### Entre los sueños y la realidad//Between dreams and reality.

La voz de mi madre en la infancia siempre produjo una melodía de superación personal. Mi madre me dijo: “Hijo, Dios te conceda que puedas entrar a la universidad para que puedas graduarte para que puedas tener una profesión y con el tiempo puedas comprarnos una casa mejor y tu padre pueda superar la enfermedad que enfrenta, ya que nosotros no tenemos recursos para que tenga bienestar y salud”.

Con estas palabras crecí desde mi infancia. En realidad vivíamos en una zona marginal con muchas necesidades y la casa donde vivíamos, cada vez que llovía, el agua penetraba por el techo y la casa por dentro se mojaba mucho y el pueblo se inundaba y la irrupción de las aguas negras producía muchas enfermedades.

Mi sueño era graduarme temprano, trabajar y comprar una casa nueva para mis padres en una mejor zona y con mejores condiciones de vida.

Yo quería ir a la universidad, sin embargo, mi padre enfermó y él era, quien me ayudaba a cubrir los gastos de mis estudios.
#
Estuve a punto de abandonar mis estudios y buscar un trabajo que me permitiera ayudar a mi padre con su enfermedad y ayudar a alimentar a mi familia. Mi madre me suplicó y me dijo que no dejara de estudiar, pero el tema era dinero para pagar el transporte, ya que la universidad estaba a una hora de mi lugar de residencia.

Hubo muchos obstáculos, sin embargo, una señora me ofreció trabajo los fines de semana y con lo poco que ganaba sólo podía pagar parcialmente el transporte a la universidad.

Cuando pasaba todo el día en la universidad, iba a los lugares donde estaban los árboles de mango y almorzaba comiendo mangos y en algunas ocasiones comía hot dogs. Así transcurrieron los cinco años de estudios en la Universidad de Carabobo hasta graduarme como educador.

Mi sueño de graduarme se cumplió con muchos obstáculos y contratiempos, pero las realidades que me tocó vivir fueron casi infernales.
#
Los consejos de mi madre cada día fueron una fuente de fortaleza, empuje y coraje, que me permitieron reunir el valor suficiente para no renunciar a mi sueño de obtener un título universitario.
#

My mother begged me and told me not to stop studying, but the issue was money to pay for transportation, since the university was an hour away from my place of residence.

### Siguieron los sueños y los obstáculos//Dreams and obstacles followed.

Mi sueño ya no era graduarme de una carrera universitaria, porque gracias a Dios lo había logrado. Ahora, mi sueño se centró en conseguir un buen trabajo, comprarle una casa a mis padres y buscar mejorar la salud de mi padre quien padecía un problema hepático.
#
Mi sueño de un buen trabajo se cumplió en 1994 cuando pude ingresar a la primera empresa importante de mi país que es PDVSA, lo que me permitió adquirir una casa dos años después y tener un gran plan de salud para mis padres. .
#
Todo iba bien hasta que llegaron los obstáculos en 2002 con el famoso paro petrolero, donde la política entró en PDVSA y casi pierdo el trabajo. En 2014 estalló la gran crisis económica y política en mi país, que provocó que el personal de PDVSA perdiera muchos de sus beneficios, incluida la atención médica, que ya no servía para los trabajadores y sus familias, y mi padre quedó muy dolido y falleció.

Mi sueño inmediato era retirarme a los 60 años, sin embargo, con el problema político en la empresa me jubilaron a los 52 años, lo que arruinó mi sueño de retirarme a los 60 años.
#
Muchos obstáculos y reveses, en su mayoría políticos. Lo importante es que ahora, como jubilado del sector, recibo un ingreso de los intereses de mi fondo de pensiones que me facilita cubrir parcialmente los gastos familiares y otros.
#
Agradecido con Dios porque mi sueño desde muy temprano que era graduarme de la universidad se cumplió y tener un buen trabajo también pude lograrlo. Los obstáculos me llenaron de fuerza y coraje para continuar con cada meta y así obtener bienestar tanto personal como para mi familia.
#
Los obstáculos son motivos de superación personal y de confiar en que en la vida con la ayuda de Dios alcanzaremos el éxito.

