As a quote the rules are as follows:</p>\n<p>Article 27 paragraph (3) Information and Electronic Transaction Law</p>\n<p><em>\"Everyone intentionally and without rights permits and / or transmits and / or makes accessible electronic information and / or electronic documents containing insults and / or defamation\".</em></p>\n<p>Article 310 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code:</p>\n<p><em>\"Anyone who intentionally opposes the honor or good name of a person by accusing something, which is meant by the light of things known to the public, is threatened because of pollution with a nine-month long security prison or a fine of a maximum of four thousand five hundred rupiah\".</em></p>\n<p><em>So, I don't think this also happened in Indonesia. It is a civil suit that someone makes against another person for writing or speaking about the person in a way that brought disgrace or ridicule. </p><p>Defamation can be against a person or an organisation. These are law suits that are binding by the law of every country. It's punishable and the penalties are usually severe. </p><p>Usually, with cases like this, individuals and companies would file for damages and demand that a certain amount be paid to them. </p><p>I have seen a case when someone was accused to gave defamed a woman's character that cost her her marriage and job. She filed for defamation of character and requested that damages be paid to her in the millions. She eventually won the case against the individual and made some good money in the process. </p><p>It's the reason why people have to be careful about the things that they say and write about people. We have gossips and bloggers today who write damning things about people all in a bid to have some agenda for discussion or make some money to themselves.
