It's punishable and the penalties are usually severe. </p><p>Usually, with cases like this, individuals and companies would file for damages and demand that a certain amount be paid to them. </p><p>I have seen a case when someone was accused to gave defamed a woman's character that cost her her marriage and job. She filed for defamation of character and requested that damages be paid to her in the millions. She eventually won the case against the individual and made some good money in the process. </p><p>It's the reason why people have to be careful about the things that they say and write about people. We have gossips and bloggers today who write damning things about people all in a bid to have some agenda for discussion or make some money to themselves.
