<div class=text-justify>I have always been passionate about old photographs, but since I did a workshop about embroidery in photographs, I started looking at them with even more interest.
The following photos are of my maternal grandmother, Nair Fagundes, with whom I unfortunately had little contact, since she passed away when I was still very young.</div>


><div class=text-justify>Sempre fui apaixonada por fotografias antigas, mas desde que fiz uma oficina sobre bordado em fotografias, passei a olhar para elas com ainda mais interesse. 
As fotos a seguir são da minha avó materna, Nair Fagundes, com quem infelizmente tive  menos contato do que gostaria, já que ela faleceu quando eu ainda era bem pequena. </div>

<div class=text-justify>I have few memories of her, but I remember an enlarged copy of this portrait, which was on a piece of furniture in her room. I, with the innocence of a child who saw her grandmother so old, could not imagine her like this: young and, who knows, even younger than the age I am today. I remember asking "who was that woman in the picture" and being shocked by the answer "it's me".</div>

><div class=text-justify>Tenho poucas lembranças sobre ela, mas me lembro que uma cópia ampliada deste retrato ficava sobre um móvel em seu quarto. Eu, na inocência de uma criança que via a avó quase que todos os dias tão velhinha, não conseguia imaginá-la assim: jovem e, quem sabe, ainda mais jovem do que a idade que eu tenho hoje. Me lembro de perguntar quem era "aquela mulher da foto" e ficar chocada com a resposta "Oras, sou eu". </div>

<div class=text-justify>Only those who fell in love with photography before the age of selfies understand the magic of seeing an old portrait and imagining the story behind it.I inherited a family album full of old photos. There you can see that all my family members put on their best clothes for the photos and that these portraits in professional studios were only made on very special occasions, such as weddings, birthday parties and other social events. </div>

><div class=text-justify>Só quem se apaixonou pela fotografia bem antes da era das selfies entende a mágica de ver um retrato antigo e imaginar a história por trás dele. Eu herdei um álbum de família cheio de fotos antigas e ali é possível ver que todos os meus antepassados colocavam a sua melhor roupa para as fotos e também que esses retratos em estúdios profissionais só eram feitos em ocasiões muito especiais, como casamentos, festas de aniversário e outros eventos sociais. </div>

<div class=text-justify>Going back to the embroidery story, I decided to look at this album of photographic relics and choose some to make small interventions. And I say small, because as you can see in the images, I am not a professional embroiderer. The intention is only to reframe old memories. 

I chose this portrait of my grandmother because it had an identical copy. So, in case I messed up, I wouldn't lose the picture completely. Embroidering a symbol of affection on your photo made me feel connected to my own ancestry. In this piece, I feel that our energies are in one place.

><div class=text-justify>Voltando a história dos bordados, resolvi olhar esse já mencionado álbum de relíquias fotográficas e escolher algumas para fazer pequenas intervenções. E quando digo pequenas, são pequenas mesmo, porque como vocês podem ver nas imagens, não sou nenhuma bordadeira profissional. A intenção é somente ressignificar memórias antigas. 
Escolhi esse retrato da minha avó porque tinha uma cópia idêntica. Assim, caso eu estragasse, não perderia a foto por completo. Bordar em uma foto um símbolo que representa o afeto me fez sentir em conexão com a minha própria ancestralidade. Nesta peça, sinto que nossas energias estão em um só lugar. </div>
