This is my entry into this month’s PHC Top 3 contest.

This months topic is **Scary Characters**.

* My number one fear of something scary has always been **snakes**.


#### My Reasons for the Nomination:

<br>


 Crazy phobia, I know, for I am afraid of a harmless garter or even a rubber snake. At one time I couldn’t even look at one in a book or on TV without wanting to scream.  It doesn’t matter if it’s big or small, my reaction is one of fear when I see one.

We do pick up a lot from our parents and my mother was also terrified of snakes.  I remember being in the vegetable garden and she would scream,

>”Run, run, Joanna, run to the house. Hurry, a snake, a snake!”

And we would both run to the safety of the house and not go back to the garden that day. There were no poisonous snake in this  area but it didn’t matter. Just the sight of one stuck terror to my mother and it transferred to me. 

She was also afraid of mice but thankfully, I never picked up that phobia.

I’m not putting a photo of a snake here as I don’t want to see one. Just typing the word is frightening enough.

* My number two fear would be to encounter  **what lives underground.**

#### My Reason for the Nomination two:

Whenever I see a movie or TV show when people are going into small narrow earthen tunnels to hunt for artifacts or Egyptian rulers, long dead, it gives me the creeps.  I would not want to be in one of these underground tunnels that is unstable and the air is too thin. What  lives there can be frightening, such as getting your hair tangled up by the hundreds of bats hanging from the ceiling of the cave  

The chance of meeting a half human half lizard creature or half snake alien in the cave would be a scary experience. Don’t laugh, there have been reports of these scary characters seen in caves with a warning not to engage in a shootout with them. They have more advanced weapons.

Underground holds frightening mysteries. There are many stories of people being buried alive after succumbing to a sleeping illness where everyone thinks you are dead. I’ve seen reports from years ago where the casket was opened and there were claw marks inside. Nowadays, cremation would solve that problem.

#### My Reasons for the Nomination three:

Being sucked dry of my blood by these loathsome long-eye-toothed creatures was a real concern after watching horror shows  of  the undead as a youngster.

This fear was something I got from watching these shows on TV.  I was a youngster when TV first came into our house and exposed my innocent mind to all the horrors that could befall a person.

I remember a show where giant spider-like creatures kidnapped humans and wrapped them in a web to suck the blood out of them. Not enough to kill them immediately but drawing the blood every night until the helpless humans were like zombies.

 Sleeping alone in my own bedroom, I was scared to close my eyes, going over that scene in my mind. It took about a week, after watching the TV show,  before I got over the fear that one might be lurking under the bed.

Then there was Dracula rising out of his coffin at nightfall to find his prey and bite a neck to feast on the blood.  Being young I really believed this could happen and would need a wooden stake to pierce the vampire’s heart or holy water to get rid of these blood suckers.
