#
Well Hello There Fellow Hivers And Technicians!

What can I say? Working after hours ain't the most enjoyable thing, but you know scoring brownie points with the soon to be father in law isn't the worst way to go now is it?

Wait what??

Well the _Betty's_ dad has some problem with his little _Chevrolet_ pickup truck and well as luck would have it I am in the right business to lend a hand! The only down side is I've got to do it after hours because well work is work and I already have the privilege of using the shop to fix my personal things. I say my personal things but I'm sure most understand what I mean.

So the problem at hand is the clutch, the clutch plate binded with the pressure plate, well sort of not completely. A little bit of everything to be honest, buggered release bearing along with a worn clutch plate and a burnt flywheel and pressure plate.

_The perfect recipe for going nowhere very fast!_

-----------------------------

What I can say is that these small pickup trucks were and still is very popular in my country _(South Africa)_ and I mean why not it's a very practical vehicle to have!

I've never worked on a _Chevrolet_ before but I have done quite a few of the _Nissan NP200_ pickups, but I heard people say that these _Chevrolet's_ are more along the lines of a _Opel Corsa_ so let's see!

![IMG_20230112_163759.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/Eou9DERsFfRgEEswujGTkjvPxHuME7TwmmzdQM99DMDggGwag4TkBUoTcExHpoBUaiZ.jpg)

By first glance it looks very simple to work on. From my personal point of view it looks to be easier than the _Nissan NP200_ and all because you can remove the battery box from the vehicle, thus creating a lot of space for you to work with.

The _Nissan NP200_ on the other hand has a built in battery box and working around it is the biggest irritation I have ever had, truely. I hate those things and hate isn't a strong enough word to use!

![IMG_20230112_163901.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EoGwPCMdPz9YXpweBh7DaRn2xgxTa82riSx4B3tbXrwuyWwsQaebkagyxqwbU6eMA8C.jpg)

Firstly we want to remove most of the stuff above the transmission so that we can get our tools in to be able to loosen the needed bolts! This is almost always the _battery box_ along with some wiring going about and the _airbox_ now since this _airbox_ isn't in the way we will leave it be!

_Less work, more time_

![IMG_20230112_165239.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EoK5Q8UgFqFZ2MAQt8p4gBMQtoWyNUmMXjC3u5LRHZwAhjdjkLJkMuXFPojCvLam4G2.jpg)

Gear link cables, well that's something I haven't seen in very long, well I would be lying, I see them on a daily basis, but it's been a long time since I've done a manual transmission, boy oh boy I have missed these, they sure are a lot easier to remove than a automatic transmission.

I found these gear links a bit odd, they look modified but they aren't they are as stock as stock can be, but what confuses me is that the one pushes into place with clips holding it there and the other is well bolted into place.

_Why oh why?_

![IMG_20230112_171440.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EoiVfA4oum9mQX8F2BBAb14jM4ayjikZAy1n1zCL93PyW3ywtrx66vHREQucCM9iPVU.jpg)

With the gear links removed and carefully pushed out of place one now has better visibility around what the hell is actually going on!

_Yes I can see clearly now, the rain has gone._

_Laughs Laughs!_

So this model doesn't appear to have much in the way up top, that makes the job so much easier!

I had two wiring connectors to remove along with the clutch cable and gear links, it was fast work.

![IMG_20230112_172048.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EpGR9LKNMfK3xcwVh8fWnN7jXPcsw1SktZYAyZ6XFYitNPGAMohPbteTGQyqFqqVvDn.jpg)

Naturally removing the tires is a must, this might sound stupid enough hey, but when I remove the front wheel from the vehicle or any wheel for that matter. I have this tendency to put them underneath the body of the vehicle after I remove them, because if the car happens to slip off the jack stands it does have something to land on that is not entirely just me.

_I feel positively sure I am not the only technician that does this?_

Sometimes I feel that I am a bit too sceptical when it comes to safety, but on the other hand is that ever a bad thing?

![IMG_20230112_172741.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EoiWeaueD3pa9bPCLcZKS8MNJ5L9FDZ5VkFL9TxcAf7p9ZVv9tJGme7ouTyHMX7KWLH.jpg)

Next I have to tear this wheel hub apart, and it at first did defeat me a little bit or wait actually no, it did defeat me, I tore it down like a newbie.

