Hello lovelies, I wish you all a wonderful start to the day! 💚
I've been awake for a few hours thinking about the blackcurrant bush that I damaged with the new brush cutter. I couldn't get it out of my head, I feel so much empathy for it that I started thinking about what to do with it. So I researched how I could best help him, and now I'm trying to grow a second bush from this trunk. When I go into the garden today, I'll start straight away.
But for now, let's talk about what has already happened. It was a perfect day for me - except for the mishap with the blackcurrant bush. 😖

I have planted my first beds with vegetables and am more than happy. I've put together various mixed crops so that this year's harvest will be a little more varied, but less mass-produced. As I don't know the soil and don't know what it has accumulated over the years, I'm going to try and test a lot this year.
The cabbage plants were already pre-grown, as were the beetroot and some lettuces. My stock of seeds has also grown again - I couldn't resist buying some vegetable seeds in the sale. I even had to clear out a sewing case for this. 😍

But that wasn't all! I got hold of some super cheap snail collars and thought I'd give them a try. The first ones have already flown away and the material is not as high quality as the expensive versions, where ten pieces can cost 20 euros. Mine only cost three euros, so of course the quality is not comparable. But it's worth a try - maybe with the right technique they will stay in place after all.

My personal highlight, by the way, is that my planted hostas are already producing flowers and are continuing to blossom. I can't wait to see what they will look like and how they will unfold! I wonder what colour the flowers will be? 🌺

Then I bought a brushcutter - these things are really expensive! Even the cheap model I chose wasn't exactly cheap with the battery system and all the trimmings. I hope it was worth the investment, because I can't and don't want to have to keep buying new equipment.
Yesterday, I tried it out for the first time - and, of course, cut through a blackcurrant bush with a trunk a good two centimetres in diameter. LOOL! I definitely still need to learn how to use the device - I was a bit too rough here. It's amazing that the blade cut through this trunk effortlessly! So this thing has a lot of power. Of course I'm wearing safety goggles, because who knows what might fly at me. ⚒ 🔧 😆

Today I'm going to turn my attention to the chicken enclosure and see what awaits me there.
At this point I would like to mention my absolute favourite neighbours in the garden, who simply help with every problem and find solutions. The key to the chicken coop had disappeared and the door hadn't been opened for years because there was no way to do it. But my neighbour simply installed a new lock and left me the key with a note on the fence. Isn't that sweet?

People are so grateful that I make something of the property that they reward me with little ‘hard-working bonuses’. I was really happy about the great big organic eggs! 😍

Even the tree, which is said to have never borne fruit before, is full of fruit. When it bears fruit for the first time this year, I will be very grateful to God that I can experience this.

What do I do next and what do I start with first? I think I will tidy up the chicken coop and order diatomaceous earth.
In case you're wondering what diatomaceous earth is, it's an excellent remedy for mites. I will clean the coop thoroughly and then brush it with a water-diatomaceous earth mix. I will also set up a sand bath for the chickens in the outdoor enclosure, in which diatomaceous earth will be mixed regularly. To prevent the sand bath from getting muddy, it will be covered - maybe I can find an old sandpit for it.

As you can see, I have endless ideas - but unfortunately only two hands. LOOL!

Hallo ihr Lieben, ich wünsche euch allen einen wunderschönen Start in den Tag!
Seit einigen Stunden bin ich wach und denke über den Johannisbeerstrauch nach, den ich mit dem neuen Freischneider beschädigt habe. Er ging mir nicht mehr aus dem Kopf, so viel Empathie empfinde ich für ihn, dass ich mir Gedanken darüber machte, was aus ihm werden soll. Also habe ich recherchiert, wie ich ihm am besten helfen kann, und nun versuche ich, aus diesem Stamm einen zweiten Busch zu ziehen. Wenn ich heute in den Garten fahre, werde ich direkt damit beginnen.
Aber jetzt erst einmal zu dem, was bereits geschehen ist. Es war für mich ein perfekter Tag – bis auf das Malheur mit dem Johannisbeerstrauch.

