Reddit is restricting anonymous access to their mobile website, forcing users to install their proprietary app. No, thanks!

Ist euch auch schon aufgefallen, dass Reddit auf dem Smartphone nicht mehr abrufbar ist und man praktisch gezwungen wird eine proprietäre App zu installieren? Als Workaround muss man sich mit einem Reddit-Account auf der Website einloggen, kann die Website aber nicht mehr anonym checken, und die Frage ist auch, wie lange die mobile Website noch unterstützt wird. Finde das geht zu weit!

Ah very annoying. On Chromium for mobile (and it's descendants like Chrome), if you go to the settings while on a page, you should see a "Desktop Site" option. Should allow you to circumvent this annoyance.

Totally agree. It's inconsiderate towards users with basic hardware. It's also inconsiderate towards users with sufficient hardware that want to follow best security and privacy practices. It's insulting to be asked to install an app just to view a basic forum website.

Recently returned from Liberia in Africa, where mobile data is purchased by the megabyte. This Reddit policy is basically locking these individuals out from viewing information on Reddit.

Reddit war schon länger recht aufdringlich mit der App wenn man über den mobilen brwoser rauf ist, daher wundert mich dieser Schritt nicht.
Ich weiß nicht warum Reddit die App erzwingen will und von prinzip können sie auf ihrer Seite machen was sie wollen aber gut finde ich diesen Schritt nicht.

Ich gebe zu das mir das zwar nicht mal aufgefallen ist das ich über den klassischen Pc auf Reddit gehe aber wer weiß, was da noch kommt.

Diese penetrante Abfrage ob man im Chrome bleiben möchte (obwohl ich Brave verwendet habe) oder die App installieren soll, war auch schon sehr nervend. Finde den Schritt auch nicht gut, noch ein Grund Steemit statt Reddit zu verwenden ;) Steemit/Steem ist trotz allen Problemen viel dezentraler und offener als Reddit es je war.

Nein, ist mir noch nicht aufgefallen. Es war bisher aber für meinen Geschmack schon viel zu Penetrant mit der Abfrage, ob man wirklich im Browser bleiben möchte.

Aber auch die IOTA Zensur in /r/cryptocurrency stößt mir sauer auf.

Diese penetrante Abfrage, ob man im Browser bleiben möchte, war auch schon sehr nervend. Jetzt haben sie den Zugang zur mobilen Website für nicht angemeldete User gänzlich gesperrt.

Ok, so this isn’t just me that’s noticed this then? I’ve been dealing with this when clicking on Reddit links in Telegram. It’s basically impossible to view a Reddit post in a mobile browser and instead has to be effectively viewed in the Reddit app. Which I mean... I have the app, and it’s ok-ish, but for someone that doesn’t have the app it would be horribly annoying! Why Reddit thought this was a good idea is beyond me...

Yes, this is really annoying, you cannot even share links to Reddit any more, because users without the proprietary app cannot view them. Don't know why they are doing it, maybe to force install the app, maybe because they want to track the users, have access to the phone and other stuff on the phone, or want to show more ads/notifications etc. (also the mobile website used to have promoted posts).

It’s probably to serve as a way to gatekeep users to using one specific app, specifically theirs... It’s also maybe a way to stop people from using 3rd party Reddit apps as well, as I have no clue if the closed off communities are accessible from the non-official Reddit apps.