What I did was I went for the _lower ball-joints_ first and upon attempting to remove the ball joint, I saw that this wasn't going to work that well. See the problem is, we have a tool for everything in this shop, but no proper tool, and I mean a tool that really works in the removal of a ball joint. We have two or three "supposed" bought tools that well, they are either to big, too small and differently shaped than what you actually need.

I've seen a few custom made tools people shared on youtube, I've just not yet made myself one, but I think I should stop making excuses and start building myself a tool.

![IMG_20230112_172827.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EpGPhbHSTtxAic3oSqTxe2GqbrRMSG7x531DQrphZDigzq1v8QwTr3t9WsPtqdChxC9.jpg)

Wow, okay I didn't know that I took such a blurry picture, but it's done now. So the ball-joint removal proved to be more complex than I first thought. I ended up loosening the bolts connecting the shock to the actual wheel hub. but doing this I also needed to remove the steering rack joints, so it was only a few more nuts to turn.

_But I got her out!_

![IMG_20230112_175434.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/Ep5mJnW4CZYm6HA8ydecFAtMxe8TZmiNNQTSLZ6tnStozXUHbg99r8Fs8winNr4DGDZ.jpg)

This actually surprised me. The fact that both side shafts didn't have any troubles being removed, except for the loosening of the nuts.

By this point I think that I've passed the halfway mark over here and the work was going a lot better than I thought it would.

![IMG_20230112_175748.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EokeZ4zCiFdbJtEk9W9X7SHzSNTqSW5XgLWLdqoy7pXtSiGBwhyeEsZkMrHpi9Jxhni.jpg)

The designs are a bit weird though, the transmission doesn't have a top mounting, instead this one sits on the front side of the the transmission, almost as if it's holding it up rather than having the weight hang on it. I don't know maybe it makes sense but not for me. I suppose that's the corsa way?

_I'll be honest and say the bolts proved to be a mission, I didn't want to remove the stabilizing bars so I had to endure through it all._

![IMG_20230112_180007.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EoryvqJn9X5toBzUzaXJYtJnKs2xnT9iRpTYkeyvWZg33FS2K2JQrqBpD6EEfKdmfVa.jpg)

After the mountings were removed it was time to head over to the bell-housing and loosen all the final bolts before attempting to remove it.

_Take note that by this point I have already supported the motor from above with chains, and I have placed a transmission jack underneath the motor and transmission. So now it's not a miracle motor._

![IMG_20230112_182319.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EoiWgZtL3fmNVM5RbxnaRQuieXfJZ4cyETrsaTHL8QpVy6FjKVgtF8oztSKAutYcrWf.jpg)

_And Sheeeee is out!_

She's down on the ground, although not without a few hiccups to say the least, I had it completely disconnected and dislodged from the engine, but it seemed like it wasn't going to be that easy to remove this transmission, the easy part was over I suppose.

Now I mentioned earlier that I was too lazy to remove the stabilizer bars. Whelp this caught up with me quickly, I thought that if I was able to pull the back end of the transmission over the stabilizer bar I would be able to drop the bellhousing side and get it out face first. This almost worked, ALMOST! But I ended up unbolting the one side of the stabilizer bar and it was able to swing a little bit and well I was home free then!

_She's dirty though, gotta give her a little scrubbing this weekend!_

![IMG_20230112_190925.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/Ep3eFuybL1rH3xMCQyXm5X6M7XpAD2B2M3L2sYnPEHpFYQReP45p3M8Kp4uRjbd3v7Q.jpg)

The clutch, well that's gone. I was able to remove the clutch disk from the pressure plate but both are badly damaged. This can still drive though don't get that wrong. But this would only cause damage to the overall motors health.

_Besides it's bound for failure and then what? You're sitting next to the road wondering and pondering over your choices in life?_

![IMG_20230112_191842.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EpA34SWeGKtNWW9u1Vwz3ieaYFrcL3Sp7yTctge38C3b6jUgScfnS2SEN9PMM5bo22w.jpg)

This is needless to say, but let's cover it. Since the clutch is a colossal bugger up, it's safe to say that the flywheel is also screwed.

_"Oh, would you look at that!_

![IMG_20230112_191847.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/technicalside/EoGxumCu5ADwudcXhjfkpHinEnXa7FspqAbJjdvHSMAFDcaao4sX2mmhj4uwwJLxpCu.jpg)

_This would be the empty packet after you ate that whole pack of chips, you either want some more or you don't either way you ain't getting nothing._

_The End._

No you don't, I do the same thing, It's not being skeptical, it's being cautious. Btw, that truck needed a lot of love, luckily they have you to do at work.