Ich habe meine ersten Beete mit Gemüse bepflanzt und bin mehr als zufrieden. Ich habe verschiedene Mischkulturen zusammengestellt, damit die Ernte in diesem Jahr etwas vielseitiger, aber dafür weniger massenhaft ausfällt. Da ich den Boden nicht kenne und nicht weiß, was er über die Jahre angesammelt hat, werde ich dieses Jahr viel ausprobieren und testen.
Die Kohlpflanzen waren bereits vorgezogen, ebenso wie die Rote Bete und einige Salate. Mein Vorrat an Saatgut ist auch schon wieder gewachsen – ich konnte es nicht lassen, einige Gemüsesamen im Sale zu kaufen. Dafür musste sogar ein Nähkoffer ausgeräumt werden.

Aber das war noch nicht alles! Ich habe super günstig Schneckenkrägen ergattert und dachte mir, das probiere ich doch mal aus. Die ersten sind bereits weggeflogen, und das Material ist nicht so hochwertig wie bei den teuren Varianten, bei denen zehn Stück 20 Euro kosten können. Meine haben nur drei Euro gekostet, weshalb die Qualität natürlich nicht vergleichbar ist. Aber gut, ein Versuch ist es wert – vielleicht bleiben sie mit der richtigen Technik doch an Ort und Stelle.
Mein persönliches Highlight ist übrigens, dass meine gepflanzten Hostas bereits Blüten bekommen und immer weiter aufgehen. Ich bin gespannt, wie sie aussehen werden und wie sie sich entfalten! Welche Farbe die Blüte wohl hat? 

Dann habe ich mir einen Freischneider gekauft – diese Dinger sind ja echt teuer! Selbst das günstige Modell, das ich gewählt habe, war mit Akkusystem und allem Drum und Dran nicht gerade billig. Ich hoffe, die Investition war es wert, denn ich kann und will nicht ständig neue Geräte kaufen müssen.

Gestern habe ich ihn zum ersten Mal ausprobiert – und natürlich direkt einen Johannisbeerstrauch mit einem Stamm von gut zwei Zentimetern Durchmesser durchgehauen. LOOL! Die Handhabung mit dem Gerät muss definitiv noch gelernt werden – hier war ich etwas zu grob. Erstaunlich, dass das Messerblatt diesen Stamm mühelos durchgeschnitten hat! Also hat das Ding ordentlich Power. Natürlich trage ich eine Schutzbrille, denn wer weiß, was mir so entgegenfliegt.
Heute werde ich mich dem Hühnergehege widmen und schauen, was mich dort erwartet.

An dieser Stelle möchte ich meine absoluten Lieblingsnachbarn im Garten erwähnen, die einfach bei jedem Problem helfen und Lösungen finden. Der Schlüssel zum Hühnerstall war verschwunden, und die Tür wurde seit Jahren nicht mehr geöffnet, weil es keine Möglichkeit gab. Aber mein Nachbar hat einfach ein neues Schloss eingebaut und mir den Schlüssel mit einer Nachricht am Zaun hinterlassen. Ist das nicht lieb?

Die Leute sind so dankbar, dass ich etwas aus dem Grundstück mache, dass sie mich mit kleinen „Fleißigkeits-Bonis“ belohnen. Über die tollen großen Bio-Eier habe ich mich riesig gefreut!

Auch der Baum, der bisher noch nie Früchte getragen haben soll, ist voller Früchte. Wenn er in diesem Jahr das erste Mal trägt, bin ich Gott sehr dankbar, dass ich das erleben darf.

Wie geht es weiter und womit fange ich zuerst an? Ich denke, ich werde den Hühnerstall in Ordnung bringen und Kieselgur bestellen.

Falls ihr euch fragt, was Kieselgur ist: Es ist ein hervorragendes Mittel gegen Milben. Ich werde die Stallung gründlich reinigen und dann mit einem Wasser-Kieselgur-Mix einpinseln. Außerdem werde ich den Hühnern im Außengehege ein Sandbad einrichten, in das regelmäßig Kieselgur gemischt wird. Damit das Sandbad nicht matschig wird, soll es eine Überdachung bekommen – vielleicht finde ich ja einen alten Sandkasten dafür.
Ihr seht, Ideen habe ich ohne Ende – aber leider nur zwei Hände. LOOL!

Ich könnte noch endlos weiter schreiben, aber ein arbeitsreicher Tag wartet auf mich und ich werde euch davon in einem neuen Beitrag berichten.
