Looking out across Q4
<div class="text-justify">

While I am not complaining directly, I still consider this to be a pretty damn shitty year out of the many shitty years in my lifetime. But what is kind of surprising to me is that despite it all, I at least feel that I have held it together pretty well. Not fantastically brilliantly, but considering what has been happening at regular intervals and the heavy affects that it has on my immediate and future life, as well as that of my family's, *pretty well.*

*Resilience* seems to be a trait earned through exposure to adversity and these days, it seems that not many have learned, despite potentially facing adverse conditions. As I have said like a broken record for years now, the problem with incentivizing the drama and polarization on the internet, is that it rewards victimhood mentalities, which leads to people becoming less resilient, less nuanced, less talented in general - far more easily manipulated though.

One of the wittiest posts on Hive in recent memory is this one written by @meesterboom about ["How to succeed on Hive"](https://hive.blog/life/@meesterboom/level-up-on-hive-in-5-steps), which highlights a small group of users who do precisely as he has mentioned, and then they complain about "getting bullied" on Hive. Normally, I say "don't be a dick" and things will be okay, but there is a choice "C-word" that describes these kinds of people.

I wonder how some of them make it through their lives if they are so fragile, but I suspect it is their delusions that protect themselves, their egos that position themselves as heroes, saviors and martyrs - the life of the narcissist. Perhaps they are the ones who have faced adversity and failed to overcome it and instead, become scarred, bitter and demented by their own shortcomings to make the mark they so desperately needed to make, in order to prove to their ego that *their lives matter.*

It is funny, because while they are complaining about the SJWs, it is they who are creating the hashtag movements on Twitter for the Twisted. It is they who are spreading the memes to try and manipulate the masses with their faceless forms.

It is interesting perhaps to note, that many of these people are never going to show their faces, because despite all of their bravado, they are scared of being discovered. This isn't because of their fear of governments, it is their fear of being discovered as the pathetic forms they are, the shape of reality that doesn't match with their delusions of grandeur. They are sad and small, most likely struggling through life as people who believe themselves to be intelligent, but unable to stabilize themselves, financially, mentally or emotionally. Cognitive dissonance between the story of their ego, and the reality of their experience.

You know, it is funny that some people look at the higher earners here and see them as sellouts for a bit of money, but most who actually earn, don't need Hive to live their lives. The reason is that many of the people here are actually professionals with jobs in the real world, meaning that they don't have to use their earning to cover the rent, but it is more than this. Because they don't have to earn Hive to live, they have no reason to beg for support or complain about not getting support and they can write what they want, how they want, with no need to make anyone happy at all.

They don't have to adapt their content to attract whales, because they are good at what they do, because they are skilled - and as such, they get support because what they create is funny, interesting, quality, insightful, enjoyable, useful and the kind of stuff that people like to engage with, not because it is triggering, but because it is entertaining and connects personally. So much of the drama-laden content is so poorly constructed and so repetitive and tiresome, that no one but the "inner circlejerk" give a crap about it at all. It is immature and boring, yet in their head, it is the most important thing that can be said - hubris.

This year was full of promise, but thus far, it has been degrading in many ways. Perhaps it is years like this where people breakdown, where they try to avoid the pain of reality by burying themselves into entertainment, or surrounding themselves with voices that tell them why they are such failures, and point them at an enemy to blame and attack for their personal misery.

*I am poor, because of rich people. I am lonely, because people are superficial. I am censored, because no one is listening to what I have to say. I am depressed, because it is your job to make me happy.*

They don't talk about their lives with anything of substance, because they have no lives that fulfil them, that bring them joy, that makes a positive difference in the lives of others - so, they take it out on the world that they believe has victimized them, as if everyone else lives a life of ease.

We are moving into the last quarter of the year and I am hoping that it will squeeze out something to salvage the first three quarters, but I don't expect much from it, as experience tells me to be prepared for the worst, not the ideals. However, as always, I am still pretty positive that things can turn around and my family can go into 2022 with promise and a foundation to back it up, so we can put the last years behind and move into a period of thrive, instead of survive.

While I can't control everything in my life, at least I have some ability to control myself.

It is always someone else's fault that lays at their failure, they are never to blame, and they like to stoke the fires of their discontent. It matter not what you say to them, how you try to show them the errors of their ways, so you just say nothing. Hive is not a replacement for youtube drama land, some will never get that, and always try to keep the fires of discontent fueled with their personal wrath.

I used to think it was important to support people who were devoting their time or making a commitment to work on hive, but i wonder is what makes hive such an interesting place and great community is that it's not full of full timers?

