# Der Rock-’n’-Roll mit seinen vielen Gesichtern

Without even thinking that a post could ever emerge from the reasonably organised jumble in my head, I've come to believe that I'm also one of those people who categorise what they've seen, heard or written and then puts it into folders. This then ranges from 'should-be-alright' and 'not-really-sure' to 'complete rubbish'. It is often the case that I further subdivide what I have saved and assign emotional terms to it, all of which are borrowed from music. Blues, funk, jazz, heavy metal, classical or rock 'n' roll - and it's this last folder that you're going to open up now.

> Ohne überhaupt einen Gedanken daran verschwendet zu haben, aus dem leidlich geordneten Wirrwarr in meinem Kopf könnte je ein Beitrag entstehen, hing ich fest an der Erkenntnis, auch zu der Sorte Mensch zu gehören, die Gesehenes, Vernommenes oder Geschriebenes in Kategorien einteilen und diese dann wiederum Ordnern zuteile. Das reicht dann von „Ganz-in-Ordnung“, über „so-na-ja“ bis zu „Vollendeter Schrott“. Vielfach kommt es dabei vor, dass ich das Abgespeicherte nochmals unterteile und mit emotionalen Begriffen unterlege, die allesamt der Musik entliehen sind. Blues, Funk, Jazz, Heavy Metal, Klassik oder Rock ‘n’ Roll - und genau in diesen, als den zuletzt genannten Ordner, dürft ihr heute einen Blick riskieren.

## Rock 'n' roll on paper:

A gust of wind coming from the north turns into John Lennon Avenue, ignoring the fact that it is a one-way street, hurries to reach the traffic lights at Beethoven Square while they are still green, races across the intersection to Charlie Parker Street, hits a blue-and-white '91 Opel Corsa, has a quick chat with the road rage guy and decides to pass the time until the police arrive with a snack and a Bacardi & Coke.

## Rock ‘n’ Roll auf dem Papier:
> Ein Windstoß, von Norden her kommend, biegt in die John-Lennon-Allee ein, vollkommen die Tatsache ignorierend, dass es sich hierbei um eine Einbahnstraße handelt, beeilt sich am Beethoven-Platz die Ampel noch in der Grünphase zu erreichen, rast über die Kreuzung in Richtung Charlie-Parker-Straße, streift dabei einen blau-weißen Opel Corsa Bj. 91, unterhält sich kurz mit dem Straßenfeger und beschließt die Zeit bis zum Eintreffen der Polizei mit dem Einnehmen einer kleinen Mahlzeit und einem Bacardi-Cola zu überbrücken.

## Rock 'n' roll in nature:

The sunrise with its power to reveal to the eye everything that the night has concealed, the wild play of colours of the leaves under the direction of the seasons and the opening of the flowers with its innumerable shades of scent. All this is definitely part of it. Part of daily rock 'n' roll.

## Rock ‘n’ Roll in der Natur:
> Der Sonnenaufgang mit seiner Kraft all das für das Auge freizulegen, was die Nacht noch verschlungen hatte, das wilde Farbenspiel der Blätter unter der Dirigentschaft der Jahreszeiten und das Öffnen der Blüten mit ihren unzähligen Duft-Nuancen. All das gehört definitiv dazu. Zum täglichen Rock ‘n’ Roll.

A little something that you can conjure up in a few simple steps and then let melt in your mouth, preferably in the company of friends.

## Rock 'n' roll on canvas:

It is often the case that our home seems to be held in a spell of silence. These are usually the moments when I'm poring over a text or reading a book and my wife is standing in front of the canvas or a sheet of paper, letting her inspiration flow into the colours, the chalk, or the charcoal. Now and then, I have a look at what is being created, stroke by stroke, and I envy her for having this gift.
There is, however, one way in which our work is similar. In the beginning, there is always just a blank sheet of paper. And then it starts to rock 'n' roll.

## Rock ‘n’ Roll auf der Leinwand:
> Es kommt oft vor, dass unser Heim wie von der Stille gefangen scheint. Das sind meist die Momente, in denen ich über einem Text brüte, ein Buch lese und meine Frau vor der Leinwand oder dem Bogen Papier steht und ihre Inspiration in die Farben, Kreide oder den Kohlestift fließen lässt. Ab und an werfe ich dann einen Blick auf das, was da Strich für Strich entsteht und beneide sie für diese Gabe.
> In einem gleicht sich jedoch unsere Arbeit. Am Anfang ist immer nur das weiße Blatt. Und dann beginnt der Rock ‘n’ Roll.

