Evening approached and at last the castle loomed in the distance. Immagen watched as it grew closer. This would be her home for who knew how long. She shuddered, perhaps from the cold as she still wore nothing more than the riding cloak.
	
Valston’s arm held her close to him. “I will be your guide as well as your lover,” he said, kissing her neck.
	
“It’s so big!” she cried.
	
“Not so big, really. It just looks impressive – as it’s meant to.”
	
She worried as they neared the end of their journey. She worried that if she fought her position, she would end up humiliated again. She worried that she would die of some horrible disease because she wasn’t allowed to refuse. She was afraid of becoming pregnant and equally afraid of being found infertile as she suspected might be the case with Nancy. Maybe the King would be kind and allow her to bond with Valston, but realistically, she knew the King wanted to punish her still, so he would almost certainly refuse them permission. Valston had promised to make sure she only carried his children, but how could he be sure?
	
Would she ever see Neeve again? Neeve had raised her since her mother died. What about Eefa and Awnye? It was all too much.
	
“What’s the matter?” Valston asked.
	
“Just thinking about everything,” Immagen replied. “I’m scared. Do you think it would be okay for me to wear my claws sometimes?”
	
“Yes, sometimes… though you will have to be able to bear whatever punishment the King gives out as a result.”
	
“Is it worth the risk?”
	
“I guess it depends on the King’s mood and whether he’s around to settle any squabbles. If you wear your claws enough, most of the men won’t challenge you. Your Jake, however...”
	
“He’s not my Jake!”
	
“He’s no one else’s either.”
	
“The King can have him. My gift!”
	
Valston laughed. “I guess it makes sense!”
	
“I won’t let him have me, no matter what!”
	
“Which would be why I had to rescue you the other night?”
	
“I was too afraid the King would punish me again. I froze.”
	
“I will protect you as much as I can.”
	
“I love you, Valston.”
	
“I know, Immagen. Tonight, we can sleep in a real bed, together. I can’t promise you much more than that.”
	
“I know. But I appreciate you.”

Eefa lay on the bench, the young King thrusting deep into her body again. She had somehow anticipated entering Castel Velantia sitting next to him and her sister, not lying underneath him. “Some like to carry their women across the threshhold,” he grumbled into her ear as he made love to her. “I would make love to my queen as we enter our home city.”
	
She thought about the fact that she couldn’t be his queen – according to him – unless she begat him a son. She prayed to the gods that she would be able to give him what he wanted the most. It would be a dream come true to have the one thing that would make him stay with her forever.
	
She cried out with arousal and desire. She was barely old enough to provide the King with what he wanted, but she wanted it beyond reason. She would give him a son and he would make her Queen. Her life would be secure – and hopefully the lives of her siblings and mother too – even Conan’s life would be secure.
	
Eefa wondered about Awnye, already cast aside by the King. Would Awnye be safe? She would have to talk to her sister as soon as Finn would let her.

Awnye sat next to Tate as they went under the floral arch at the top end of the village. They followed the King’s carriage. Awnye felt slightly jealous, watching the King make love to her sister.
	
Only an hour ago, Tate had pulled her onto his lap, lifting her skirts and pulling her down onto his hard arousal. Straddling him, Awnye loved feeling his shaft impaling her body slowly, but insistently. It rubbed her perfectly. She almost hoped that Tate would give her the child the King had promised her. She wondered whether she would even know the truth of her first child’s parentage. How would she know whether it was Finn or Tate’s child?
	
“What are you thinking about?” Tate asked.
	
“I’m wondering about my future...”
	
“That’s serious,” Tate replied. “You may stay with me as long as we’re allowed.”
	
“Until I met the King, I worked at my mother’s pub, taking the odd client for the night…”
	
“Not every woman would be pleased with that kind of work,” Tate observed.
	
“Every job has its ups and downs – mine more than most.”
	
Tate laughed at the pun. “I like that you have a good attitude and a vibrant spirit. How is your mother going to cope without you?”
	
“She has Martin now. She’ll be fine,” Awnye replied.
	
“You might be stuck as a woman of the Guard – but maybe, if you’ve conceived the King’s spawn, you will be given a cottage so the King can keep an eye on you.”
	
“I would like that,” Awnye replied. “I could live happily enough there.”
	
“Although the King would demand access to you from time to time, he wouldn’t object to me keeping you company.”
	
Awnye smiled. She would like that too. “Maybe I will tire of you,” she said mischievously.
	
“Maybe,” he admitted. “I wouldn’t tire of you though – unlike the King. I would do nice things for you until you let me do nice things to you again.”
	
Her smile grew again as she took his hand. Even if the King rejected her, she would be okay here in Castel Velantia.

Leesha still held Fain’s hand as he showed her the Guardhouse.
	
“Are you going to share her tonight?” Travis asked, taking her in with his gaze.
	
“I wasn’t planning on it,” Fain replied.
	
“Tomorrow night then.”
	
Leesha giggled, not completely used to men arguing over her. Even in the pub, the arrangements had remained formal in order to handle money correctly.
	
A young woman with a rounded belly came through the room, Nancy walking with her. Travis’ attention immediately taken up, he caught her in his arms. The woman, barely older than a girl shrieked with laughter as he positioned her over a bed, bared her butt and shoved his eager lust into her.
	
“That would be Asaya, carrying Chester’s baby, we think.”
	
“And when I get pregnant?” Leesha asked.
	
“You work here until Stella excuses you. Then you return when you can,” Fain replied.
