<div class=text-justify> --------- *Hi everyone!* *You are probably familiar with this fortress. I’ve done a few posts related to this fort, but you’ve never seen the fort look like it from a height. If you were a superman, or maybe got wings, when you took off and looked down at the fort, it would look like this. You would see an irregular triangle, and two cities, a small and a big city.* *This is a model of the fortress as it once looked. There was an explosion, so a lot of things were destroyed, a lot of towers were destroyed, not only the towers were destroyed, the most important thing is human lives, everyone who was inside this fortress when the ammunition exploded unfortunately passed away.* *There is nothing new I could say that I have not said in previous posts. I'll be a little lazy, so I'll put a similar text :D*   <center>City of the Cursed Jerina</center> - Smederevo Fortress is one of the largest medieval plain fortresses in Europe and the last great work of Serbian architecture from this period. History is still alive in this place - the tomb of a noblewoman with medieval jewelry was excavated in 2012. Due to this, as well as due to the fact that the works are still ongoing, this is a place that all lovers of archeology and history must visit. And once you're here… who knows… you might even find the legendary treasure of the damned Jerina!   Smederevo Fortress consists of Big and Small Towns. The small town is actually the remains of a former castle where the despot's family and nobility lived. The big city was built a little later and the population took refuge in it during the Turkish conquests. Smederevo Fortress on the Danube There are many legends and legends about the construction of this fortress, which you can still hear from locals and local guides. One of them says that despot Djuradj Brankovic had a dream in which he was told that the new city must be located on the river and that after that he ordered the construction of a fortress at the mouth of the river Jezava into the great Danube.   During the construction of the city, the stone was brought from Viminacium, from Kosmaj and from the Ram fortress on the Danube. Due to the high speed with which the Smederevo fortress was built, many builders died of exhaustion while working on the building. The main culprit, the people declared the despot Jerina - the wife of the despot Djurdj, who still has the name "cursed".   This is probably how the legend about the treasure that she buried somewhere on the territory of the fortress, before the invaders penetrated the fortress, came about, so that they would never find it. And as nothing like this has ever been found in this area, if you crave adventure and dream of becoming Indiana Jones, the Smederevo Fortress will give you the opportunity to try to make your dream come true. The excavations in the fortress are still going on, so if you visit this place, you will really have the impression that history is happening literally in front of you! The works on excavating the foundations of the still very mysterious church within the fortress, for which it is not known for sure when it was first built, found the grave of a hitherto unknown noblewoman and jewelry of inestimable value in it. Vases, ceramic objects and medieval weapons no longer count, and all this can be seen in the nearby Smederevo Museum.   Smederevo Fortress-Smederevo-DanubeEven though you are not a fan of history, the Smederevo Fortress has something to offer you. Numerous manifestations and parties are held here during the summer, which turn the mysticism and ancient elegance of the fortress into unforgettable events. During the summer, the most famous theatrical event is "Fortress Theater". For those who visit Serbia in September, there is "Smederevo Autumn" - the oldest holiday of grapes and wine in the country, when the fortress comes to life again and regains its old glory. Due to the constant threat from the Turks, the Small Town was built in just two years and was completed in 1430. Even today, the words "Despot Djuradj, a believer in Christ God, Mr. Srbljem and the sea of Zeta" are engraved on the red brick on the "Krstaci" tower. By his order, this city was built in the year 6938 (1430) ”.  Smederevo Fortress has a triangular shape and 25 high towers by which it is still recognizable today. She resisted the invaders for a long time. When it finally fell under Turkish rule in 1459, it was the end of the medieval Serbian state. Smederevo Fortress was extremely well preserved until the middle of the 20th century. Then, during World War II, a large explosion of ammunition took place there, which damaged the fortress and destroyed a huge part of Smederevo. In 1946, the fortress was placed under state protection, and its conservation is still ongoing.
