</liketuimages>

Little more than a week ago our home was flooded. It was a situation of frozen ground + heavy rains, which meant there was no drainage and the stream went over the top, flooding even the roads

In the moment it was quite frustrating and we just wanted to move out, leaving behind the dream of living in this forest. But we managed to get our shit together and begin digging trenches (as much as we could with the hard frozen ground), while also taking water out with a bucket where we could until we managed to emerge victorious from this challenge.

No matter what you do, life will always have it's challenges and though giving up is an option, fighting the fight is usually rewarding.

The weather seems to be changing and the sun's rays are beginning to offer some warmth so hopefully we'll soon be able to begin our garden.

Thanks to everyone who offered kind words during our little crisis and to everyone who support us on our journey. Have a beautiful weekend 🌺

It is difficult for me to tell where the water is coming from... but if you can use some logs, rocks and mud to build up some berms (a few meters beyond the trenches on the uphill sides where the water is coming from) you may be able to divert the water (if it is on the surface of the ground) before it reaches either the trenches or the cabin.

Basically you would be building what are called 'water-breaks' to shed the water elsewhere. Ideally you want to position the berms in such a way that they are at a thirteen degree angle to best shed the water from the areas that you do not want it getting into.

That's great advice, thanks. We'll try getting some defences like you mention up before next winter, it seems the worst already happened for now.

I must confess I've lost track of your journey. I realise for some reason I'm not following you which kinda horrifies me. I went looking for @fenngen and realised you were both here and I'd forgotton.

Looks bloody cold, muddy, and miserable. Hopefully things dry out soon. Off to read the posts I've missed.
