Great question, I was actually about to give an answer that was completely wrong but I decided to do a little research and found out what it really was so thanks for asking the question!!

So dry fasting is basically a type of fasting where you don't EAT or DRINK anything for a stipulated amount of time, or for a particular amount of time everyday. It's often done for religious purposes or simply to cleanse the body of any and all things that you've invested in the last couple of days.

Apparently there are actually two types of dry fasting, there's soft dry fasting and hard dry fasting.

Hard dry fasting is the ultimate type of fasting, it's the real deal, you aren't even allowed to let a single drop of water touch your body for any reason whatsoever. The only thing that's allowed to enter your body is air from your nostrils.

Soft dry fasting is a type of dry fasting where you are allowed to at least come in contact with water. You are allowed to brush your teeth and take a bath, you just aren't allowed to ingest anything...I wonder if you're allowed to swallow saliva.

From what I've just learned, I can say in good faith that I've never actually performed a dry fast before, I've done a 21 day fast from 6am to 6pm every day, but even during the fasting period, the only thing I wasn't allowed to do was eat, I could drink water but no food was allowed to enter my mouth. Maybe I'll give dry fasting a try.

I hope this helps.

There are certain days in month that people do fasting and sometimes during festival seasons like Navaratri, Shivratri, and Karwa Chauth, Ashtami, the eighth day of the festival of Durga Puja are very well known festive season when you will see people in India fasting on those days of the festivals season. The fasting that we have here in India is not that difficult as we are allowed to eat once in a day and can also have water but some fast like Karwa Chauth does not allow you to have water as well throughout the day.
\n
I'll not get into the reasons of fasting and coming directly onto your question - What is dry fast/fasting. There are a two types of fasting
\n
Dry fast & a Soft fast.
\n
Dry fasting - is also known as black fasting and is a kind of fasting that is done without food or water intake during the fasting period. In dry fasting, you shouldn't be touching water at all, no bathing, no washing hands, dishes etc. When dry fasting the body persists on metabolic water, produced internally as a result of metabolizing fat tissue.
\n
Soft fasting - Soft dry fasting allows you to come in contact with water i.e you can take showers, wash your hands, brush your teeth etc but not allowed to eat anything during the fasting period.
\n
Following are some of the great benefits of Dry fasting:-
\n
\n
Enhanced cognitive function and protection
\n
High anti-inflammatory activity
\n
Balance lipids
\n
Glycemic control
\n
Prevention from diabetes
\n
Lower blood pressure
\n
Healthy heart
\n
Healthy bones
\n
\n

\n
\n
So altogether Dry fasting is hard and difficult and is not suitable for beginners and it shouldn’t be done without prior knowledge.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"f3kmw5d75","appParentAuthor":"enjoyinglife","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
