Incredible India, Episode - #20: Dadhikar Fort, Alwar, Rajasthan
Welcome back to another episode of Incredible India. In the previous episode, I took you to the [**Hauz Khas Fort Complex**](https://peakd.com/hive-163772/@pravesh0/incredible-india-episode-19-hauz-khas-fort-complex-delhi) in the heart of India's capital, New Delhi. 

In this episode, we are exploring one of Alwar's iconic Fort and resort, the **Dadhikar Fort**.

#### Dadhikar Fort

Located in the foothills of the Aravali range, the Dadhikar Fort was built somewhere between the 9-10th century AD and housed a royal family of King Chand who took refuge here with his family having lost everything to flood in his capital city. This historic fact, as we know it today, comes from a folksong and might have some inaccuracies.

Anyways, this fort found itself in a dilapidated condition only to be later restored and renovated and it now offers visitors the chance to enjoy what would have been a royale life back in the day. 


The entry gate is located at an elevation and you can take your vehicles almost at the gates. You will start to notice the artefacts of medieval India the first thing you will see is a replica of a bullock cart which was heavily used around this area.

As one might expect, the walls of the Fort were made out of Stone taken from the nearby quarries mixed with Mortar which makes it a strong structure. The entryway was filled with local flora including colorful flowers.

We were a group of 5 friends who came to explore the city of Alwar but this Fortress resort grabbed our attention and paid it a visit. It was not in our original itinerary but this was quite a big surprise for us.

The entryway was also decorated with traditional rangoli designs.

This fortress is located in the foothills of Aravali hills in Alwar and the view from here is just splendid. A curved hill surrounds this fort from three sides giving it good protection from that side. But this was not built to protect against invasion but rather as a palace to reside only.

There are many accommodation options available and you can check it from their [official website](https://www.dadhikar.in/accommodations.html) as well. It is also open to regular visitors but you have to buy a ticket/pass to enter the premises.

I love the medieval architecture which heavily used limestones, metal pots and big spikey doors.

This is a luxury hotel and you can book it as a wedding venue. They also offer some traditional music and dance performances on demand.

You can do some recreational activities too.

Or if you are lazy like me, you can spend your mornings in the garden while enjoying your cup of tea. The views from here are excellent.

They have an outdoor terrace dining place as well. We had a cup of tea in here but I missed to take a picture. I hardly take pictures when I am eating or drinking something. I might have to start doing it soon!

You won't get to experience the full beauty of this place unless you head to the top level and take some stairs to get to the terrace.

The best views come from the terrace. You have some sitting options on the terrace as well. We saw many families taking pictures there and it looked like the most popular spots in the entire fort. I don't blame them either, the Aravali range in the distance made it a breathtaking view.

Most of the area below is farmland with just a few houses in sight. They had put colorful light bulbs all over the fort but we couldn't stay until dark to enjoy that view.

The stone walls were decorated with many pictures and wooden artefacts.

It also houses multiple smaller gardens which increase the aesthetics of the entire fortress.

You will also find some traditional beds called, *Khaats*. These traditional beds were commonly used in India and many households, especially in rural and semi-urban areas still use those. we also have one in our house. These and many such traditional household items can be seen lying around in this building.

We enjoyed our short stay and sightseeing at the Fortress resort and came back with a lot of memories. It was a short and sweet adventure, totally unplanned and a pleasant surprise.

I would urge everyone visiting Alwar City to check out this Dadhikar Fort Resort and experience the breathtaking views with your own eyes. Touch and feel the ancient building and architectural wonder by yourself. If you can spare some money book a suite and allow the staff to make you feel part of the royal family.

Invaders tried to destroy it but our cultural heroes sacrificed their lives to protect it. So proud of them! The north-western part of India faced the toughest challenge. 

There is one temple which was plundered, looted and demolished multiple times but each time it was built bigger and better. I guess the recorded number of demolitions is more than 15 times.

There is a protected forest not too far from this area and people take safari trips to see tigers. I won't be surprised if there are occasional tiger spottings in this area.... making it more scary. haha
