Liebe Leser, 
hier das Wichtigste über Hive für alle Neuankömmlinge! Für alte Hasen wird hier vermutlich nichts Neues dabeisein, aber gerade die Basics kommen oft zu kurz, finde ich (oder sind nicht leicht zu finden, oder enthalten veraltete Links, etc.).

##### Was ist Hive?

Hive ist eine Kryptowährung, ähnlich wie Bitcoin, die auf einer [Blockchain](https://www.ahd.de/was-ist-eine-blockchain-die-erklaerung-fuer-einsteiger/) basiert. Hive wurde 2016 von Dan Larimer erfunden, damals hiess es noch Steem (es hat sich komplett von Steem abgespalten und hat jetzt NICHTS mehr damit zu tun). Das Besondere an Hive ist, dass man direkt, auch längere Texte auf die Hive-Blockchain schreiben kann, die dadurch (nahezu) zensurfrei und in Echtzeit (mit 3s lag) veröffentlicht werden. Das heisst, jeder kann auf Hive etwas posten und der Inhalt kann so gut wie gar nicht von anderen (oder von einer Zentrale) blockiert werden, wie das so häufig auf Facebook oder X passiert. Dabei sind die Inhalte von Hive dezentral an vielen Orten gleichzeitig gespeichert (von den sogenannten "Witness") und somit gesichert und nicht im Besitz einer Organisation wie Meta. Das nennt man auch Web3 . Die Inhalte der Hive-Chain kann man sich über verschiedene Nutzerinterfaces, auch *frontends* genannt, ansehen, z.B. [Peakd](https://peakd.com/) oder [Ecency](https://ecency.com/) (letzteres hat auch eine gute Version fürs Handy). Über diese Seiten kann man auch selbst schreiben und die Beiträge von anderen kommentieren. ##### Reputation und Voting

Was auch speziell an Hive ist, dass es ein Reputations- und Votingsystem gibt, das ermöglicht, **durch das Bloggen selbst Hive zu verdienen**, ohne je etwas investieren zu müssen. Jetzt wird es ein bißchen kompliziert. Wenn Dir ein Beitrag von jemandem gefällt, kannst Du ihn "liken" bzw. upvoten (i.e. ein Upvote geben), was bewirkt, dass dieser Beitrag eine bestimmte Menge an Hive erhält, die nach 7 Tagen ausbezahlt werden bzw. verfügbar sind. Man kann aber nicht beliebig viele Upvotes verteilen, sondern die "Voting Power" wird immer kleiner (aber regeneriert sich nach 5 Tagen wieder auf 100%). Und umgekehrt, wenn Du einen Post schreibst, bekommst Du mehr oder weniger (hoffentlich mehr 😃) Upvotes von anderen (wieviel, wird meist rechts unten beim Post angezeigt). Nachdem Du sie in der "Wallet" (ein bestimmter Bereich auf den Frontends mit finanziellen Informationen zu Deinem Account) "geclaimt" hast, werden sie auf Dein Hive-Konto übertragen. Je mehr Upvotes, desto besser auch für deinen "Reputation Score" (Rep). Der startet bei 25 und kann auf über 80 raufgehen. Es gibt auch Downvotes (auch "flags" genannt), die führen dazu, dass die Reputation sinkt (je nach Höhe der Downvotes) und die Rewards für einen Post (bis auf 0) zurückgehen. Man sollte generell sehr sparsam mit Downvotes umgehen und sie nur bei Spam oder Plagiaten verwenden, aber z.B. nicht, wenn man die in einem Post vertretene Meinung nicht teilt.
Jedenfalls werden nach 7 Tagen diese Autorenrewards (*author rewards*), abzüglich eventueller Downvotes ausbezahlt, aber nicht als (flüssige) Hive, sondern je zur Hälfte als HP und als HBD. Moment, was ist HP, und was HBD??

