What's new in 2025: New controversial EU MiCA regulation will come into force: self-hosted wallets need to be "verified", KYC-ed in the EU. Tether and other stablecoins like HBD are going to be banned in the EU. Financial freedom looks different.

Ab morgen tritt die umstrittene EU-Regulierung MiCA für die Krypto-Branche in Kraft.

Selbst-gehostete Wallets müssen ab morgen "verifiziert" (KYC-registriert), de-anonymisiert werden.

Das klingt nach extrem viel Bürokratie. Frage mich, wie das bei Börsen umgesetzt wird. Muss man vor jeder Überweisung von einer Wallet diese verifizieren oder reicht es bei einer Überweisung zu deklarieren, dass einem die Wallet gehört? Wie funktioniert das bei Überweisungen zwischen Börsen? Wird das in Zukunft überhaupt noch möglich sein?

Auch ohne MiCA-Regulierung müssen Krypto-Börsen und Banken in der EU bereits Anti-Geldwäsche und Mittelherkunft-Überprüfungen auch bei Krypto-Assets durchführen. Mit MiCA wird aber alles noch komplizierter und bürokratischer. Bei Krypto-Transaktionen unter 1000 soll aber die "Verfifikation" durch Selbstdeklartation vereinfacht sein.

Und noch eine Änderung kommt mit MiCA. Algorithmische Stablecoins wie Hive Doller (HBD), Tether und nicht EU-geprüfte Stablecoins werden als "unautorisierte Stablecoins" in der EU nicht mehr handelbar sein.

Vor allem das Aus für Tether könnte ein großes Problem für EU-Krypto-User werden, da USDT der beliebteste Stablecoin weltweit ist.

Insgesamt wird die EU mit zunehmender restriktiver Regulierung immer unattraktiver für die Krypto-Branche werden und könnte so den Anschluss im wichtigen FinTech-Sektor verlieren.

From tomorrow, the controversial regulation MiCA comes into force for the crypto industry in the EU.

Self-hosted wallets must be “verified” (KYC-registered) and de-anonymized starting tomorrow.

That sounds like a lot of bureaucracy. I wonder how this will be implemented by exchanges. Do you have to verify a wallet before every transfer or is it enough to declare that you own the wallet when making a transfer? How does this work for transfers between exchanges? Will this still be possible in the future at all?

Even without MiCA regulation, exchanges and banks in the EU already have to carry out anti-money laundering and origin of funds checks for crypto-assets. With MiCA, however, everything will become even more complicated and bureaucratic. For crypto transactions under 1000 Euro, however, “verification” will be simplified through self-declaration.

And there is another change coming with MiCA. Algorithmic stablecoins such as Hive Doller (HBD), Tether and non-EU-verified stablecoins will no longer be tradable in the EU and will be labeled as “unauthorized stablecoins”.

The end of Tether in particular could be a major problem for EU crypto users, as USDT is the most popular stablecoin worldwide.

Overall, the EU will become increasingly unattractive for the crypto sector with increasingly restrictive regulation and could thus lose its position in the important FinTech sector.

Ja, es wird spannend :-)
Aber selbstgehostete Wallets, kann selbst die EU nicht verbieten. Natürlich ist es dann schwieriger aber über P2P immer noch möglich.
Außerdem glaube ich, dass HBD nicht unter die Verbotsliste fällt, da er nicht über eine FIAT Währung abgesichert wird, sondern in Form von virtuellen Hive über die Hiveblockchain, welche man über den Blockexplorer leicht überprüfen kann.
Im Grunde sind HBD eigentlich Hive, welcher den Wert von einer ganz bestimmten Anzahl Hive, in USD wiederspiegelt.

To be honest, I don't think their intentions will succeed, mainly because it goes against the essence of cryptocurrencies: "being anonymous", so anything that involves KYC is not going to succeed, on the contrary, just mentioning this , makes the trend further strengthen anonymity.
