> Well, I decided to try it.

I am now a *slave* to the data and I am going to be monitored and probed by government and corporation for the rest of my existence on this earth.

Today I bought the Oura Ring in silver, because that is the colour that will blend in the most as it is similar to my wedding ring, and it was the cheapest. I also picked up a membership with the first month "free" - but that will cost 6€ a month for all the data it can give, but it isn't necessary for basics. I will try it for now and see how it goes. I have installed the app, but because I haven't worn it much yet, it doesn't give a lot of information, so I will write about that in the future after I have more data to share. I will be interested to see what my sleeping patterns are like, and how my heartrate fluctuates.

I don't really do unboxings, but I am always interested in the design of the packaging, and the Oura ring was simple and clean, with nothing really fancy about it. What is good about it is that right there inside the box, they decided to make it clear they are a Finnish company. Since I live here, I like that and it is good to see that they have been able to get global traction with their product also, as it rates very well against alternatives.

The batters is meant to last "up to" 8 days, but I am not sure what is going to affect that yet. It wasn't fully charged when I put it on, so next time it is, I will track that as well. But, I have worn it a couple hours now and while I notice it, it isn't uncomfortable, nor heavy. Mine (size 11) weighs around 5 grams only, so it is *barely* there.

Inside the ring there are sensors that protrude ever so slightly, but they can't be felt when wearing the ring at all. The Oura 3 sensors stood out about 1.3mm - these ones are 0.3mm. Supposedly, they are also very accurate for what they do, so I am looking forward to getting some decent measurement on my heart rate, because my watch doesn't do a great job of that at all. 

Setting up the app was easy enough, but there is a lot in there and I am going to have to spend some time digging through and seeing what I can glean from it. Also, there was a "quick guide" in there which was very, very quick, though there was a lot of very fine print that I didn't want to read. It probably said I was now marked for life by one of the global cabals.

> The important thing to know was, I can wear it in the sauna.

Supposedly it is pretty hard-wearing and unless I am going to dive deeper than 100m, I should be fine with it most places I go. It is going to be interesting though, because I want to wear it at the gym, but not sure how it will manage under dumbbell stress. We'll see!

I ordered my wife one also, but because they are obviously sized for fingers, they of course didn't have her size in the country and it won't arrive until mid-March. That is pretty crazy, but still, I guess she isn't in a rush for it. I reckon she will enjoy the stats though, even though she won't admit it straight away. And then, perhaps this will be something we can "do together" because we will be able to be link up our apps and do something with them. Not sure what is shown there yet though.

And since there were a few people interested when I was speaking about this ring the other day, I will add more information when I get some data back from the app and if anyone else gets one, we can discuss and compare!

Here in Canada, we use watches that incorporate green LED sensors to measure your heart rate in real time. The process uses PPG (photoplethysmogram) technology at a frequency of 50 Hz.

PPG technology emits light onto the skin. When it reaches the blood vessels, some of the light is reflected and detected by a photodetector. The intensity of the reflected light represents the amount of blood in the blood vessel by waves.

Depending on the colour of the light used, different vital signs can be obtained through its unique waves. For example, when blood vessels expand, more green light is absorbed than when they contract. This phenomenon allows us to take your pulse accurately.

To measure your pulse accurately, it is important that you remain relatively still so that the real-time HR function can take the full 10-second measurement. If the device detects too much movement, your real-time HR will not be available.

All statistical information is stored and displayed on our mobile phones. The latest models also provide the utility to measure the amount of oxygen (Oximeter) and blood pressure.

Maybe you will need to wear gloves when you are lifting weights to try and keep the damage to the ring at a minimum.  Of course then you will be "that guy" looking like a gym bro wearing gloves.  I think my biggest fear with something like this is that I wouldn't be able to get it off when it is time to charge it.  There are certain times of day or when the weather is a certain way that I'm not able to get my wedding ring off.  Which why would I take it off anyway, but you know what I mean.

I hae fit it slightly larger than my wedding ring, as it has to come off more often, plus I have big knuckles. It doesn't have to be super tight and the testing kit was good to wear a couple sized for several hours each to see which was better. You could wear for a couple days and test.

Yeah, they brought the sub in for the 3 and up I think. I don't mind it too much if it helps and if it doesn't, I will cut the sub and have the basics only. Many of my friends have the 2, as there was a promo test at work a few years ago and lots bought after they tested. I skipped the test unfortunately!

Yes it started at 3. When the 3 came out, they gave everybody who had ring 2 a change to buy the 3 without the sub for a lifetime(As far as I remember), but I had just bought the ring 2 and it was not in my budget to upgrade already sadly :c

I don't might they want a sub, I get it. It makes the company afloat, everything is just a sub as this point though xD

Abd with the oversight, I agree. People think that of they are invisible to other people, they are invisible. They are however using those millions of APIs everywhere they visit online, and with the millions of cameras tracking people offline, abd other people's devices listening in too, it is pretty hard to escape.
