*11:45 P.M.*

*Lunar?*

**Stea. <3**

I smiled. Even in times like this, Lunar could still warm me more than any furnace by just texting my name. I was lucky I remembered to turn my VPN on, or surely I’d be caught. 

*11:47* 

*I’m coming to the Moon kingdom. It’s urgent. Meet me by that pond in between. You know the one.* 

He took longer than usual to reply, so I knew he had thought about what I said. 


*11:48*

*Why? What’s wrong?*

*You’ll see*, was all wrote back. I’d have to hurry if I wanted to actually pull this off. 

“Solita, are you ready to leave?” 

“Yes Mama. Why do I have to wear my blanket?”

“Because where we're going, it’s cold.” 

“What’s cold?” 

“You’ll see.” I said again, and I grabbed her hand. 

Figures that my daughter had no idea what cold was. We lived in the Sun Kingdom, where cold didn’t really exist. The sun shined all day and all night, so you could only go to sleep by putting up some dark-colored curtains and throwing a pillow over your head. 

Out of the two kingdoms on Earth, each one had their own power that made them special. In the Sun Kingdom, our skin absorbed energy from the sun and we could give energy to one another and also use it for healing. The Moon Kingdom’s powers had to do with controlling plants.  

The Sun Kingdom was…not on good terms with the Moon kingdom. They were like oil and water. Never going to be in each other's good graces.  That said, if you were born in The Sun Kingdom, you stayed in The Sun Kingdom. But one day, with a group of friends, I ventured out of the kingdom. That’s when I met Lunar. He was on his way to secretly explore the Sun Kingdom when we had ran into each other at the forest in between. If we had been caught, we would have gotten the death penalty, but luckily we hadn’t. The next day I had woken up and Lunar had been at my bedroom window, asking me if I wanted to play. Of course I had followed him, and then meeting had become a regular thing between us, even as adults. 

Eventually, we had been caught once again, this time as adults, and luckily we were able to have run from the guards before they brought us to court to be executed. But what we didn’t know then was I had been pregnant with Solita, our daughter. 
Though I badly wanted Lunar to see her, I wasn’t stupid. I knew I’d be killed if I went back to the forest in search of him right after being caught. So for three years, I stayed away from the Moon Kingdom. 

 Solita was a gift and ment the world to me. She reminded me so much of Lunar. She looked like him, acted like him, and had been born with his powers. But that also meant she wasn’t safe here. I had hid her for three years, but she was growing and couldn’t live socially deprived forever. I wanted her to make friends and experience life the same way I had.  She looked like she belonged in the Moon Kingdom, and so she did. Even though it would mentally kill me to have to take her away, I knew I had to. Because if she was caught and died here, it would physically kill me. 

“Hurry Solita!” I motioned for her to run down our apartment steps, and she did, as fast as she could. 

“I’m trying! My blanket is hot!” She yelled. 

I took the blanket from her and folded it. 

“Stea, hey!” 

I startled and turned to see Yalvin, one of the tenants who lived here as well. 

“What are you doing up this late?” Then his eyes widened, and he pointed at behind me. “A Moonian!” 

He pulled out his phone. “Is this the National Guard? Help there’s a Moonian in my apartment!”

He started to state our address. 

“No!” I yelled, and jumped on him and we tumbled to the ground. He knocked  me off him with one great push and reached for his phone when a huge venus fly trap came out of the ground, and ate his phone. I turned to Solita, who had one outstretched hand. Then she smiled and gave one of the leaves five. I knew at once it had been her, and I smiled. “Great job.” 

I grabbed her hand, and we ran. But I heard boots stomping at the front door. The National Guards were already here. 

I cringed and turned to my daughter. “Think you can grow more things?”

She smiled and nodded. 

“Then grow baby, grow!” 

She grabbed my hand, and with her free hand, she reached towards the mob headed for us. 

The guards soon were soon surrounded by poison ivy. Ouch. Me and Solita moved around the plants and ran, all eyes on us. My legs felt weaker than they did earlier. But I didn’t care. I had to get to The Moon Kingdom, I just had to!  

Someone must have alerted the guard where we were going, because tons of guards were following us as we ran down the road. When they began shooting, I picked up Solita and took a turn into the forest. 

I ran and ran and didn’t look up until I got to the place I had told Lunar to come by. 

I saw Lunar waiting by a tree. Jeez, it had been so long since I’d seen Lunar. He looked hotter than I remembered. Was that a beard at the bottom of his face? 

I ran into him and gave him a big hug. He returned my squeeze, but pulled back to look at tiny Solita, who was slipping out of one of my arms. 

“Who’s this/that?” the both of them said, and I smiled looking at the two. A perfect picture. 

“This, Solita, is your Papa.” 

Lunar gasped and picked up the tiny girl, he spun her around until she giggled. 

Then Lunar set her down and walked back to me, kissing my lips.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked. 

“I hadn’t known until a few days after we last saw each other.” I explained. “She has your powers. She has to stay with you.”

“No. These last few years have been hell without you. To be left alone with our daughter is out of the question. Either I go back with you or you’re coming with us.” 

“Lunar, you know- 

****POW.***

The guards shot Lunar. 

I was in shock. A terrible, terrible shock. I yelled. And I began to cry. As the guards began to shoot at us, I grabbed Solita, and threw my arms around her. 

“Mama, go to the pond!” said Solita. 

I trusted her, so I quickly ran over to the pond. She grew a lily pad and the pink flower that grew on top surrounded us. 

I smiled. “Solita! You beautiful genius!” 

I grabbed Lunar and quickly pulled him into the flower bud, which closed up after he was in it. I could hear the bullets bumping against the flower. But my strong daughter’s flower wouldn’t penetrate so easily. Gosh, she was powerful. I, on the other hand, felt incredibly weak. 

I stared at Lunar again, and tears formed in my eyes. “Oh Lunar.” 

“Just pat his head to make him feel better,” Said Solita. “That’s what you do to me.” 

I shook my head. “Sunians can’t do that to Moonians, dear gift.” 

Still, Solita went up to her father And patted his forehead. His eyes opened. 

“Lunar!” I yelled, and hugged him. 

“Stea.”

He hugged me and dragged Solita into the hug as well. As we hugged, I began to figure out what had just happened. 

Sunians could not give energy to Moonians, but Solita, who was not quite either, had used the powers she had gotten from me to tend to father. No wonder I had been feeling weaker and weaker as Solita used her powers. Every time I had touched her, she had taken a little more of my energy. I didn’t care. Solita was a very bright girl. 

“You’re my amazing little girl, Solita,” I told her. 

Solita beamed. 

“You both are my amazing girls,” Lunar told us. “But don’t celebrate now. It isn’t over yet.” 

And with that, Lunar began to open the bud with his powers, and I grabbed onto Solita. After all, she’d need some more of my powers for what we were up against. I knew one thing for sure though. 

This family wouldn’t be broken apart.