## Rock ‘n’ Roll on stage:
## Jack Slamer

The Swiss band released an album of the same name. They were hoping (like everyone who thinks they have a brilliant idea) for a breakthrough. They hoped to become more popular, to play more gigs and (not unimportant) to finally make some money. And what has happened? Nothing at all! 
But as luck would have it, someone from the 'Nuclear Blast' label got hold of the 'slow seller'. They signed "Jack Slamer", re-recorded the album and, lo and behold, success suddenly materialised.

> Die Schweizer Band veröffentlichte ein Album unter gleichem Namen und erhoffte sich (wie wohl jeder, der glaubt, eine geniale Idee umgesetzt zu haben), den Durchbruch zu Schaffen. Mehr Popularität, mehr Auftritte und (auch nicht ganz unwichtig) endlich etwas Kleingeld in der Tasche. Was passierte? Nichts! 
> Doch wollte es der Zufall, dass jemand von dem Label ”Nuclear Blast” den “Ladenhüter” in die Hände bekam. Man nahm »Jack Slamer« unter Vertrag, arrangierte das Album neu und siehe da - plötzlich stellte sich auch der Erfolg ein.

## Guano Apes

Founded in 1994 by Henning Rümenapp, Dennis Poschwatta and Stefan Ude, this German band (Göttingen/Lower Saxony) features the outstanding vocalist Sandra Nasić. In the beginning, things were a bit slow for the "Guano Apes". So they decided to use the internet to make themselves better known. And that worked. The song "Lords of the Boards" was adopted as their anthem by the huge community of skaters and snowboarders. For the band, who have since released five studio albums, this was the absolute breakthrough.

> Die deutsche Formation (Göttingen/Niedersachsen), mit ihrer herausragenden Sängerin Sandra Nasić,  wurde bereits 1994 von Henning Rümenapp, Dennis Poschwatta und Stefan Ude gegründet. Da es auch bei den »Guano Apes« anfänglich etwas schleppend anlief, trafen sie die Entscheidung, um mehr Bekannheit zu erringen, intensiv das Internet zu nutzen. Mit Erfolg. Denn die riesige Gemeinde der Skater und Snowboarder nahm sich den Song „Lords of the Boards“ als ihre Hymne. Dies bedeutete den absoluten Durchbruch für die Band, die seither fünf Studioalben veröffentlichte.

## Parni Valjak

I've long since given up trying to count the number of concerts I've seen live and in colour over the years. Some of them I left a long time before the last song was played, while others are still deeply engraved in my memory. I am indebted to the group "Parni Valjak" for a concert that definitely seems to be indelible. First of all, because the formation around their "leader" Husein Hasanefendić ("Hus") fills every hall and the audience is fully engaged from the very first chord. But also because the singer of the band, Aki Rahimovski, passed away two years ago much too early. Parni Valjak (Steamroller) have been rock 'n' rolling on the stage (with one interruption) since 1975 and are still worth every cent you spend on a live performance.

> Ich habe es längst aufgegeben zu zählen, wie viele Konzerte ich im Lauf der Jahre live und in Farbe miterlebt habe. So manche habe ich lange vor dem letzten Song verlassen, während andere sich tief in mein Gedächtnis eingebrannt haben. Ein Konzert, das definitiv unauslöschlich scheint, verdanke ich der Gruppe ”Parni Valjak”. Vorrangig deshalb, weil die Formation rund um ihren ‘Leader’ Husein Hasanefendić (“Hus”) jede Halle füllt und vom ersten Akkord das Publikum auf Hochtouren ist. Aber auch, weil der Sänger der Band, Aki Rahimovski, vor zwei Jahren viel zu früh starb. Parni Valjak (Dampfwalze) rock ‘n’ rollen (mit einer Unterbrechung) bereits seit 1975 über die Bühnen und sind bis heute jeden Cent für einen Live-Auftritt wert.
