Breakaway communities (BACs) are an innovative concept that originated from the SPK Network, aiming to provide a seamless way for individuals and groups to create their own tokenized community social frontend platforms on the Hive blockchain. This technology essentially creates many sovereign online communities that run their own infrastructure and have their own economies. Soon, they will have their own token economies and governance systems, making them Digital Network States.  

#### What are Breakaway Communities?

Breakaway communities, forked from the latest Ecency technology, offer a streamlined solution to quickly establish a personalized community frontend with a unique domain and customizable user interface. Utilizing open-source frontends like Ecency and Dbuzz (and it is hoped many other designs will integrate the technology), SPK Network developers have created a system that allows users to spin up their own frontends efficiently.

#### Key Features and Functionalities

1. **Customization and Setup:**

    - **Easy Deployment:** By following the instructions on the breakaway.community website, setting up a BAC requires minimal coding experience. Tutorials and example videos are available to assist users through the process.
   **Additional features**, such as colour scheme selection, trending feed customisation, and functionality, will be added over time.
   - **UI Customization:** Users can have their own domain URL and design their frontend according to their preferences.
  
  
2. **Integration with Other Web3 Communities:**
   - **Cross-Platform Compatibility:** Breakaway communities facilitate the integration of other web3 communities into Hive, allowing them to have their own sites and reward systems where only their own community members can post to the site.
   - **NFT and Bitcoin Integration:** An example of this is that users with Bitcoin ordinals will be able to create their own communities and log in using their NFTs and Bitcoin Wallets and exclusively post to their own dedicated community platform.

3. **Types of Breakaway Communities:**
    - **Community-specific:** Focused on a particular Hive community.
    - **Author-specific:** Dedicated to content from a specific author or authors (under development, to follow).
    - **Tag-specific:** Centered around specific tags or topics (under development, to follow).

4. **Point System and Tokens:**
   - **Earning Points:** Community members can earn points through various actions such as logging in, commenting, posting, reblogging, and upvoting content.
   - **Tokenization:** The tokens will be general Proof of Brain (Incentivised stakeholder distribution) tokens; however, a portion of the inflation will go to social activity on the platforms as well as to community stake-weighted upvotes. Each week, your points will be tallied and compared with those of other users. A portion of the inflation from the community's token is distributed to users in the network based on this tally. Therefore, the users with the highest social activity on the BAC from that week will receive a larger proportion of the inflation than users with less social activity. 

5. **Advantages of Free, Open Source**

   - **Community-Funded Open Source Model:** Breakaway communities operate as an open-source frontend, supported and funded by the community. This collaborative model ensures continuous development and innovation driven by the collective efforts of its users.

   - **Seamless Integration with Ecency Updates:** Breakaway communities benefit from the latest updates to the Ecency platform, a tokenized, open-source web3 platform funded by the Hive DAO. This means that any improvements or new features introduced to Ecency are automatically available to breakaway communities, ensuring they remain up-to-date with the latest technological advancements.

#### How to Create a Breakaway Community

To set up a breakaway community, you need:

- A Hive Community ID
- A domain
- A server

By running the instruction code provided on the https://breakaway.community/ website, you can quickly deploy your community frontend. The process is straightforward and does not require extensive coding knowledge.

hive needs to get deep into the darkbnet, ulkraine war, get into like assasinations drugs guns, fosscad, we need to use hive for serious shit, for revolutions, establishing paralel governments, in Burma, africa, start there, take over a country, start doing some crazy shit with hive, use it to host websites that get censored, make it a weapon.

Key difference, among many others... this is free and completely open source and anyone can set one up with a little bit of online admin effort

If a community doesn't have an economy, voting system, a platform upon which to do it, parallel things aren't possible.  Start here, keep building. No one is paying us for this. Any OS contributions welcome.    Stay away from the sketchy shit in your comment above, everything going to be fine.  Keep on building.  

Sometimes distribution of the same non KYC stable coin on both sides of a boarder is all that is needed to make the point...

Interesting. going to dig into this more about the whole point system and rewards and see how that all plays out to understand it better. A solid video focused community however could make it big! Are there customized options easily to do on this such as the ability to run ads, launch their own token (is it layer 2 and what exchange can it be traded on)

These options are exactly what we hope to add going forwards, but we dont have that many resources avaible to prioritise them.  any OS contributions to such are much welcomed.

We are about to complete a 3Speak update and with this it will be pretty easy to spin up your own video tube.  we actually have a BTC dedicated tube that will be set up over the coming months.

Ecency also has videos, so a tube is already possible, but with a few small tweaks you can prevent any other type of content being uploaded and shown other than vidoes

Finally a refresh. I was looking forward for projects of this kind. Unfortunately denser isn't ready yet, and the old-way based on condenser is far from being viable these days.
Are you going to make it also a way to run personal blog only? (i.e. per user, not per community?) Or is it out of scope and you are focusing on tokenized communities?

