For the last two days, we have been having some problems with our heating system, with it not staying on. Even after a reset, it starts to heat but will heat the water first which takes time, and just as it starts to push through to the house, it stops working again. Currently, it is 13°C (55°F) *inside* our house, with the fireplace on. Outside however, it is a different story.

*Balmy.*

There is someone supposedly coming to fix the heating, but there is a "bit of traffic" ahead of us, which is annoying, as we have been calling for a day already with no answer. The company is meant to have 24/7 support, but it seems that it doesn't cover new year's day, as no one picked up the queue line. 

Yesterday, I wrote how I was planning on changing some behaviors and day one, it failed. I was all set for heading to bed just after 12, but the heating had gone off again, so I had to reset it, wait and see, then it went off again, so I had to repeat. I got to bed after 3am - and at 4am, Smallsteps woke us up because she was cold. Then we were up again at 7 to get her off to her grandparents for the day. Thankfully she is not here though, as we are both working from home and sharing the office room, with the only electric heater we have. It is still cold in here, but warmer than the rest of the house.

So with less than three hours of sleep, I went into a one-to-one with my supervisor to go over the end of year and the start of this one, as we have a global event coming up at the end of January. Not ideal, as I was not prepared well, but it went well enough and I thankfully was pretty prepped for what I need to do in the next couple weeks or so anyway. Still,

I am not exactly dressed for work either - with thermal underwear, woolen socks and a thick jumper over the top to keep me warm. As you can imagine, it is a *sexy* look. My wife is wearing thermals and a koala onesie. She does look good in it though.

There is normally one or maybe two periods where the temperature is so low in this area, and it looks like it is going to stay around the same until early next week. Obviously, the lower the temperature goes, the more electricity is needed to heat, and that is simultaneously met with rising electricity costs, as demand increases. We are capped at about 9c per KWh, but I feel for the people who are on the spot market prices, where today the average is 21.3 cents, and the peak is 59.9 cents - not great. Of course, the gamble is that on average the spot prices will be cheaper, for as soon as it warms up through spring, summer and autumn, the prices will tumble as demand falls.

While there are flashing red lights and my fingers are blue, it is nice to see that there is also a little green poking through on the market for HIVE. Nothing extreme, but still, it warms my future toes. BTC is over 45K for the first time in almost 2 years. That is a long time between drinks! But, 2024 might be a good year for Bitcoin, if some of those ETFs go through so that the big investment firms can go straight in on it. This is what is rallying the markets now, as some kind of announcement on the ETFs are coming very soon.

*That has nothing to do with crypto, that is what the heating repair guy said, and my wife gave a definitive "no" as the reply. He is still at least two hours away. The temperature keeps dropping and as it is, it could be that Smallsteps won't be able to come back here tonight, as even if the heating is repaired, the house might not heat up in time. In which case, my wife and I will be sleeping in the office.*

But, before we can curl up on the carpet like dogs, my lunch break is over and I still have the next half of the day to contend with. At least there aren't too many meetings I have to shiver through with teeth chattering, but I really hope that it isn't this cold tomorrow, as I am running five sessions with very little break between. With my wife being on the phone a lot for her job, one of us is going to be *out in the cold.*

And I know who that would be.
