The Rest I hated , the rhythm I needed: My siesta stories

Many times, we don't understand neither do we appreciate most of the things that was done for us while growing up as children because most times, we don't know the reason why we are even meant to do the things we are told to do neither do we realize our parents wanted the best for us.

There were many things I never loved doing as a kid ranging from when my mum would always force me to bring chair closer to her and be adding Maggi, salt and pepper to the food she was cooking, indirectly teaching me how to cook but the playful me will always complain and would love to be allowed to go out and play but today, thanks to those punishments, I can cook anything I want to eat.


That asides, what I hated the most growing up that my parents always do was forcing me to take siesta, it always came with the three - word command, *Go and Sleep.*

Wherever we were, once it was 2:30pm, it was expected that we come back and take our siesta from 2:30pm to 3:30pm and sometimes 4:00pm, it was so serious that my parents will make us even when you're not feeling sleepy and I will keep watching the ceiling till I fall asleep.

Who wouldn't dislike that? I mean , that was the time I should have been playing with my peers or watching cartoons deprived from me for sleep I'll still sleep to my satisfaction at night.

Little did I know that my parents weren't just trying to instill the act of taking siesta in me but on the grand scale were actually trying to teach me that ***there is time for everything under the sky and also the need of being disciplined in all you do.***
 
They were just preparing me for the journey ahead , the siesta routine wasn't just about siesta, it was a structured training.

They were training me to know that it's never laziness to have worked so hard for hours and decide to rest a while before continuing because there's harmony in rhythm.

By consistently showing up for my siesta when against my will, when I was in school and there were times I felt like not going for classes or not leaving my bed, I still found a way to go because of the training I got as a kid.
Siesta time wasn't optional, it wasn't a question of if I was feeling sleepy, **it was a rule.** This rule helped me as an adult to understand that life isn't all about doing what you feel is good because sometimes the good things in life don't feel good as at the moment you're doing them.

In summary, no parents hates their child. Everything they do is always for our own good one way or another, but it's just that sometimes, we fail to understand the reason because of our restless eyes as children... there is truly time for everything under the sky.

Siesta is a good thing, I wonder why you hated it 😁😁.  I never had such times growing up. If  my face wasn't glued to a book or chemistry textbook, then I was at the shop selling market.

Yeahhh, I'm grateful to her indeed especially now that I'm in a state I don't enjoy their foods so well, I get the luxury of cooking my own meals which would have been impossible if I didn't learn 

Heheh, the chemistry gurus, that was my worst in the whole science courses though 😂

Momma did an excellent job with that. Though she didn't really bother with me, mine was just to enjoy all delicacies coming out of the kitchen 😂
You seem confident on your cooking skills. I will gladly love to be the judge of that.

All parents do want the best for their children and nothing less. But to us all, it feels like the opposite but luckily we always get to reminisce and value all the teachings.
