January ProgBlog #1: mediocre starts

I was intending on trying to get back into the swing of things in the first week of January (including my blogging schedule) with the intention of seeing what in the work schedule that I'd done up (and been vaguely reworking on the fly) needed changing up.

I didn't end up doing the progblog and the work schedule really does need changing up. 

Though most of what I suffer from is the complete inability to keep to anything resembling time, and the fact that I have to be interruptable because JJ is the one with the full time job with defined hours.  So what I had was just stuff that needed to get done on what day, and just doing what I could when I could.

It's very messy and scattered because my brain occasionally likes to completely shut down on something so I tend to procrastinate by doing other things I need to do.  Then feel bad about not doing as much on the thing I set out to do originally even if something else that needed to get done got more done.

I don't know if it's not working out because it's not working out or if it's not working out because no matter how much I do, it always feels like it will never be enough.

It really doesn't help that I can't multitask a lot of things because they either require the same part of my brain or the same tools, so the best I can do is a lot of very clumsy not quite parallel processing.

Okay it's not parallel at all, I work a lot on things I can get into a zone for and kind of peck at things that either need to get done or I feel like I should probably be doing but work rate on those things is abysmal.

This stupid tattoo is a prime example.

I had a moment where I forgot that blue was meant to be three layers as well and had to start over (which was mildly triggering because I have developed a pathological hatred of redoing work) but it's moving again.

It also adores running me out of ram.  It may or may not have something to do with my image maps.

There was also a reminder to remember to zoom out for frequently than I have been as I accidentally made the captain have really stocky legs and had to pare down quite a bit.

There's still a number of things I need to fix with the overall shape and also have to do the fingers and toes.

Finally instead of doing the thing I was supposed to be working on today, I worked on the Redcap group pic.

Even years later, it still amuses me how much of a difference even a little bit of shading makes.

I need to rework my schedule x_x

You are always commenting to the effect that I shouldn't beat myself up about not achieving my goals but you are exactly the same. I think both of us just need to admit that sometimes life just gets in the way and we should just try and enjoy the journey. The end goal is there, but it is not why, I think, we do what we do. It is the process that creates the excitement and did you ever worry about what you will do when all your goals are achieved?
However, To me, it seems like you are making great progress.

Well, you generally only have some idea of what the sand, ice and weather are going to be like when you get airdropped to your workplaces, so you have to do the best with what you have at the time.

My excuse is I've been working on the AER project for literally 20 years and a fair chunk of that was redoing work for various reasons (the scripts needed massive overhauls because the rush job I originally did trying to get it done for a uni project was full of gaping plot chasms that I didn't notice with the time pressure, and the models kept getting redone because my skill levels would increase massively and it was easier to burn it to the ground and rebuild than try to fix some of the monumental errors) x_x

I'll be enjoying the journey again (even knowing that I'm never going to be able to finish the project itself) when I stop having to keep redoing stuff I've already done XD

I have so many stories I actually want there to be a cure for aging just so I have a prayer of getting them all out before something kills me, so while I can hit smaller goals, if the overarching goal is "get all the stories out" well the chances of hitting it are slim to none and even less if I just aim for average life expectancy assuming everything remains intact on the way :)

I'm glad it looks to someone like it's moving, whenever I'm comparing the current progblog to the last one, sometimes it doesn't feel like I've moved at all x_x

This all sounds like a labour of love and I can understand to want to give it your best.
luckily for me with sand being ephemeral I am constrained to a time. If not I would probably keep on tweaking till it was just right.
I hope you kept all of your previous materials. That stuff will be great to see sometime.

Being distracted is my forte.  Getting off track sure is another type of procrastination and while I may not write a post my mind is still full of words and ideas for a piece of writing yet to eventuate. 
If I try to force myself to write it does not turn out well.  So waiting and collecting my thoughts is the only way to go. 😊

Well @ryivhnn the great thing about january is that clean slate to start over, I love thinking 'I get another go at a year to improve on things I wish I could'

I think we all feel these rushed and hurried bits of trying to 'get it all done' and chasing our tail. One thing I sort of tried out a few years ago was giving myself a break by saying I'll make up a time limit of say one hour for each day and designate it 'work' time and know that as long as I do the 'work' in that hour (planned the day before, something about writing it down on paper feels good) then when you reach that hour you say, "I did it" then anything extra is bonus work and good on you...then the trick is to stretch out that 'time block" haha. That's my 2 cents worth of unasked for opinion haha, not saying it would work for you, but it did for me. 

I also gave a 'time block' to leisure and I keep it every day. each morning the routine of (in cold weather) the fire (laid night before) hot tea and a good ole real life book for one hour. It gives you that drive to 'get up and out of bed' cuz you're like YES it's my ME time first thing...( i get up early to make it happen to but I am a morning person.)

It must be exciting to work on your project so long tho, as it must be a work of love and passion for sure and that's no bad thing to have in one's life :)

I attempted that first thing for a few years, did not work out very well x_x

There was more success with just using blocks of time (basically I just do as much as I can get done in that time) and sibling dearest is helping me do some rescheduling.

The art stuff is my me-time, I don't usually get to have it in solid blocks though which is why I tend to work late...though I am a night person so that works out XD

It generally is which is why I keep doing it.  Other times I'm just mad because I want to be a hell of a lot further along than I am.
