| body | "###### Hello, good morning everyone. Today I chose to talk about the surf film that I wrote and directed where I am inspired by the work of the artist Abdias do Nascimento. The film is called Okê Okê.

### Abdias do Nascimento
Abdias do Nascimento was an actor, poet, writer, playwright, artist, university professor, politician and activist for the civil and human rights of black Brazilian populations. When I got to know his work, I was impacted by the powerful performance in various environments of black Brazilian culture, I am a young black man coming from a periphery in Brazil, that is, seeing a person like him with actions both in the arts and politics made me feel inspired and instigated to know more about his actions.

He was the creator of the Negro Experimental Theater, The Teatro Experimental do Negro (TEN) was founded on October 13, 1944, in Rio de Janeiro, on the initiative of economist and actor Abdias do Nascimento (1914–2011), with the support of Brazilian friends and intellectuals. The company's action proposal is to rehabilitate and socially value the cultural heritage, identity and dignity of Afro-Brazilians. A great artist who, in his work, influenced the blacks of Brazil who seek a decolonial vision of Brazil. It was in this vision of a decolonial Brazil that Okê Okê's script starts.

### Why a surf movie?
Okê Okê is an imagery essay that goes through the northeast of Brazil to the south looking for non-obvious surfers and the ways to express themselves on top of their tablas. Searching for an originally Brazilian aesthetic for surf films.I took a trip to Bahia, I imagined many aesthetic possibilities due to the great beauty that this beloved state has. It was amazing to be able to reconnect with images I created from a place I frequented as a teenager before becoming a filmmaker. Before I was a filmmaker I was a surfer, but not before I was a photographer, which is a profession I learned from my father when I was little. My first project was surfing, which is @we.collectivee, so why not come back and make a surf film at this more mature moment? Of those with our identity, our cultural nuances, our Brazilian music.

I was born in the city of Serra, I grew up surrounded by several cultural expressions in Espírito Santo. Congo is a space rich in history and ancestry, where the cultural manifestation known as Congo is found with its musical and poetic plurality, dialoguing with the Afro-Brazilian cultural diversity. This musical dynamic is marked by signs that are very reminiscent of the way I think about surfing, so I went to Roda D'água, a region in the interior of Caricica to record the Congo Carnival and interact along with surfing in the film.

Then we travel to Rio, where we find classic conditions on a wheel lost on the coast of Flumimense. My goodfriend, Maze shaper by Maze Surfcrafts, pulled the boat and put on the alternative performance. Lots of torn and abstract lines with the little guys from the Lakes Region.

I love how people see surfing there, it's a real experience where the fun with surfing comes first from any commitment, so if you have it with the locals there, you can prepare to experience a lunch before surfing, laughter, stories and lots of fun.

### Waves in Espírito Santo
Espírito Santo has high waves, of all kinds, reefbreaks, sand bottom waves and mind-blowing slabs. It bothered me that our photographic and audiovisual production did not contemplate this richness of the quality of our waves, Okê Okê tries to explain this with one of our best waves, which is Regencia, the queen, the beach of the tubes. One of the best waves in Brazil, those who disagree have never come to see it. This magic within a village where the Congo has a strong expression, a riverside community on the banks of the great Doce River, the same one that suffered from the impacts of savage capitalism in the tragedy caused by the Vale and Samarco companies.
