Seguimos aventurándonos por los continentes del mundo de Canción de Hielo y Fuego y descubriendo las fascinantes y mortíferas criaturas que en él habitan. En el escrito anterior hablamos de los animales más escamosos de la saga, dragones, lagartos entre otros. Curiosamente son los que más abundan en esta mitología; ahora le toca el turno al resto, insectos, arácnidos y claro que sí a los mamíferos que también hay bastantes y mucho que mencionar.

In the previous writing we talked about the most scaly animals of the saga, dragons, lizards and others. ## Lobos Huargo | Direwolves
</div>

Un majestuoso ejemplar que es no solo símbolo de la casa Stark, una de las más queridas por los fans sino que también es un emblema icónico de la saga.
Los huargos son parientes cercanos de los lobos, sin embargo y como pudimos apreciar muchos en la serie o al leer los libros; estos les doblan en tamaño, y en consecuencia en fuerza y ferocidad. Se creían extintos al menos al sur del Muro, pero al otro lado aún son depredadores temibles.
La diferencia más notable entre un lobo y un huargo además de su gran tamaño es que las patas son ligeramente más grandes en relación a su cuerpo, no solo eso los huargos suelen tener los ojos de un color verde pálido o amarillo, algo bastante singular. The direwolves are close relatives of the wolves, however, and as many of us could appreciate in the series or when reading the books; these are twice their size, and consequently in strength and ferocity. They were thought to be extinct at least south of the Wall, but on the other side they are still fearsome predators.
The most notable difference between a wolf and a direwolf besides their large size is that their legs are slightly larger in relation to their body, not only that direwolves usually have pale green or yellow eyes, something quite unique. They hunt and live in packs like wolves and are incredibly intelligent.

## Cebrallos | Zorse
</div>

Una curiosa raza equina proveniente del sureste del continente de Essos, en la región norte de Yi Ti, específicamente en las Llanuras de los Jogos, muy parecidos a las cebras como su nombre lo indica pero de contextura mucho más robusta y de una altura ligeramente mayor, son más temerarios que otros equinos como los caballos, feroces y muy temperamentales.
Sirven de montura para los Jogos Nhai un pueblo nómada que habita en dichas llanuras. Daenerys quedó impresionada cuando los vio en su estadía en Essos. Algunos miembros de la Compañía Audaz como Vargo Hoat el comandante de la misma montaban estos peculiares animales, algo que resulta muy llamativo tras su llegada a Westeros auspiciada por Tywin Lannister.

## Gorila gigante de Leng | Giant Leng Gorilla

La isla de Leng ubicada al sur de Essos es una singular isla con una gran cantidad de especies, pero la que yo creo es la más destacable es el gorila gigante de Leng; puede llegar a medir entre tres y cuatro metros de alto. No han sido muy vistos ni tampoco estudiados, pero sí que son objeto de leyenda y cuentos de terror en Essos y otros continentes.

The island of Leng located south of Essos is a unique island with a large number of species, but the one that I think is the most remarkable is the giant gorilla of Leng; it can reach between three and four meters high. ## Hrakkar
</div>

Se trata de un enorme león que habita en las sabanas y praderas del Mar Dothraki, la única particularidad destacable de este animal es que el pelaje común es blanco. Podemos suponer que en todo lo demás es muy parecido al león africano que todos conocemos.
Los Dothraki los cazan e intentan mantenerlos a raya pues son depredadores y en muchas ocasiones se comen a los caballos de los mismos dothraki, su piel es de uso común entre las tribus.

It is a huge lion that inhabits the savannahs and grasslands of the Dothraki Sea, the only remarkable particularity of this animal is that the common coat is white. We can assume that in all other respects it is very similar to the African lion we all know.
The Dothraki hunt them and try to keep them at bay as they are predators and often eat the horses of the Dothraki themselves, their fur is commonly used among the tribes.

