it however they want, and they are getting rewarded for using it... HivePower that you own stays in your ownership, but in some way, you are making a loan of it (you still have all rights to revoke it and "undelegate it")...

Anyways, there are some pros and cons of HP delegations, and by answering the question from the title of this post/show, you should make a list of the pros and cons of doing it! The same as when you are making some important life decisions...

**Why** would you like to delegate your HivePower? Is it because you would like to support a certain person giving him/her more power to "distribute"? Or do you want to support some project that does something important for the platform? Or is it because you want to get the biggest APR for your HivePower?

**Where/To Whom** would you like to delegate? A person, a community, a project? We can talk about the accounts to whom you are delegating... Maybe you run the project and you would like to call people to delegate HP to you. Sell us your idea and maybe you will get some HP delegations!

**When** is the good moment to start delegating HivePower? I know that some could say NEVER as an answer (which is also a valid one 🙂), but this question can be crucial for you as doing it too early could stop your growth... 

**How much** HivePower should I delegate? This one is also one of the important questions... I have to go back to the Internet to find the facts that should help me with this one... The first step is Wikipedia...

I would maybe add one more concept to this Wikipedia explanation, and that's "true ownership" of your content, of your POWER... In my opinion, the point of HIVE (and HivePower) is exactly what it says, you have the POWER to do things, to have/make influence, and it's important that you OWN and USE your power! We are witnessing the completely opposite things in "real life", where our powers are constantly taken out, or even worse, we are giving out easily... The human without any power isn't a human anymore...

With manual curation, you don't get HBD... You get HP... 

Personally, I'm all for manual curation and NOT delegating HP to get automatic upvotes... It kills the purpose of HIVE, decentralization, and actually does the opposite... centralizing voting power... 

But, that's just my opinion... ;)

I think the first time I attended your live was the third episode, in which I first heard the power of HP. and in which direction to go (NFA 🙂). 
Then my vote was worth 0.003, today it's 10x more... The direction is good, I like that, in addition to increasing the value of my wallet, I share more value with others on Hive.

I have delegated less than half of my HP, the reason is to support some projects while also getting some tokens from the said project, at least I can get something in return instead of only HP from the curation reward. Also I am not really good at doing manual curation, don't have time to be online quite a lot or know the best curation window. because mostly I vote when I can, and when I see the post. : )

With the manual, all this on Hive is raised to a higher level, a closer relationship between the author and the curator, the author knows that the one who voted for him really follows him. But again, it's a matter of time, and have the same for Hive.

Heh I think it might have been me who recommended that. 

Back when I was just getting over the huge stake of 10,000 HP (huge because I only set out to accumulate 1000 at the beginning) I started delegating more. 10k was enough for my votes to be worth something and I could help others as I was helped along the way. I can remember when @surpassinggoogle delegate 777 hive (steem!) to me and how much it excited me to have that boost and use it. 

I started putting up prizes for contests which were filled with active builders and for curation projects. Besides the magnanimity of it all, it really helped with my networking and visibility to other larger builders and every bit I put out seemed to come back in the form of support and connection with the community. 

Life has a way of pulling me around and I battle for creating and curating time but I will always battle and strive to be more involved despite the business. Hive lifer.