##### Hive, HP und HBD

HP steht für Hive Power und es sind nichts anderes als Hive, die "staked" sind, dh. gebunden. Bei Hive sind es 13 Wochen Bindefrist. So lange dauert es, bis man gestakede Hive, also HP, in flüssige Hive zurückverwandelt (wobei jede Woche ein Dreizehntel "verflüssigt" wird).
Aber man muss sie nicht gleich von HP in Hive verwandeln, ganz im Gegenteil - es hat mehrere Vorteile, mehr HP anzusammeln:
1) Für das blosse Halten von HP (also fürs Staken von Hive) erhält man eine Verzinsung von derzeit 2,8% im Jahr.
2) Je mehr HP Du hast, desto höher ist der Wert Deines eigenen Upvotes, desto mehr kannst Du also andere für guten Content belohnen.
3) Der Clou daran: Für das Upvoten von Posts (über einen Mindestwert ("dust treshold") von ca. 0,02 Hive) erhälts Du ebenfalls Hive (als HP) und somit sind diese *curation rewards* umso größer, desto mehr HP Du angesammelt hast. Es ist nämlich so, dass nach den 7 Tagen nur die Hälfte der author rewards an den Autor selbst geht und die andere Hälfte an alle, die den Post geupvotet haben. Das mag seltsam erscheinen, aber es soll ja auch ein Anreiz sein, HP zu akkumulieren und Votes zu vergeben. 
Wenn man flüssige Hive in HP verwandelt, um die curation rewards zu verbessern, nennt man das "aufpowern" (*powerup*), den umgekehrten Vorgang entsprechend *powerdown*. Das kann man jederzeit machen, man kann auch begonnene Powerdowns abbrechen.
Diese curation rewards sind übrigens nicht zu vernachlässigen, sie machen ca. 7-8% der eingesetzten HP aus - jährlich. Zusammen mit der 3%-Verzinsung sind es daher ca. 11% Rendite/Jahr, die Hive in seiner aufgepowerten Form abwirft.

Und dann gibt es noch Hive Dollar (HBD), das sind Hive im Wert von genau 1 US$ und werden auf Deiner Wallet auch angezeigt. Da Hive derzeit bei ca. 32c gehandelt wird, entspricht also 1 HBD ca. 3 Hive. HBD ist praktisch als Währung für Zahlungen im Hive-Ökosystem, da man damit besser rechnen kann und nicht erst nachschauen muss, wieviel Hive gerade wert ist. Daher wird HBD auch zu den "Stable Coins" gerechnet. HBD ist seit Jahren erfolgreich an den Dollar gekoppelt, und es gibt [hier](https://hivehub.dev/market/swap) einen internen Markt, mit dem man bequem und gebührenfrei Hive in HBD umtauschen kann und umgekehrt.

Einen weiteren Vorteil hat HBD. Man kann sie in "savings" transferieren, dadurch werden sie für 3 Tage gebunden (d.h. es dauert 3 Tage, bis HBD aus den Savings wieder frei verfügbar sind). Wozu? Weil, solange HBD in *savings* sind, diese derzeit eine Jahresrendite von 15% generieren, die alle 30 Tage ausgezahlt wird. D.h. Du  erhälts alle 30 Tage Zinsen, die Du entweder abheben (*withdraw*) kannst oder auf Deinem HBD-Savingskonto belässt, sodaß sich nach einem Jahr die HBD in den Savings aufgrund des Zinseszins-Effekts um mehr als 16% erhöht hat.

Puh, das Ganze wirkt ziemlich finanzlastig, ist Hive nicht ein "soziales Medium" und sieht eines seiner frontends, https://inleo.io/threads/foryou, nicht wie ein X-Klon aus? "Ich will doch nur ein bißchen posten und liken und will gar nichts investieren!"
Ja, Hive gehört mit seiner Blogging-Funktion zu den social media, aber es ist weit mehr, es gibt auch Spiele auf Hive wie z.B. [Splinterlands](https://next.splinterlands.com/), direkte Anbindungen an andere Kryptowährungen wie das [Bitcoin Lightning Network](https://v4v.app/) und nicht zuletzt hat man damit seine eigene Bank in der Hosentasche! Das ist der Grund, dass es etwas komplexer ist als andere social media, wo der Enduser nur das Produkt ist und keine Kontrollmöglichkeiten hat (und die Rechte an seinen eigenen Daten sowieso nicht). **Zusammenfassung:**
**Hive**: ein frei transferierbare und (z.B. auf Kryptobörsen wie [Binance](https://www.binance.com/en)) handelbare Währung, den aktuellen Wert kann man z.B. [hier](https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/hive) nachschauen.
**Hivepower (HP)**: gebundene Hive (13 Wochen) für mehr curation rewards, wird automatisch mit knapp 3%/Jahr verzinst
**Voting Power**: Maß für den Wert des eigenen Upvotes, schrumpft bei Verwendung, und regeneriert sich nach 5 Tagen wieder auf 100%
**HBD**: so viele Hive, wie 1US-Dollar wert sind (derzeit ca. 3 Hive). Kann >15% Zinsen/Jahr generieren.