Yes, as far as i know, you can already set it to only show one blogger, multiple bloggers, one tag or multiple tags, and mixed onchain and offchain content in the feeds.  If we are not there already, we are very very close to it.  Would be great to work together on improving these functionalities. its definitely headed where you think it is

Love to see this finally coming to fruition. IT's something that hive has needed for years if it is done right. 

Every community could become a feeder into the hive blockchain and bring in new users and money to the system.

Hopefully it is easy enough for anybody to create their own community front end.

Please have the option to turn on ads in the communities so that we can start bringing money into the eco-system and give real value to the new tokens. Without this they will just fade and die as the tokens by themselves serve no purpose other than a method to distribute revenue build status within the community.

We think this is one of the ways hive scales.  you can identify an existing online community and drop value to them, giving them a social platform almost for free.  potential is there.  lets see if we can do it as a community!

Ads is interesting.  it all needs work.  need OS contributions.  
we also thought that top stakers could get special privileges, like mining community issued NFTs, access to speak in DMs with certain users, or ability to influence inflation.  ad model is also considered but not built yet.  you are right, these community tokens need sinks, not just distribution, else they go to zero.

also, we want to build it so that you must stake both hive and the community token to post to the community platform and thereby earn points for interacting on the platform and thereby earn inflation

All dumb jokes aside, I see potential here.  See a few issues as well but I'll wait until they happen before I can feel comfortable talking about it.  I learned a lot from the Tribes approach.  Hopefully others did as well.  On the surface and from a distance, it kinda looks the same.  So in theory that would give people a head start.  First one that knows what a consumer is, wins.

The tools are fine.  It's how the tools will be used.  Potentially ~~thousands~~ millions will pick up the hammer.  Everyone has a different style of swing.  

Leo started out as a tribe.  Tokenized community.  Doing well enough but they had an advantage.  They actually know a few things about crypto, money, finance.  A smart team able to twist knobs and push the right buttons.  Able to attract "investors".

The content creator with the large following is offering a product to their consumers.  They can't be distracted, shift gears, and suddenly become a crypto bro.  Their fans and following won't care about that.  They came to read the news or comment about the stream last night.  So, in a tokenized community like that, the "consumers" are the "investors."  

What did Tribes do?  Setup a site, akin to an online magazine of sorts.  Paid contributors.  Tokens slowly lost value.  Why?  Never once "sold" that "magazine" to readers or "consumers".  Buying the token is how one would *buy* that magazine.  That was the missing element.  

Now, why would a consumer want to buy that "magazine"?  Well, if someone stakes tokens, they can support the content they enjoy, for free with votes, and earn to do so.  There's no better deal in entertainment than that.  Rather than placing all their money into something like Patreon in order to support the content creator, that supporter is now placing the money directly into *their own* wallet.

Hive is a tokenized community offering several products people have no problem paying for elsewhere.  We don't sell this "magazine" to "consumers," we sell it to "curators."  How many *actual* curators do you know, in life?  

How is the content creator supposed to make money, without money coming in the door to support it?  They will build their site, apply all the same mistakes everyone has made since steemit, and watch their token value plummet.  I would love to prevent that.  Show me one tokenized community that sold their tokens to people interested in supporting it.  You can't.  They all said, "Come here, post, and get paid."  

The culture here is like, *"OMG that content creator is selling tokens!  Let's cut them off!  Hurry before it's too late!"*

<sup>*Okay. I'm exaggerating, yes.*</sup>



In life, people love supporting and paying for the things they enjoy and *want* to see that content creator making money.

Following me so far?  Will "investors" be interested in those tokens?  It's possible, but I wouldn't invest unless I saw a mass of consumers dumping their money into supporting a product.  Much like the real world.  Or I might risk a bit early if I knew that brand would be an attraction.

I also see a comment here about including ads.  Ads don't attract consumers.  Ads are pretty much useless without consumers around.  Not a bad idea but they're only a small part of the puzzle.

Don't forget the roads.  I realize these are "breakaway" communities but they all have a better chance of thriving if the consumer base is shared.  They come to watch someone eat burgers and talk about burgers all day.  Some of those same people would be interested in that other guy drinking beer all day, but they might never know about them if they don't have access.

Would consumers want to buy a million different tokens to support a million different things?  I struggle a little bit with that concept.  One token like Hive gives them the same abilities without all the hassle.  So I think it would be wise to keep that in there somehow.  Probably a story for another day.

Also, bit of a side note.  Must also be prepared to see an HP exodus as seen with tribes.  A lot of local funds will go directly into those tokenized communities.  That leads to situations where Hive community can't support witnesses, DHF and so on.  While those people participate in tokenized communities, they're not acquiring HP either.  There's no good reason I can think of why large communities aren't able to have a larger say.  See it happening though. Not much power behind large groups it seems.

From what I see, the domain is something you should already have in your control, and that's good. Otherwise, it would be really hard to maintain such a project. The system should be good at handling Hive tasks; adding support for domains would increase complexity and introduce extra security concerns.

For those interested in trying it, I can help with the domain and server setup. The best part is that anyone with very basic admin skills (even if they aren't related to Hive) would be able to assist in setting this up.