My aunt was just a naive young girl when she got married off by her parent to one of the many suitors who came for her hand in marriage, as it was a common tradition in old times, she was barely 17, but as the custom, as long as you've attained puberty and already have suitors seeking your hand in marriage, their fathers wasted no time in marrying the girl off to the suitor of their choice, not even the bride's choice, and that was how my aunt's marital life started, they cared less about education, according to them women education would always end in the kitchen of their husband's house, so there was no need sending them to school, in fact marrying them off is more satisfactory to them and that was my aunt's plight, she didn't have a say, so she just did as her parent told her to, same with other girls her age even some lesser than hers.

Fortunately for her, she got married to a man who is well educated, and also loved and cherished her even though their marriage was an arranged one, they grew to love each other, years passed and they were blessed with four beautiful children, but there was always one barrier that made her often embarrassed, she wasn't as educated as her husband, she stopped her education at junior secondary school, so attending public functions with her husband made her develop inferiority complex, which often causes a strain in their marriage, her husband got fed up one morning when my aunt refused to attend an educational function with him,even though he loved her, with all her flaws, then and there, he decided that she needed to go back to school, she was in her late 30's, and wondered how it would be possible for her to cope as a married woman with children, who also has her petty business to run, there was no way she could make it, she thought, her husband used that opportunity to inform her about the new opening of the first online university in Nigeria, known as the National Open University, with their unique motto ***"Work and learn"***

with the launching of this university, obtaining a degree became easier and education, flexible and attainable by everyone who had one constrain or the other from work, family, busy lifestyle, or never just had the opportunity of going to school at an earlier age just like my aunt, and it's not just for the older citizens but young adults as well. Today, my aunt is no longer that woman with an inferiority complex, she is a graduate of computer science today and even extended to get her master's, she works at one of the biggest tech companies in Lagos and has done so much to upgrade herself and upgrade her family's status.

The introduction of online education has opened up a world of possibilities for those who may have faced barriers to traditional classroom-based learning. Individuals with disabilities, physical limitations, or distance can now access high-quality educational resources from the comfort of their homes, Gone are the days when pursuing higher education meant sacrificing career aspirations or sacrificing one important aspect of your life. With online courses, student can easily blend their studies with their busy schedules, whether they're working professionals, stay-at-home parents, or individuals living in remote areas.
Online education has also helped the youth to embrace technology in the aspect of learning, upgrading from the traditional method of learning, from what my aunt told me, becoming NOUN graduate means hard work, as there are no lecturers you could bribe to upgrade your grades just like we see as a norm in contemporary universities, the full responsibility to study you study materials rest on your shoulders if you want to pass with a good result, do for those that think online education is a getaway to get easy degree, it is not, they don't produce half baked/incompetent graduates, you work hard for your degree. It's crucial to remember that the essence of education lies in encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning.
Online education platforms strive to not only provide access to knowledge but also cultivate these essential skills, empowering learners to become agents of positive change to themselves, family, communities, and the world at large. My aunt was already a very supportive wife with the petty business she did in the past, but by attaining a degree and getting a better job offer, she expanded her business and has workers managing it, while still fully committed to her tech job, her earning definitely more than before which further improves her support to her family. Her husband is always ready to show off his wife as he is proud of her success even though she graduated from school late, and all of the inferiority complex issues my aunt dealt with in the past are all gone, in fact, she is always honored at any events she attends.
Online education is an improvement in the education sector that has the power to unlock human potential and create a more equitable and inclusive world.it is our collective responsibility to take advantage of this opportunities presented by online education, while making sure that the pursuit of knowledge remains a goal that enriches lives, brings understanding, and moves society towards a brighter future.
