It can be a house, a door, the bars of a window... old buildings have many interesting details. However, sometimes there is no way not to look carefully because we come across imposing constructions like the one I am going to show you here. >*Pasear por un casco histórico siempre me agudiza los sentidos, sobre todo la mirada, muchas cosas pueden pasar desapercibidas si no estamos atentos a nuestro alrededor. Puede ser una casa, una puerta, las rejas de una ventana... las edificaciones viejas poseen muchos detalles interesantes. Ahora bien, en ocasiones no hay forma de no mirar con atención porque nos topamos con construcciones imponentes como la que vengo a mostrar aquí.* <center></center> <center><sub>What's that in the background, a castle? / ¿Qué es eso que se ve al fondo? ¿Un castillo?</sub></center> <hr> There are many private houses and striking public buildings in the historic center of La Victoria, Aragua state (Venezuela), and if you are willing to walk the whole area you will find a building that anyone would say is a castle. It is located a few blocks from the Ribas Square, the most famous in this city. >*Hay muchas casas particulares y edificaciones públicas llamativas en el casco histórico de La Victoria, estado Aragua (Venezuela), y si te dispones a caminarlo completo te encontrarás con una edificación que cualquiera diría que es un castillo. Queda a unas cuadras de la Plaza Ribas, la más conocida de esta ciudad.* <center></center> But it's not a castle, it is the **"General Mariano Montilla" Barracks**. Before reaching it, in front of it, there is a square with leafy trees that give it a lot of serenity, the Montilla Square. >*Pero no es un castillo, es el **Cuartel "General Mariano Montilla"**. Antes de llegar a él, en todo su frente, hay una plaza con frondosos árboles que le aportan mucha serenidad, la Plaza Montilla.* <center></center> The design is the work of architect Luis Mantelini and although its construction began in 1906, for various political and social reasons, it was completed many years later, its formal inauguration was in 1937. That day I couldn't enter to see the inside of the barracks but I talked to one of the guards and he told me that they do guided tours, so I will come back.
