Since a month ago, I was doing some house chores when I received a call from Faiqa,” I want to meet you tomorrow. Can you manage.” I asked if everything was alright. To which she  replied “Come to the university cafeteria tomorrow,I will tell you tomorrow one on one .” 

The next day we met in the cafeteria. After formal discussion, she said,” Usman  I want to discuss something with you. This thing has been bothering me for the last few weeks and now it is beyond my control.”

I surprisingly asked,” What happened?”

“He has been behaving very weirdly for the last few weeks. He ignores me . He is tring ways to stay away from me. I have asked it what’s the matter. And he always says no nothing. Now tell me what should I do” She frustratingly muttered to me.

I knew about whom she was talking about. She was talking about a boy with whom she had been in a relationship for two years. Though,she was not a relationship-type girl she was very happy with that. She got some attractive vibes from him that couldn’t let her stop herself getting attracted towards him. I knew Faiqa very well and i cautioned her previously that relationships are not your type. You are a sensitive girl and sometimes relationships affect your life in a more toxic way than a venome. But that time she didn’t pay heed to my advice. She was not wrong as well. Because when lose your heart to someone ,it is not in your control as well to resist you. She used to spend alot of time with her man . She was a social girl but she confined her to himself only.And this is how she was being rewarded.

“Faiqa, elaborate it to me clearly,” I asked her to elucidate the matter further.

“See Usman,all was good initially. Our first 6 months lapse together was the most beautiful part of my life. He kept me very special and in response turned very special for me. We used to spend a lot of time in many ways and share titters but then gradually love and attention appeared to be fading away from his side over the last few weeks he has started behaving very strangely and that is hurting me a lot? she told me.

“Strange in a sense….?” I inquired

She responded,” Look, I have spent two years with him and now from last year he has been away from me and we are in a distant relationship. I completely know his routine. His study routine….his sleeping routine…. in short, his whole day’s routine. For the last few weeks, he is not giving me time. Whenever I text him, he says I am busy. At night, when he used to talk to me to late nights. Now he informs me that I am sleeping. The problem is not that. My main problem is that he even stays online after that but doesn’t respond to me. “

“Did you try to ask from him if there is any matter or if is he annoyed at you or is there anything that is disturbing him ?” I asked further.

She said,” Yes I did, and not even a single time but myriad of times but he spoke nary a word “

Faiqa was very close to me. We share a very affectionate and respectful friendship rapport and seeing her in such a depressed condition was very annoying for me. But I didn’t want to intervene in them. Rather I opted to give her the best advice as was possible from my side.

“Faiqa, you know me better. I am of an aggressive nature. I believe we should not compromise on our dignity and ego. I am not asking you to do it but after pondering on all that matter, I will suggest to you that now it is time to pay him back with the same coin” I said 

Faiqa replied,” I couldn’t understand…I am here because I trust you and value you. Don’t hesitate. Say it clearly”

“OK, listen. He is ignoring you so you instead of absorbing it, reflect it back. I know it will be hard for you but stop thinking about him for some days. Don’t text or call him. If he calls or texts, just do a formal chat and then see off him giving any excuse. Get busy somewhere else. Make him suffer what you did by exactly doing what he did. And see how he responds. If he identifies his mistake then all good. Otherwise, you are sensible enough to know and react accordingly.” I advised her.

Though my advice was the bit that could risk her relationship what’s the motive of being in such a toxic bond that is glooming you instead of sedation? She agreed with me. I relaxed her by changing the topic and then we bifurcated.


Now I was waiting to see what would happen next and one day she called me laughingly. I inquired her to which she said your suggestion worked.

I exactly did what he was doing. Initially, he didn’t notice and this thing depressed me further but I stayed resolute one day he asked himself what’s the matter to which even I said nary a word. This drama continued for 10 days and then he eventually identified on his own that he was wrong and apologized to me. 

“So what did you do?” I laughed and asked.

“Well, how can I forgive so easily? I further hung the matter until he literally became crazy. But as you know I love him a lot so I don’t want to hurt him. But I did set up some conditions and now the terms are good” she answered.

Her answer assuaged me and we exchanged giggles.