What I have noted for years, is generally the people who do well here consistently are old and have experience in various fields. Yes, the devs do okay when they put their effort in because after all, this is about as technical as it gets in many respects. But, for the story tellers and creators - experience matters. So many have very little life experience, but plenty of Google experience.

But, Hive gives people a space to explore and encourages them to do what they normally wouldn't have the possibility in their professions with. This means that they can bring their experience and cross it with the creativity that they haven't been able to use as much in their professions - they can be free to paint on the blank canvas, but have plenty of colors from which to choose.

>but i wonder is what makes hive such an interesting place and great community is that it's not full of full timers?

I think so. The future is about multiple streams of ownership and income, so people shouldn't be looking to live off Hive, they should be looking to own and earn a bit on Hive - but use other skills to earn also. Reliance on one platform is centralizing risk, all eggs in one basket. Bad form.

Hive is a place where all kinds of people can do as they please, not earn as they please.

As I have figured, the best way to earn high is to invest high..

Now, what you invest is up to you. Either you have to invest time, work and efforts.

Or you can invest good money, and start getting returns from day one.

I play a few games on hive and I see this behavior as something common in many new players.

They don't want to invest their money or time, but want to earn a lot. Creating money out of nowehere is not possible.

I just bought cards worth 700$ a couple of days ago in splinterlands. Not much but enough to reach silver 3. Now, if I invest my time, and reinvest my money for a couple of months, I surely can reach silver 1.
Maybe then I can expect to get some returns. Or maybe in a couple of years. But I wouldn't get much after just buying a $10 spellbook.

Similarly, on hive, there is opportunity to make something from day one. But expecting to make good money without having hp or investing time doesn't work.

Playing a couple of games made this thing more clear to me🙂

So much this. As long as your success and happiness is far removed it's tolerable; but when you rub it in their face by being on the same platform, or by having the audacity to treat them like human beings and respond; the whole thing gets too close and the disparity too obvious. They have no choice but to lash out.

>the world might be a happier place

They don't want the world to be a happier place. In Finland, most people think the dart times of Autumn is when there are the most suicides, but supposedly it is in the Spring. People expect to be depressed in the autumn and can blame the dull and shortening days - but they have no excuse in the spring.

These are the people at parties that when everyone is having fun, say something depressing to ruin the mood.

HA! Fyrst, lordy. I wonder what he is up to now? I would not be surprised if he surfaced again in Steem.

I am familiar with those people at parties. In biking times I think they threw them on the fire. They still should :OD

Dang, I'm in the same "it has been absolute shit show year" boat and I feel you what comes to just surviving and getting fresh start on January. Let's just hope for quiet last quarter.

Yep, I see those accounts who are crying over here and seriously, it's so bad idea to try to live off from the income that you get from upvotes. You can either be here because it's fun or because it's side hustle but living off? Not recomendable! Also really bad for mental health

For the end of the year, I am just hoping it will be all bull market, all of the time. If the rest of life sucks, may as well generate some wealth :)

Recently i read the post how to succeed on hive from @meesterboom and today i read yours ,Now i learned how to express harshly and softly while you write a post on hive.
It is a good post i always reccommend newbie to read as they get frustrated when their quality contents could not earned even a dollar upvotes. Hive is growing like galaxy where millions of new author joining each year .hope these post would be top trending even after year .

Great content should always be rewarded. For the most part, it is but not always. Recognition is not necessarily evidence of quality and vice versa. Seeing there are no guarantees, you produce what you are happy with and let the rest be what it is...

There is more to great content on Hive than the post itself - for example, the behavior of the account owner matters too. I can create decent content all day long - but if I act like a dick in other ways that matter to being part of a community, should it be rewarded?

>Seeing there are no guarantees, you produce what you are happy with and let the rest be what it is...

Being authentic will get you further than pandering to an audience.

Many people adjust their behavior to be more favorable. If even my enemy provides a valid point, I give credit where it is due. Being rude on the other hand and attacking people is something else though that I would not reward, regardless of value.

While the possibility is out there, to earn not just enough, but more than what covers your basic needs, with only a few hundred words daily. And this is especially true for the poorer part of the Earth. There will be a crowd of those who will desperately try to succeed on it, despite they don't have anything worthy to share, neither the urge of sharing valuable thoughts, just the desire to gain. This crowd is not thinking, its just going forward, even so if that's a step backward.

I have read the post of @meesterboom. It is very useful for us Hiveians like telling Powering Up and interacting on Discord.

I think there won't be much difference in life in the last quarter, at least for me. What we have done almost for two years is surviving. Two years from our lifes have gone for nothing. I hope a better year for Humankind in 2022.
