SNK vs Capcom Stronger Edition for Commodore 64/128 Demo
Capcom was not really prolific in supporting computers, often relying on licensing out their console games. This has left a big hole in Capcom style games on computers, in particular the Commodore 64, my personal favorite computer. U.S. Gold often picked up the rights, then just as quickly dropped the ball, for computer ports of Capcoms titles. Fans being fans this will not due and that brings us to this little release, SNK vs Capcom Stronger Edition by [YouTube member RetroGL]( https://www.youtube.com/@retrogl2580/videos).

<h2>No Idea Why Companies Are Not Working with Fans More</h2>

Could you imagine the world if gaming companies were more open to working with fans to make these demakes official releases? How cool would it be to visit a company store, almost all of them have one anymore, and find releases available for Commodore 64, Nintendo Entertainment System, etc.?

I know it is a pipe dream but it would be great to at least see some of these demakes by fans get some positive recognition from the rights owners. 

RetroGL is also behind a fantastic port of [Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo for Commodore 64]( https://hive.blog/hive-140217/@triverse/super-street-fighter-2-turbo-to-commodore-64-work-in-progress), a title I covered about a month ago. To say their work is phenomenal is an understatement.

This is 8-Bit. A computer released BEFORE the Nintendo Entertainment System over 40 years ago.

<h2>Capturing More Than the Essence</h2>

SNK vs Capcom Stronger Edition, much like their other game Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, captures more than just the essence of the official game. Characters are easily recognizable, even if they are severely less detailed. The animations are amazing as well. 

I grew up on Commodore 64 and Apple IIe or the Atari 2600 as my main gaming platforms. Well animated, very detailed, games were a rarity if ever in my early gaming life. Seeing SNK vs Capcom Stronger Edition running on a Commodore 64 is simply amazing to me.

This simply, utterly, should not be working yet here it is.

The backgrounds are animated as well, who remembers the absolute atrocious editing to the animation of the backgrounds of Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo? The Commodore 64 is literally trouncing Nintendoโ€™s 16-Bit console that had untold number of times more memory to work with.

When the fighting bug hit, what was your game of choice? One-on-one fighting games, I was far more a Street Fighter fan than I ever was an SNK one. SF2 just gelled with me, it helps it is probably the first one-on-one fighting game I ever really played too. What is yours?

For the hardware limitations the work they have done is impressive. Sometimes fans do miracles programming these games that put many developers to shame lol.

Right? I have to keep in mind, fans making these games are not under the same limitations commercial developers were back in the day too. For instance, no boss breathing down their neck over a budget or how long something is taking to get done and a looming deadline.

Plus, so much has been learned about these classic computers and consoles since back in the day, where most programmers were on the cutting edge and had nothing to compare to or build off of.

Nothing but respect for them all.
