Bitcoin Mining on a C64 😂 not profitable, but it would work 😄 (Hash Rate comparison)

Die 8-Bit-Community hat einen Bitcoin Miner für den Commodore 64 programmiert 😂

Genial, dass man damit sogar auf einen C64 Bitcoin minen könnte, aber das Minen wäre so langsam, dass es 10^16 Jahre dauern würde (also länger als unsere Sonnensystem existieren würde), um einen Block zu finden.

Habe das gerade nachgerechnet, es würde definitiv länger dauern als im Video angegeben.

Die aktuelle Bitcoin Hashrate beträgt nämlich derzeit circa 150 ExaHashes pro Sekunde, das sind 150 * 10^18 Hashes pro Sekunde.

Die circa 1 MHz schnelle 8-bit CPU (MOS 6510) des C64 schafft aber nicht einmal 0.3 Hashes pro Sekunde.

Zum Vergleich, der leistungsstärkste ASIC-basierte Antminer schafft 110 TeraHashes pro Sekunde.

Proof of Work wäre also zumindest prinzipiell bereits mit C64-Hardware möglich gewesen :) Was sagt ihr dazu?

The 8-bit community has developed a Bitcoin Miner for the Commodore 64 😂

Awesome, you could even mine Bitcoin on a C64, but mining would be so slow that it would take 10^16 years (longer than our solar system / galaxy would exist) to find a block.

Just did the math, it would definitely take longer than stated in the video.

The current Bitcoin hash rate is about 150 ExaHashes per second, which is 150 * 10^18 hashes per second.

The approx. 1 MHz fast 8-bit CPU (MOS 6510) of the C64 does not even manage 0.3 hashes per second.

For comparison, the most powerful ASIC-based Antminer performs a whopping 110 TeraHashes per second.

Proof of Work would have been possible at least in theory already with the hardware of the 1980s :) Mind boggling.

So that means, in a nutshell, the 0.3 hashes per second is very poor when compared with ASICS based miner and it would take almost everlasting to get something tangible.

Da muss ich doch mal schauen wo der ist und wie sehe es mit dem Amiga 1200 aus, der müsste auch noch auf dem Dachboden sein ;)


Ich hatte mal gesehen, das wer jede Menge Handys zum Schürfen genugzt hat. K.a. ob das echt war oder nur nen Fakebild. Weiß nicht wie gut 20 Handys das machen und ob sichs lohnt bzgl. Stromkosten.

Denk eher nicht, dass sich das lohnt, dazu sind die ASIC-Miner zu effizient. Gegen die hat man eigentlich keine Chance.