## Mamut | Mammoth
</div>

Al igual que los huargos, se creian extintos. Son el único paquidermo que habita en Westeros, su hogar está al otro lado del Muro, al norte del continente, tienen enormes colmillos y su tamaño es mayor al de los elefantes, otra característica destacable es por supuesto su abundante pelaje, los gigantes del norte los usan como monturas. No se sabe con certeza si hay mamuts en estado salvaje o los que quedan están domesticados por los gigantes.

## Kraken
</div>

Uno de los grandes terrores de los marineros y símbolo de la casa Greyjoy. Este monstruo aterrorizó por mucho tiempo a los marinos que se aventuraban en las aguas del Mar de los Escalofríos.
Estos animales son hasta ahora mitos y leyendas pero últimamente mientras los acontecimientos de las novelas se desarrollan nos llegan pequeñas noticias que apuntan a su existencia, se dicen que han sido vistos en las costas de Dorne, incluso que en las Islas del Basilisco han llegado a hundir navíos.
Incluso en las mismas costas de poniente en donde supuestamente un enorme Kraken fue avistado cerca de la región de Los Dedos.

## Uros | Aurochs
</div>

Es un pariente salvaje del toro, algo así como un búfalo, pero mucho más grande, su característica más destacable es su enorme cornamenta, son nativos de Westeros. Con el paso del tiempo los uros fueron formando parte del animal de ganado de los humanos, en las tribus salvajes es usado como animal de carga; su carne está muy valorada como alimento.
Son un símbolo de fuerza y resistencia, aunque se les considera bestias fuertes se cree que son muy torpes. Balerion era tan grande que en su boca podía caber uno de estos animales sin mucho esfuerzo.

Es un pequeño pero peligroso insecto autóctono de las Islas Mar de Jade y la Islas de la Manticora; se nos describe como un animal con cuerpo de escarabajo y un enorme aguijón como el de un escorpión, su veneno es letal y muy apreciado por los maestros y alquimistas.
Existen variedades entre negro perlado y verde dorado, otra característica muy curiosa es que tienen una forma de cabeza humana en su cráneo un tanto siniestra.
Oberyn Martell uso veneno de manticora para impregnar la lanza con la que lucharía contra Gregor Clegane.

Sin duda alguna de los grandes misterios del bestiario de Canción de Hielo y Fuego. No tenemos certeza alguna de que en realidad existan, forman parte importante de la mitología de Westeros. Se cree que estas son las siniestras monturas de los Caminantes Blancos, mejor conocidos en las novelas como Los Otros.
No se sabe realmente nada de su existencia más que relatos he historias de terror.

## Unicornios | Unicorns

En la mitología de Canción de Hielo y Fuego los unicornios no tienen mucho que ver con os caballos; son más parecidos a las cabras aunque mucho más grandes y corpulentas, de abundante pelaje lanudo y paso firme capaces de trepar empinadas colinas y laderas montañosas, poseen un único cuerno en la parte central del cráneo.
Son criaturas muy enigmáticas y se les considera extintas; aunque hay quienes afirman que todavía viven en la isla de Skagos donde los nativos incluso los usan como monturas.
Skagos es uno de los grande misterios del mundo de Canción de Hielo y Fuego, ojala muy pronto podamos conocerlo mucho mejor en los libros que seguirán de la saga.

## Gatosombras | Catshades
</div>

Habita en las zonas montañosas más allá del Muro en los Colmillos Helados, También se pueden encontrar en los Valles de Arryn, son enormes y feroces felinos muy parecidos a un tigre pero mucho más grandes.
Su característica más destacable es su curioso pelaje de color negro brillante con rayas blancas, tienen una vista y olfato increíblemente agudo y son depredadores solitarios, sigilosos y letales. Afortunadamente evitan a los seres humanos y no son vistos con mucha frecuencia debida a su naturaleza tan esquiva.

They inhabit the mountainous areas beyond the Wall in the Frozen Fangs, they can also be found in the Arryn Valleys, they are huge and ferocious felines very similar to a tiger but much larger.