Jetzt magst Du Dich vielleicht fragen, woher diese Renditen denn kommen? Es ist so, dass pro Jahr derzeit (der Wert wird jedes Jahr kleiner) ca. 6% neue Hive geschöpft werden (Details dazu z.B. [hier](https://peakd.com/hive-133987/@dalz/hive-inflation-for-2023-or-slightly-below-the-projected-one)) und nach einem bestimmten Schlüssel aufgeteilt werden auf: Autorenrewards, Kuratorenrewards, Witness-Rewards und die oben erwähnte knapp 3% Rendite auf HP. Im Vergleich mit anderen (Krypto-)Projekten ist das nicht viel, oft sind 10% und mehr an Ausschüttungen für die Gründer vorgesehen. Von üppigen Marketingbudgets ganz abgesehen. Und Fiat-Währungen haben *de facto* auch eine höhere Inflation!
Die 15% HBD-Rendite wird über Umwege ebenfalls aus dieser Inflation generiert. Bis jetzt hat das ganz gut funktioniert und Hive hat auch einen heftigen "Bärenmarkt" schon überstanden. Die 15% wird es aber nicht ewig geben, soviel ist klar (bis vor kurzem waren es sogar 20%).

##### Wie kann man Hive kaufen und verkaufen?
Wie erwähnt über eine Kryptobörse wie z.B. [Binance](https://www.binance.com/en) oder, falls man schon Bitcoin hat, über Tauschplattformen wie [StealthEx](https://stealthex.io/?to=hive) oder https://v4v.app/.
Verkaufen bzw. in andere Kryptos umtauschen kann man sie auf die gleiche Weise, nur umgekehrt.

Die Voraussetzung für das Besitzen und Sammeln von Hive ist, einen Account auf Hive zu haben. Dazu gibt es mehrere Methoden, eine davon ist [InLeo](https://peakd.com/@leoglossary/leoglossary-how-to-create-a-hive-account), eine andere geht über [Ecency](https://ecency.com/signup). Der Accountname kann **nicht mehr geändert werden**, also gut überlegen, welchen man wählt. Der Username ist auch gleichzeitig die Wallet-Addresse, d.h. man muss sich nicht endlos lange Zahlen- und Buchstabenkombinationen merken (bzw. c&p-en), um Hive an andere User zu versenden.

Zu beachten ist, dass Hive eine öffentliche Blockchain ist, d.h. **jede Transaktion** ist komplett öffentlich und jeder kann die Transaktionsgeschichte eines jeden Accounts einsehen, z.B. mit Tools wie https://hiveblockexplorer.com/ oder https://hivestats.io/.
Wenn ich Dir also erzähle, dass ich bereits über 95K Hive an curation rewards verdient habe, ist das keine bloße Behauptung (wie bei so vielen dubiosen Investment- und Abzock-Seiten), sondern kann leicht nachgeprüft werden. Eine weitere Sache, die Hive so besonders macht!

##### Resource Credits
Die Transaktionen auf Hive (also z.B. Posten, Kommentieren, Upvoten, Versenden von Coins) sind an sich kostenlos, es gibt also keine Netzwerkgebühren wie bei Bitcoin oder Ethereum, aber sie sind nicht völlig umsonst, denn man braucht dafür Resource Credits (RC), die verbrauchen sich wie die Voting Power und regenerieren sich innerhalb von 5 Tagen wieder auf 100%. Startet man als neuer User komplett bei 0, wird man nur wenige Transaktionen pro Tag durchführen können, aber je mehr Hive man staked (also zu HP aufpowert), desto mehr RC stehen zur Verfügung. 20 HP (ca. 6€) sollten schon reichen, um aktiv zu sein. Man kann auch von bestehenden Hivianern HP (oder RC) delegiert bekommen, auch vorübergehend, bis man selbst genug hat.

