Men Can Also Bake: Banana Caramel Pudding

# <center> _Well Hello There Food Lovers Of Hive!_ </center>



_It's Saturday afternoon and I was in the mood to bake something or well I wont be baking today but I surely will be slapping together something nice and delicious! We should do it more often the way we did it today!_

_I literally just jumped up, pulled out the "Knuppelduk Aan Koningskos" book (Which is basically like our cooking Bible!) and well then I gave The Betty a choice between puddings or tarts, naturally she chose a pudding! So today we decided on slapping together a "Banana Caramel Pudding"_


I'm not a big fan of banana on anything and especially not mixed with bacon! But banana and caramel joined together! Well that is a recipe for success! _No pun intended!_

# _There Is Method To The Madness!_

### **_Banana Caramel Pudding._**

**_Ingredients._**

- 1 Pack of Tennis Biscuits.

- Bananas

- Apricot Jam _(Both me and the Betty thought it would be better if we left this out)_

**_Method._**

_Place the Tennis Biscuits, Sliced Bananas and Apricot Jam in layers in a dish and pour the Caramel Sauce between each layer._
_What I did, add a layer of Tennis Biscuits and a layer of Bananas before I poured the first batch of caramel! Rinse and repeat._

### _Caramel Sauce._

**_Ingredients._**

- 1/2 Cup of Sugar.

- 1/2 Teaspoons of Salt.

- 2 Teaspoons of Custard Powder. 

- 1/2 Tablespoons of Butter.

- 1, 1/4 Cup of Milk.

- 1 Teaspoons of Vanilla Essence. (5ml)


**_Method._**

_Melt the Butter and Sugar in a pan. Add Salt. Stir constantly until slightly browned, then add the Milk and stir until the lumps and clumps have dissolved away._

_Mix the Custard Powder with a little Milk, then add and allow it to cook in and through thoroughly. At the very end at the Vanilla Essence, of which I never got a photo! I also have to mention that we made it twice, so all of the substances times how many you want to make. Three portions round out to three times the recipe!_

## _The Easy Part!_


Okay before I drive everyone nuts, this isn't actually a very hard thing to make, what you need most of is patience and a keen sense of focus! The focus you'll need a lot of later on!


Of-course I started with the easiest stuff first! That was placing the tennis biscuits and cutting the bananas!

I started packing the bananas onto the tennis biscuits as well. Then I know as soon as the caramel is done cooking I can simply pour it over! 

See the real reason I got this done so long was because when starting up the caramel sauce (Which by the way is where most of the work is!) You can't really have your focus divided! You have to keep your eye on the caramel sauce at all times! 


_Have to make sure it doesn't burn or boil over but to that we shall get later on!_

_It is worth mentioning that you don't have to go out and get the most expensive tennis biscuits the market has out there! We got one cheap packet and then we decided on paying a buck more for the caramel tennis biscuits since we are making a caramel dessert._

_But really the caramel sauce would be overpowering enough not to even notice the caramel tennis biscuits! It really is your choice._

## _The Attention To Detail Part._



Okay so this is where me and _The Betty_ did some customizing to the recipe, of-course only small tweaks since we don't want to stray too far from the original recipe.


_We now added the sugar and the butter into a pot or a pan, whichever you may prefer, I think a pan works better because the substance can then have a thinner layer and thus turn into caramel faster.


_We added a little bit of water to the sugar and butter before the stove got to heated, just in-case we zoned out and it starts burning, the water would let it sink in slowly, if that makes sense at all._

While I was too busy stirring up the sugar in the pot _The Betty_ started working on the custard mixture that comes in at the very end when it's almost a caramel like substance.
We mixed in the custard with some milk before hand so that it doesn't cause clumps when throwing it in the caramel just like that.

She gave a helping hand since I couldn't get away from the stove, next time we will prepare everything in advance!

## _Stir Until Golden Brown._


So I'm not exactly sure how the colour should look since I've never made my own caramel by my self on the stove using sugar! 

So after a few attempts of not knowing whether it's right or not we decided to _YOLO_ it! And _YOLO_ it we did! Laughs!

_We almost made it boil over!_


I'm sure everyone knows what happens when you pour cold water into boiling oil? It blows up right! Laughs! 

Same thing tends to happen with cold milk and boiling sugar! Luckily we did test it out before we went all in, so as we poured it got rouled up and wanted to start boiling but as we threw in more and more milk it sort of calmed down a bit!

_Nevermind the total mess we made with the caramel sauce! Laughs at-least it will be us doing the cleaning right? So absolutely nobody can even hint at complaining!_

_Oh and for those who are filled with wonders! Yes that sauce is extremely delicious and even more so sweet!_

_Well then all you've left to do is pour it on there!_


That is why I prepared everything out here! Then when the caramel is done cooking you can let it cool down for a little while, keep in mind that sugar can contain heat for long periods of time so if you think twenty minutes is enough push it up to forty. 

We decided that we would be pouring it in while only partially cooling it, the heat might make the flavour pull into the banana and the cookies.

## _The Final Touch Ups!_


After we poured over the first layer of caramel sauce we then started packing the next layer of cookies and banana slices and over that we poured the final bit of caramel.

Now we did make a small mistake, we thought the caramel sauce was going to be too little for the dish, we then made it 4 times what the recipe says and the actual dessert is made 2 times. So we have way too much sauce for this dessert! 

_With that said we just poured it all on there!_

Well honestly it didn't come out as we expected it would, although I do think it has something to do with the overly much caramel sauce! It was twice too many for the dessert. At-least it's not something that can be buggered up and thrown away, a ugly site can still make for a sweet taste right!

_It was certainly a hell of a lot sweeter than we thought it would be! If you try this yourself feel free to share what you changed or added or left out in your version!_

Laughs, atleast we know we can make ourselves some delicious foods. Although the lady with the helping hand, well that really helps!

We bought a traditional cook book, but it has a lot of things that isn't so traditional to us per say but I'm going to scour my way through it and by the end I'll know the best recipe the book has to offer πŸ˜‚
