As much as I am tired from being out since morning, the energy to do this came from nowhere. Maybe it’s because, for the first time in ages, I was actually anticipating the weekend engagement topics. It was one of the first things I checked on Hive when I woke up in the morning. I even had to check @galenkp blog just to confirm. Anyway, it is here at last! 

>Private or public recognition
On the occasions you help others, or do positive things for them, do you like or expect public recognition or do you prefer private thanks or gratitude. Explain why in either case and give an example.

First, I know most of us are familiar with the word "*recognition*" in this context. Basically, it means acknowledging the fact that something was done to you or for you, especially in terms of good tidings – positive things. This is synonymous with appreciation, gratitude, etc. Now, according to the weekend engagement topic how do you (I) prefer it: **public or private or the two?**

Recognition of a good deed, privately (or private recognition) is one in which the topic is between the doer and the receiver (or the *doee* 😁) and maybe a few close people. But it basically does not pass that circle of people. On the other hand, the public one is that in which, for example, your President appreciates the government of another country on national television. Well, most times it is not up to that scale but some prefer you to grovel at their feet and/or forever mention *thy gratefulness*.

I know many people will say private recognition is their preferred one maybe sentimentally or not. This may be largely due to the fact that it is what is preached publicly by society. In some way, I prefer the public recognition at times. Yes, **don’t** be surprised and look at me from the corner of your eye yet!

### Let's Get To It In Detail
You know, in life there are stages or grades of things – positive ones – we do to others. So is the appreciation that should be attached to it. For example, something as little as paying the transport fare of a friend or somebody else is not something that needs to be publicized to everyone. I know it may seem a colossal thing to the other person. In fact, I do not expect to be thanked for that after like at most two days after the occurrence. 

Although, truthfully speaking, where I come from we extol the virtues of appreciation to the *maximum "highest"* such that you have to show it on each of the subsequent days till the universe takes it away from your mind temporarily. I am not saying you should not show appreciation for some good done to us.

Besides, there are just some things that are better left private. We all know that not everybody is on the same page in their respective lives. There are people for who we can go overboard if we have the resources or not. While there are others that we can only burn a little for. In the case of a close friend who needs some money for rent, I can gladly give it all. For another who may only need a small amount of money and probably came earlier than my friend, I may not do something to my own detriment so I could just give out a little. Stay with me, I am trying to prove a point.

In the above scenario, I will most likely tell my friend, no matter how big my deed was, that he should tell no one. You know, because if it gets out, it will definitely portray me in a bad light. Do you get it now?

Lastly, I am a tutor who takes some undergraduate courses and O-levels. Now, if a student of mine who I painstakingly taught even though he/she paid for it and was able to clear their papers. You think I will not want to be appreciated publicly for that, in fact if possible on national TV? **Of course, yes**. And I know we all will love that too. One thing is because it will drive some new people to my tutorial and in turn more money😉.

I believe I have successfully clarified why I said most times earlier on. Although, a scenario like the last example I gave does not happen as frequently as the first two.