##### Schlüssel
Die **Sicherheit** des Accounts ist ein wichtiges Thema, schliesslich ist der Account wie gesagt gleichzeitig eine eigenen Bank, auf der die Hive sicher verwahrt werden wollen! Im Fall von verlorengegangenen oder im Internet geleakten privaten Schlüsseln kann Dir niemand helfen, das ist der große Unterschied zu einer herkömmlichen Bank!
Hive hat einige besondere Sicherheitsfeatures, die aber anfangs etwas kompliziert zu behirnen sind.
Bei der Generierung eines neuen Accounts werden etwa gleich 4 Schlüsselpaare erzeugt. Jeweils ein privater und ein öffentlicher. Die privaten sollten NIE im Internet gespeichert werden. Wer die hat, kann Dein Hive-Konto ausräumen!
Erstens gibt es den **posting key**. Den braucht man, um auf Hive posten und upvoten zu können.
Nur wenn man den (privaten) **active key** hat, kann man heiklere Transaktionen wie Powerups, Powerdown und Versenden von Hive oder HBD durchführen.
Dann gibt es den **owner key**. Mit dem kann man die anderen Schlüssel abändern. Den sollte man am besten nie verwenden und sehr gut aufbewahren.
Mit dem **memo key** kann man verschlüsselt übertragene PMs entschlüssln (z.B. memos, die Transaktionen begleiten).

<sub>Zusätzlich gibt es in peakd noch das **Backup (Master) Password**, mit dem kann man ebenfalls alle anderen Schlüssel ändern, aber dieser Schlüssel ist ein Derivat des Owner Keys, seine Funktion wird z.B. [hier](https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@edicted/security) genauer erklärt.</sub>

Man kann sogar einen gehackten Account wiederherstellen (*account recovery* genannt), von daher ist es gut, dass durch die 13 Wochen Bindefrist bei HP eine Art Zeitschloß eingerichet wurde, das verhindert, dass ein gehackter Account sofort leergeräumt wird (wie es bei Metamask und anderen Wallets zu oft passiert)!

##### Keychain

[Keychain](https://hive-keychain.com/) ist eine Browserextension (gibt es für Chrome, Brave und Firefox, und als Handyapp auch), die für einen die Schlüssel sicher aufbewahrt. Man gibt die Schlüssel (posting oder besser posting plus active) bei Anlegen (oder Hinzufügen) eines Accounts einmalig ein und danach muss man eine geplante Transaktion nurmehr via Keychain bestätigen (wenn die App Keychain unterstützt, aber das tun mittlerweile die meisten wichtigen Apps auf Hive). Das erleichtert die Aktivitäten enorm und ich kann die Installation von Keychain nur jedem empfehlen.

##### What is Hive?
Hive is a cryptocurrency, similar to Bitcoin, which is based on a blockchain. Hive was invented by Dan Larimer back in 2016, when it was still called Steem (it has completely split off from Steem and now has NOTHING to do with it). The special thing about Hive is that you can write texts directly on the Hive blockchain, which are then published in real-time (within 3 seconds) and (almost) censorship-free. This means that anyone can post something on Hive and the content can hardly be blocked by others (or by a central authority), as is so often the case on Facebook or X. The content on Hive is stored decentralized in many places at the same time (by the so-called "witnesses") and is therefore secure and not owned by an organization like Meta. This is also known as Web3 . The content of the Hive chain can be viewed via various user interfaces, also known as frontends, e.g. [Peakd](https://peakd.com/) or [Ecency](https://ecency.com/) (the latter also has a good version for cell phones). You can also use these sites to write your own posts and comment on other people's posts. [This](https://peakd.com/@leoglossary/leoglossary-what-is-hive) post, for example, goes into more detail about how the whole thing works technically.

