Like all animals, dogs can actually cause some really nasty diseases and infections in human beings and some of them include:

1. Rabies: As a kid I was told that if I even got too close to a dog I'd catch rabies and the treatment woukd require me to take 21 injections on my belly. In truth Rabies is actually an extremely deadly disease which affects the brain and it transmitted through saliva. If you begin to show any symptoms then the likelihood of you surviving are really slim.

2. Capnocytophaga bacteria: This bacteria is found in the mouths of alot of animals, dogs included, ordinarily it won't make you sick but if you have a weakened immune system then spending time with your dog could lead to one illness or the other. It could be spread through cuts and small bites so if you know you have a weak immune system or you suffer from something like HIV then be very careful around dogs

3. Pasteurella: This is a bacteria that's seen in most infected dog bites and it can cause extreme pain and redness in the affected area. Like the previous one, it's most harmful to people with weak immune systems.

4. Tetanus: Any open wound can be exposed to Clostridium tetani which causes tetanus and when a dog bite is extremely deep you run a risk of being infected. The disease is characterized by rigid paralysis in people.

I hope this helps.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pksv5z7dx","appParentAuthor":"ostupid","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
