The work neve ends and you have done miracles already which was never in doubt. I am in catch 22 territory as we need solar, but adding solar when you are going to be leaving doesn't make much sense to be honest. The house needs plenty of work and will do some but not like you have. The bathrooms and kitchen need ripping out and replacing plus a touch of paint here and there should do the trick for now to obtain the maximum price available. Bit like lipstick on a pig as there is so much more one could do but will save those funds for the next property wherever in the world that might be.

Smallsteps might enjoy astronomy. Department store refractor telescopes are usually garbage but small Dobbsonian scopes (Celestron FirstScope and similar) are quite affordable. But naked eye at first, just to be sure she’d be interested. Even cheap binoculars to look at the moon might get her hooked.

Imagine if you will the amount of work we have to do on our late 1890s house most of which hasn’t been done because money is constantly a problem with one income and three teenagers who like doing more than sitting in front of screens forever 😅

I do have to put my foot down about and probably help with some things  in the garden though, it’s mostly J’s thing as he  knows where all the fruit trees and vege patches need to go but I don’t wannaaaaaaaa.

Honestly... The french drain idea got me thinking... I live on a farm.. Or farmy area.. We have one... It works quite well however if one can integrate that to sort of drain the water from the yard, well that can work quite nicely?

Reading your journey with your renovations has made me realize how expensive it is to actually have a functional home. I look forward to this kinda agony though. I mean anything other than paying for cloned apartments.

Owning a property especially a landed one is one thing , maintaining it to stand the test of time is definitely a different ball game entirely .

 *A dream house is only possible in dreams* - where is the lie in this ? I find it hard to see any.  It is not bad to have
 dreams anyway , I feel it forms the foundation of the goals and plans we tend to achieve for ourselves.

*Even though it would be great to have one of those high-end gardens full of all the flowers that bloom throughout the three seasons they can, I would also like to make it easy to maintain* - over the years I've learnt to realize it is always preferable and adviceeable to always not bite what one can chew . In as much as you want a high end garden filled with blossoming flowers you still want to work with what you can easily and effortlessly maintain. Maintainance has always been key and important to the sustainability of any project !

In a couple of years I will read about your garden and sun roof. I'm sure everything will be cheaper by then. Only your upvote will become 10 times more expensive.

I think any extra light might cause high electric bills as Europe have been taking some savings measures. You know some people in my country don't open lights after it gets dark and manage it with the light of TV screen.

Until you get the lights sorted, it might be worth looking into something portable if it's that dark?

That ladder... I'm sure a safer option could be put in, especially with Smallsteps (though I suspect she's probably better at climbing than the average adult)
