Harvey Specter is a fictional character from the series Suits played by Gabriel Macht. He is a high-ranking lawyer at Pearson-Hardman, his law firm, his main characteristics are his geniality and his philosophy of life, he is a man with his feet on the ground, narcissistic, persuasive and with an impetus to always win. He works hard to achieve his goals, thus becoming the youngest managing partner in his firm. Along with Mike Ross, Donna Poulsen, Rachel Zane, Louis Litt and other brilliant characters they gave us one of the best labor series in history, Suits is a wonderful series of lawyers that I definitely recommend, it has great character developments and touches deep issues such as work, love, happiness, success, among others. In this post, as in the series, we will put the focus on Harvey and his genius by analyzing five of his phrases.
> "I don't have dreams, I have goals".
As I said before, he is a character with his feet on the ground who fights day by day to achieve his goals, I like his philosophy because it clashes with popular phrases, those of "chase your dreams" or "if you really want something the universe will provide it", they are phrases that people say and they are really far from reality, Harvey is always in reality, we must pursue and fulfill our goals, I could not agree more, if we set something as a dream we are taking away importance and stop fighting a little bit for that, since we see it as something impossible that may or may not happen, instead if we set goals we can make them happen.
>"If you try you will fail, the verb is to do."
This phrase (like almost all of Harvey's) is related to the previous one, trying is fine, but doing is better. Trying at something is part of the construct of achieving that something, Harvey never loses, so instead of trying he just does it, no matter how many times he fails, the point of trying is to give a consolation if you fail, but the point of persisting is to do.
>"It's not bragging if you're telling the truth."
I like this phrase a lot because socially there is a stigma that tells us that if we brag about some skills we have we are bragging, being narcissistic and not very humble, but if that quality is true you are not bragging about anything, you are simply describing the reality, if a great artist says he is a great artist they label him as not very humble and that he went up in his head, but he simply makes description of his qualities as an artist, the same with Harvey, he is a great lawyer and he has no qualms in saying it.
>"I don't play the odds, I play the man."
It is interesting this way of looking at betting or everyday life itself, in the odds there is no certainty of winning, because it is something that can be as possible as impossible, leaving everything in the hands of chance is even dangerous, that is why Harvey himself is looking for something that if he can control and read, that is why he plays with the man, the human essence makes us predictable if someone knows how to read us, with that and a little bit of mental game and Harvey always manages to win, or always gets the best deal, it is important to keep in mind this phrase in case we run into a Harvey Specter, or simply to use it, if you know how to read the man you can come out advantageous in any situation.
>"Do you want to change your life? Change your mindset."
We saw that Harvey has a very interesting mentality and philosophy, maybe this is due to his constant changes in the way he thinks, changes are substantially about that, if we don't change our way of thinking and doing things we will never be able to change our way of living, we have to get used to our comfort zone being out of our comfort zone, this way we see the world and get used maybe to its adversities, this way we learn to better solve day to day problems and look life in the face without coming out defeated, we must make our way.
For these and other things like listening to good music I like the character of Harvey Specter, even though many people find him a jerk, I think the best quality a person can have is self-confidence, and Harvey of course has it.

Harvey Specter es un personaje ficticio de la serie Suits (La ley de los audaces en español) interpretado por Gabriel Macht. Es un abogado de alto rango en Pearson-Hardman, su firma legal, sus características principales son su genialidad y su filosofía de vida, es un hombre con los pies en la tierra, narcisista, persuasivo y con ímpetu de ganar siempre. Trabaja duro para conseguir sus metas, de esa manera llegó a ser el socio director más joven en su firma. Junto a Mike Ross, Donna Poulsen, Rachel Zane, Louis Litt y otros brillantes personajes nos regalaron una de las mejores series laboristas de la historia, Suits es una maravillosa serie de abogados que sin duda recomiendo, tiene grandes desarrollos de personajes y toca temas profundos como el trabajo, el amor, la felicidad, el éxito, entre otros. En este post, como en la serie, pondremos el foco sobre Harvey y su genialidad analizando cinco de sus frases.
>“No tengo sueños, tengo metas”
Como dije antes, es un personaje con los pies en la tierra que lucha día a día por conseguir sus objetivos, me gusta su filosofía porque choca con las frases populares, esas de “persigue tus sueños” o “si realmente deseas algo el universo te lo proveerá”, son frases que dice la gente y realmente están alejadas de la realidad, Harvey está siempre en la realidad, hay que perseguir y cumplir nuestras metas, no podría estar más de acuerdo, si nos planteamos algo como un sueño le estamos quitando importancia y dejando de luchar un poco por eso, ya que lo vemos como algo imposible que puede suceder o no, en cambio si fijamos metas podemos hacer que sucedan.
>“Si lo intentas fracasarás, el verbo es hacer”
Esta frase (como casi todas las de Harvey) está relacionada con la anterior, intentarlo está bien, pero hacerlo es mejor. Intentar algo forma parte de la construcción de lograr ese algo, Harvey nunca pierde, por lo tanto en vez de intentarlo solo lo hace, sin importar cuantas veces no lo logre, el punto de intentar es dar un consuelo si se fracasa, pero el punto de persistir es hacer.
>“No es alardear si estás diciendo la verdad”
Esta frase me gusta mucho porque socialmente hay un estigma que nos dice que si alardeamos sobre algunas habilidades que tenemos estamos presumiendo, siendo narcisistas y poco humildes, pero si esa cualidad es cierta no se alardea sobre nada, simplemente se describe la realidad, si un gran artista dice que es un gran artista lo tildan de poco humilde y de que se le subieron los humos a la cabeza, pero simplemente hace descripción de sus cualidades de artista, lo mismo con Harvey, es un gran abogado y no tiene tapujos en decirlo.
>“No juego con las posibilidades, juego con el hombre”
Es interesante esta manera de ver las apuestas o la vida cotidiana en sí, en las probabilidades no hay ninguna certeza de ganar, porque es algo que puede ser tan posible como imposible, dejar todo en las manos del azar es hasta peligroso, por eso mismo Harvey busca algo que si puede controlar y leer, por eso juega con el hombre, la esencia humana nos hace predecibles si alguien sabe leernos, con eso y un poco de juego mental y labia Harvey siempre consigue ganar, o siempre consigue el mejor trato, es importante tener en cuenta esta frase por si nos topamos con un Harvey Specter, o simplemente para usarla, si se sabe leer al hombre se puede salir ventajoso en cualquier situación.
>“¿Quieres cambiar tu vida? Cambia tu manera de pensar”
Vimos que Harvey tiene una mentalidad y una filosofía muy interesante, quizá esto se deba a sus constantes cambios en la manera en que piensa, los cambios se tratan sustancialmente de eso, si no cambiamos nuestro modo de pensar y de hacer las cosas nunca vamos a poder cambiar nuestro modo de vivir, nos tenemos que acostumbrar a que nuestra zona de confort sea fuera de nuestra zona de confort, así vemos el mundo y nos acostumbramos quizá a sus adversidades, así aprendemos a solucionar mejor los problemas del día a día y mirar a la vida a la cara sin salir derrotados, debemos hacer nuestro camino.
Por estas y otras cosas como que escucha buena música el personaje de Harvey Specter me cae bien, a pesar de que mucha gente lo encuentre imbécil, creo que la mejor cualidad que puede tener una persona es la seguridad en sí mismo, y Harvey por supuesto que la tiene.
