<div class="text-justify"> We didn't steal one - though I have heard that is a "rite of passage" in Finland for many families. And since we don't have forest of family close by, we ended up buying our second *real* Christmas tree for our home. There are plenty of places around at the moment selling trees in shopping center parking lots and on the side of the roads, but we were happy with the one we got last year, so we went back to the same place and bought the same kind of tree. Traditionally in Finland they use [spruce,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spruce) but we bought [Noble fir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abies_procera) instead, because they are beautiful in comparison to the young spruce, which look like a wicked witch was half way through making herself a new broom handle.  There were some that were wrapped already, but we wanted to choose our own because it makes it more of an "experience" - but not as great as stealing one from someone else's forest, I am sure. They had a self-serve wrapping station too, so it made it feel even more like I was being manly, as I had to carry the tree all by myself and push it through the tube. I imagine that if I had to cut it also, I would have got blisters and perhaps even some short-lived callouses... >The horror! Luckily, I avoided being maimed and scarred for *days.*  But, half-jokes aside, we have being putting this off due to not having enough time and now, it is pretty much the last moment to get the tree, as we have to "acclimatize" it to the house. >Which I think means to show it where the bathroom is, make up a bed, give a guest towel. Well, not quite. It isn't that cold here as it went above zero again, but we still have to bring it inside a "bit at a time" so it can warm up more slowly. If this isn't done, it will die much faster supposedly and drop its needles quickly. I am starting it in the garage for the night and will move it into a warmer area in the sauna room tomorrow, before bringing it inside. Then, I will bring it inside proper on Friday morning and cut the plastic off to let the branches drop and settle on their own. >Hopefully, most of the spiders will have vacated by then.  On Friday evening, we will decorate, which is quite late for us, because we prefer to have it done much earlier, since we aren't home for Christmas (celebrated on the 24th in Finland) and it is nice to have the "Christmas feel" for a little while. Though, I am definitely not one of those people who start in November, like many I know. >It is nice to have some "cheer" in these dark times. And now, tree in hand, we are *almost prepared* to *start preparing* for Christmas actual, where we will be visiting my wife's sister's family, instead of hosting. We will host every second year, when there are more people involved as we have a little more space than them, after their move from a house to a city apartment.  But the worst thing happened... So now, she isn't going to get anything at all, which ultimately serves her right anyway, but it looks bad on me, as I had already told her that because *I knew she was going to break the agreement,* I had got her something. So now, I have to find something that is worthy of me being prepared, but have no time to go anywhere other than the local shopping center, which has a supermarket in it - and not one of those American ones with everything - it is one with basic food and even more basic clothes. >Best laid plans. I find it funny as they have money and are already at the coast staying in their second homes. I never queue and sometimes the only one in the shop which is bloody brilliant when it is a last minute shop where speed is the priority. Powerlines makes sense and should be allowed in those circumstances. No tree is safe here as the locals cut the for firewood anyway.

I looked at the cover image and when I enlarged the image I knew that they are natural Christmas trees I remembered when in my country they used to get the Canadian ones wrapped in the same way they brought them for the month of December and one could buy a beautiful natural tree with its aroma included, the one I bought is very beautiful Abeto Noble "or Abies Procera is like more plump in its branches right ... I have already looked at the specifications of the beautiful Christmas tree in the link. Authors have certain...authority ;) I might have read other books of theirs. Like the French philosopher who's about crowds, rebellions, psychology, macro trends. Small tokens (but useful ones) of natural materials such as wood, bee's wax, etc. Hive-flavored stuff there. Cool clothes... A tumbling tower of wooden blocks game for my less than 4-year-old niece. It's a thing to stimulate imagination and hand coordination. Useful even 100 years later, I would hope. I am about meaningful and useful stuff in general. Also, my childish colleagues we should play Secret Santa and what I bought for a female colleague was...a blanket, a tea cup. Never trust the centralized electricity grid. but use it while it's there ;) > Is family life treating you well? Staying alive ;) Kidding. It's mostly fine. Here it is not customary to buy trees, in fact even at my house we have a fake one that we carry on over the years eh eh! Considering that you have plenty of trees and that every now and then they have to be cut and regenerated is a really nice tradition; as we have already said, maybe one day my wife and I will move our residence and we will be able to experience beautiful traditions like this one about the tree eh eh! Funny enough, I am reading this post on @ecency That means I am not thrilled by your little word thrills there :) I hope @ecency will bring this feature so that all major frontends support each other. We chose a big ass tree last Christmas which was tough to handle in the living room. Hence, we cordially decided to give ourselves a much smaller bruce tree. That serves the purpose and we are not worried about the space.

Many will actually go into forests (where they are allowed in friends and family places) and find and cut their own. It is quite nice. I do find it a little bit odd that you guys buy Christmas trees... Like it's a real fucking tree ππ.. Im not judging at all... But watching these American movies I know they do the same... As for us here in South Africa... We also buy Christmas trees, but the ones we buy are made of plastic and once Christmas is over you pack them up and store it in the garage for the next year. Funny how things diffee through out the world

We have a plastic one too that we have used in an apartment, but since we have a house now, it is nice to have the aroma of the pine for a few weeks. As a kid in Australia, we would have areal trees too and would go and cut our own from tree farms :D

I agree that real is much nicer, but when in an apartment, it was too much of a hassle for us, so we had plastic. Very different feel without the smell.