##### Reputation and Voting
What's also special about Hive is that there is a reputation and voting system that allows you to **earn Hive** just by blogging, without ever having to invest anything. Now it gets a bit complicated. If you like someone's post, you can "like" or upvote it, which causes that post to receive a certain amount of Hive, which is paid out and available after 7 days. However, you cannot distribute as many upvotes as you like, but the "voting power" will decrease the more you upvote (but will regenerate to 100% after 5 days). And vice versa, when you write a post, you get more or less (hopefully more 😃) upvotes from others (how many is usually displayed at the bottom right of the post). After you have claimed them in the "wallet" (a specific area on the frontends with financial information about your account), they are transferred to your Hive account. The more upvotes, the better for your "reputation score" (rep). It starts at 25 and can go up to over 80. There are also downvotes (also called "flags"), which cause the reputation to drop (depending on the amount of downvotes) and the rewards for a post to drop (even to 0). You should generally use downvotes very sparingly and only use them for spam or plagiarism, but not, for example, if you disagree with the content or expressed opinion in a post.
In any case, after 7 days these author rewards (minus any downvotes) are ready to be claimed, but not as a (liquid) Hive, but half as HP and half as HBD. Wait, what is HP and what is HBD??

##### Hive, HP and HBD

HP stands for Hive Power and they are nothing other than Hive that are "staked", i.e. bound. With Hive there is a 13 week binding period. This is how long it takes to convert staked Hive, i.e. HP, back into liquid Hive (whereby one thirteenth is "liquefied" every week).
But you don't have to convert them from HP back to Hive straight away, quite the opposite - there are several advantages to accumulating more HP:
1) For simply holding HP (i.e. for staking Hive) you get an interest rate of currently app. 2.8% per year.
2) The more HP you have, the higher the value of your own upvote, so the more you can reward others for good content.
3) The highlight: For upvoting posts (or comments) above a certain "dust" treshold (currently app. 0,02 Hive) you also receive Hive (as HP) and therefore these *curation rewards* are all the greater, the more HP you have accumulated. By the way, after the 7 days only half of the author rewards go to the author himself and the other half to everyone who upvoted that post. This may seem strange, but it is supposed to be an incentive to accumulate HP and award votes. 

If you convert liquid Hive into HP to improve your curation rewards, this is called "powering up", the reverse process is called "powerdown". You can do this at any time, and you can also cancel powerdowns that have already begun.
Incidentally, these curation rewards are not negligible, they account for approx. 7-8% of the HP invested - annually. Together with the 3% interest rate, Hive in its powered-up form therefore yields around 11%/a.

And then there are Hive Dollars (HBD), which are Hive worth exactly 1$ and are also displayed on your wallet. Since Hive is currently trading at around 32c, 1 HBD corresponds to around 3 Hive. HBD is practical as a currency for payments in the Hive ecosystem, as it is easier to calculate and you don't have to check how much Hive is currently worth. This is why HBD is counted as a "stable coin". HBD has been successfully pegged to the dollar for years, and there is an internal market [here](https://hivehub.dev/market/swap) that allows you to exchange Hive for HBD and vice versa conveniently and free of charge.

HBD has another advantage. You can transfer them to "savings", which binds them for 3 days (i.e. it takes 3 days for HBD to become freely available again). Why? Because as long as HBD are in savings, they currently generate an annual return of 15%, which is paid out every 30 days. This means you can claim your interest monthly and either withdraw or leave it in your HBD savings account, so that after one year you will have accumulated >16% interest due to the compound effect.

Phew, the whole thing seems pretty finance-heavy, isn't Hive a "social medium" and doesn't one of its frontends, https://inleo.io/threads/foryou, look like an X-clone? "I just want to post and upvote a bit and don't want to invest anything!"
Yes, Hive is in part a social media with its blogging function, but it is much more, there are also games on Hive like [Splinterlands](https://next.splinterlands.com/), direct connections to other cryptocurrencies such as the [Bitcoin Lightning Network](https://v4v.app/) and last but not least, you have your own bank in your pocket! That's why it's a bit more complex than other social media, where the end user is just the product and has no control (and no rights to their own data anyway). **Summary:**
**Hive**: a freely transferable and tradable (e.g. on crypto exchanges such as [Binance](https://www.binance.com/en)) currency, the current value can be checked e.g. [here](https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/hive)
**Hivepower (HP)**: staked hive (13 weeks bind period) for more curation rewards, automatically earns interest at just under 3%/year
**Voting Power**: Measure of the value of your own upvote, shrinks when used, and regenerates to 100% after 5 days
**HBD**: as many Hives as 1 USD is worth (currently approx. 3 Hive). Can generate >15% interest.

