<p>  Canada is part of the British Commonwealth. Like any other country part of that was using the face of Queen Elizabeth II in all coins and also in some bank notes. Now they are changing it to King Charles III. Here in Canada, only the $20 bill has the queen's face and probably soon they are going to change to the king's face. They are currently minting the first batch of $1 coins with the king's face, let's see how it goes. However, it is complicated the real role of the British King in our country, they have in theory some representation in the government, but it is more a symbolic representation. They don't interfere with any decision from our parliament. I guess even in the UK they lost their role, royalty is just a symbol. What did they do to humanity? Only to stamp gossip magazines. For me, I would wipe their faces at least from the Canadian currency. But who should I replace it? </p>

Agora, estão mudando para o Rei Charles III. Aqui no Canadá, apenas a nota de $20 tem o rosto da rainha, e provavelmente em breve vão mudar para o rosto do rei. <p>  At least, the other banknotes have interesting people that actually did something for the country, such as Viola Desmond, a woman who fought against racial segregation when that was a big problem in the 40s; Wilfrid Laurier, the first french Canadian prime minister that fought for the french Canadians rights, also had the longest mandate in a role for 15 years; John Macdonald, considered the father of the confederation, and the first prime minister; William Lyon Mackenzie King, the tenth prime minister that passed with the country through the great depression and the second world war, some people say that he was important in the international politics putting Canada in the top countries after the second world war; and Robert Laird Borden, the prime minister that went through the first world war. So except for Viola Desmond, all the others were prime ministers. They did something for the country, but for me, there are people who deserve some important positions in the bills instead of politicians. Some of these Canadians had some temporary presence in coins. So let's go slowly through how I would change the currency. First a permanent face in coins like we have with kings or queens? For me no. I would replace the face with a symbol of Canada. Why not the maple leaf? The coats of arms could be also a possibility but still have lots of British symbols on them! For the bank notes I would keep Viola, she is a great example who actually fought racial segregation John Macdonald as well, since he is one of the most important personalities, similar to George Washington to the U.S. Terry Fox for example was an important personality that when you come to Canada you need to know his story. There is a whole day each year that we remember him and gather donations for Cancer Research. There is a Cancer Research foundation in his name. He was a young guy diagnosed early in his life with bone cancer, he had to pass through surgery and remove one of his legs because of that. Instead of just giving up of his life to the disease, he decided to run through the country to collect donations to cancer research with an artificial leg. He was still 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. He started to run from Atlantic Canada and the Marathon of Hope, as it was called is repeated every year in the country. He couldn't finish his marathon, the cancer came back when he was in the central part of the country and he died when he was still 22 years old. He died in 1981 and we still remember him every year, so he impacted and is still impacting Canadian life with how important is to invest in cancer research. For sure he would be one of the faces in my bank notes. </p>

Há um dia inteiro a cada ano que nos lembramos dele e arrecadamos doações para a Pesquisa do Câncer. Existe uma fundação de pesquisa do câncer em seu nome. Ele foi diagnosticado jovem, com câncer ósseo, teve que passar por cirurgia e remover uma de suas pernas por causa disso. Em vez de simplesmente desistir de sua vida para a doença, ele decidiu correr pelo país para arrecadar doações para a pesquisa do câncer com uma perna artificial. Ele tinha apenas 18 anos quando foi diagnosticado com osteossarcoma. Ele começou a correr do Atlântico Canadense e a Maratona da Esperança, como era chamada, é repetida a cada ano no país. Also, the inventor of insulin and winner of the Nobel Prize Frederick Banting should be another name. We could think also of important musicians and artists to be there, but for sure let's reduce the number of politicians in addition to the king faces in our currency. </p>
