El Salvadorian Lightning App Strike will launch in the EU and UK in "Q2 2021". Cannot wait to test it.

Wollte schon die neue Strike-App, die auch in El Salvador zum Einsatz kommen soll (Bitcoin for Countries), ausprobieren.

Aber leider ist sie "not available in this country" (Austria, European Union).

Die gute Nachricht ist allerdings, dass Strike bereits die Verfügbarkeit für die EU und UK für Q2 2021 angekündigt hat.

Das heißt, sie sollte eigentlich bald verfügbar sein. Grund sind wie immer die komplizierten KYC-Bestimmungen, da die App nicht nur Bitcoin, sondern auch USD nutzt.

Die App funktioniert aber bereits in El Salvador und den USA und benötigt für die KYC-Registrierung eine E-Mail-Adresse und die Telefonnummer und ist daher nicht anonym.

Vom Prinzip her ist es eine benutzerfreundliche Custodial-Lightning-App ähnlich wie BlueWallet. Anders würde das in dieser Größenordnung nicht funktionieren. Es ist wie immer ein Kompromiss/Trade-Off, eine Kombination aus einer zentralisierten und dezentralen Lösung. Man kann die Bitcoin jederzeit auf eine eigene Bitcoin oder Lightning Wallet transferieren und auch externe, dezentralisierte Lightning-Zahlungen sollen möglich sein.

Der Vorteil einer Layer 2-Lösung wie Lightning ist, dass so keine oder nur sehr geringe Gebühren anfallen und die Transaktionen instant abgewickelt werden. Vermutlich sind Überweisung zwischen Strike-Teilnehmern sogar gratis und außerhalb fallen die sehr niedrigen Lightning-Gebühren an. Auch normale Bitcoin-Transaktionen sind möglich, kosten dann aber die Bitcoin-üblichen Fees.

Strike bietet neben der mobilen App übrigens auch ein Lightning-basiertes Browser-Addon ähnlich wie MetaMask oder Hive Keychain an, mit dem man dann auch direkt im Browser Bitcoin-Überweisungen vornehmen kann.

Empfehle auch die emotionale Rede von Strike CEO Jack Mallers anzuschauen, wo er die App und die Ankündigung des Präsidenten von El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, Bitcoin als gesetzliches Zahlungsmittel zu akzeptieren, vorstellt.

Werde die Strike-App jedenfalls testen, sobald sie in der EU verfügbar wird.

I wanted to give the new Strike app a try, which will also be used in El Salvador (Bitcoin for Countries).

But unfortunately it is "not available in this country" (Austria, European Union).

However, the good news is that Strike has already announced availability for the EU and UK for Q2 2021.

That means it should actually be available soon. The reason, as always, is the complicated KYC regulations, as the app uses USD as well as Bitcoin.

However, the app already works in El Salvador and the US and requires an email address and phone number for KYC registration, so it is not anonymous.

In principle, it is a user-friendly custodial Bitcoin Lightning app similar to BlueWallet. It wouldn't work any other way at this scale. As always it is a compromise/trade-off, a combination of a centralized and decentralized solution. You can transfer Bitcoin to your own Bitcoin or Lightning wallet at any time and external, decentralized Lightning payments should also be possible.

The advantage of a Layer 2 solution like Lightning is that there are no or only very low fees and the transactions are processed instantaneously. Presumably, transfers between Strike users will be even free and the very low Lightning fees apply outside. Normal Bitcoin transactions are also possible, but they will cost the usual Bitcoin fees.

By the way, Strike also offers a Lightning-based browser add-on similar to MetaMask or Hive Keychain in addition to the mobile app, which can then also be used to make Bitcoin transfers directly in the browser.

Recommend watching Strike CEO Jack Mallers emotional speech where he introduces the app and the announcement by the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, to accept Bitcoin as legal tender.

Will definitely test the Strike app once it becomes available in the EU.

Wieder ein guter Infoservice - vielen Dank!

Im Prinzip finde es es hervorragend, wenn das Lightning Network für jedermann bereitstehen würde.
Jedermann bedeutet kinderleicht zu bedienen und ohne Fehlfunktionen.

Da ich vor allem ein Hodler bin, genügt mir die Hauptkette, falls ich mal eine Transaktion durchführen möchte (nicht für Kaffee und Kuchen). Für niedrigpreisige Zahlungen nehme ich gerne mal den Litecoin.

Das Problem von Lightning ist, dass es relativ kompliziert ist, wenn man eine eigene Wallet betreibt. Mit custodial Wallets übernimmt die App die ganze Arbeit und sollte kinderleicht sein, aber man verliert damit die Dezentralität und vertraut die Bitcoin dem Betreiber ähnlich einer Bank an.

Wenn mal eine gewisse Akzeptanz des LN da ist, lohnt es sich, das mal auzuprobieren.
Habe testhalber ein paar Satoshi auf die LN-Seite der Bluewallet verschoben. Als ich in 2 Jahren *einmal* die Gelegenheit hatte, damit was zu bezahlen (wollte was bei Coinify kaufen), hat es nicht funktioniert. Und jetzt kann ich die Satoshis nicht mehr zurück auf die BTC-Seite der Bluewallet verschieben, geschweigedenn an eine normale BTC-Adresse senden. Oder weißt Du, wie es geht? Ich hab alles probiert.

Es ist weniger gefährlich, sich als Versuchskaninchen beim Lightning Network zu betätigen als bei den mRNA-Impfungen. Fast jeder hat doch schon mal ein paar Coins durch unglückliche Umstände verloren.
Trotzdem freue ich mich auf den Tag, an dem Transkationen im LN reibungslos funktionieren.

Das auf jeden Fall. Es hätte mich nur interessiert, wie es geht, die Satoshis sind ja in meiner LN-Wallet. Es muß doch eine Möglichkeit geben, sie zurückzuholen.

Hmm, vielleicht liegt es daran, dass der Betrag geringer ist als die Fees. Für eine Überweisung auf eine eigene Lightning Wallet muss diese genügend eingehende Kapazität enthalten. Bitcoin mit einer Lightning Wallet empfangen ist kompliziert, wenn man keine custodial Wallet verwendet. Aber mit BlueWallet müsste es in beide Richtungen gehen.