Now you may be wondering where these returns come from? The fact is that around 6% of new Hive are currently created each year (the value is decreasing every year), details on this can be found [here](https://peakd.com/hive-133987/@dalz/hive-inflation-for-2023-or-slightly-below-the-projected-one). They are divided up for author rewards, curator rewards, witness rewards and the almost 3% return on HP mentioned above. Compared to other (crypto) projects, this yearly inflation is not a lot; often 10% and more are paid out to the founders. Not to mention lavish marketing budgets. Also the main Fiat currencies have *de facto* a higher inflation than 6%/a!
The 15% HBD return is also generated indirectly from this inflation. So far, this has worked quite well and Hive has survived a heavy bear market already. But the 15% (until recently it was even 20%) will not last forever, that much is clear.

##### How can you buy and sell Hive?
As mentioned, via a crypto exchange such as Binance or, if you already have Bitcoin, via exchange platforms such as [StealthEx](https://stealthex.io/?to=hive) or https://v4v.app/.
Hive can be sold or exchanged for other cryptos in the same way, only in reverse.

The prerequisite for owning and collecting Hive is to have an account on Hive. There are several methods of doing this, one of which is [InLeo](https://peakd.com/@leoglossary/leoglossary-how-to-create-a-hive-account), another is via  [Ecency](https://ecency.com/signup). A good overview is provided by https://signup.hive.io/
The account name can not be changed ever, so think carefully about which one you choose. The username is also the wallet address, i.e. you don't have to memorize (or c&p) endless combinations of letters and numbers to send Hive to other users.

It should be noted that Hive is a public blockchain, i.e. every transaction is completely public and anyone can view the transaction history of any account, e.g. with tools such as https://hiveblockexplorer.com/ or https://hivestats.io/.
So if I tell you that I have earned >95K Hive on curation rewards alone, is this not a mere claim (like so many shady investment sites do), but can be easily looked up. Another thing that makes Hive special!

##### Resource Credits

The transactions on Hive (e.g. posting, commenting, upvoting, sending coins) are in themselves free of charge, so there are no network fees as with Bitcoin or Ethereum, but they are not completely free, because you need Resource Credits (RC), which are used up like the voting power and regenerate to 100% within 5 days. If you start as a new user at 0, you will only be able to carry out a few transactions per day, but the more Hive you staked (i.e. the more HP you have), the more RC will be available. 20 HP (approx. 6€) should be enough to be active. You can also get HP (or RC) delegated from existing Hivians, even temporarily, until you have enough yourself.

##### Keys
The **security** of the Hive accounts is an important issue, after all, the account is also your own bank where the Hive needs to be kept safe! If your private keys are lost or leaked on the internet, nobody can help you - that's the big difference to a conventional bank!
Hive has some special security features, but they are a little complicated to master at first. It starts with the fact that 4 key pairs are generated when a new account is created. One private and one public each. The private ones should NEVER be stored on the internet. Whoever has them can empty your Hive account!
Firstly, there is the **posting key**. You need it to be able to post, comment and upvote on Hive.
Only if you have the (private) **active key** can you carry out more delicate transactions such as powerups, powerdowns and transferring Hive or HBD.
Then there is the **owner key**. This can be used to change the other keys. It is best never to use it and to keep it in a safe place.
The **memo key** can be used to decrypt encrypted PMs (memos accompanying a transactions).

You can even recover a hacked account (via a process called *account recovery*), so it's a good thing that HP has set up a kind of time lock with the 13-week binding period, which prevents a hacked account from being emptied immediately, like so often happens with Metamask and other wallets!

##### Keychain

[Keychain](https://hive-keychain.com/) is a browser extension (available for Chrome, Brave and Firefox, and also as a mobile app) that stores the keys securely for you. You enter the keys (posting or better posting plus active) once when creating (or adding) an account and then you only have to confirm a planned transaction via Keychain (if the app supports Keychain, but most of the important apps on Hive do that now). This simplifies the activities enormously and I can only recommend the installation of Keychain to everyone.
