_It was funny, some of these people could draw magnificent work, but when they tried to use their imagination and get outside of their comfort zone, all technique disappeared.  They couldn't integrate it and so they made these childlike drawings... cute_

Once in a while we'd have friends over our studio.  Actually, it was always open for people to visit when we were there, we just did a poor job of advertising it, so maybe two or three times a week a friend would stop by for tea or beer or a chat, or even to paint or jam, and then about twice a month we had an event or party

This particular party was the most memorable.  A friend (actually the friend who made the cover for Conessions of the Damaged 1.2) organized a class that helped people paint from their imagination, since many people had been trained classically in art and don't really know how to color outside the lines or break the rules.  She wanted to help people find their own creativity with these classes, and for one class we agreed to collaborate.  

First we played music for the students to draw to.  The idea was to paint the feeling of the music, and it was mostly a jam though in between I played two of my songs.  After someone finished painting we'd invite them to jam with us.  If they were already comfortable, they'd pick up some small easy percussion instruments and join in and if not I'd give them an easy beat and build something on top of that. 

Most of these people had never "jammed" before despite being involved in the arts, they never had a chance to really freestyle so it was really fun watching them get out of their shell.

I wish we could have done this 100 times.  I would have loved if it was a regular thing but all the tenants of the building were evicted one year after we moved in.  We were warned that this COULD happen in the contract but we didn't think it would happen so soon.  We thought we could get 3 years out of the place but in the end we got less than half that.  It was a blessing anyway, one of the best years of my life :-D
