Bill & Ted Face the Music is a continuation of the adventures of the title characters, which appeared after almost 30 years. Did it make sense to go back to something that, after these decades, is not so recognizable outside the United States? The series is considered a cult series because the first installments were a cosmically crazy no-holds-barred ride with a dose of very bizarre adventures and even more unusual humor. Naturally, such a production can never achieve a more universal status, but it is hard to deny fans and some charm. The third part, however, due to its convention, may evoke mixed feelings.
First of all, throughout the film, you get the impression that the whole concept has burned out and that this sequel feels forced in the plot. However, what they were supposed to do didn't work out, and again Bill and Ted set off on a journey through time to discover their perfect song that will save the universe. In this case, however, their jumps in time are too banal and hackneyed, because meeting older versions of themselves most of the time seems totally pointless. Don't even try to find any cause-and-effect sense in it, what a miracle they might be in the future, if they jump from the past, because no one is interested here and it doesn't matter. The problem is that their adventures and conversations with themselves, instead of adding humor (and this is the basis of the series), crazy adventures and madness, are only a pretext for Bill and Ted to mature. And this also becomes another point that causes mixed feelings, because the gentlemen, despite the passage of 30 years, have not changed at all. They have wives and children, but they are identical in character, personality and approach to life. And this spoils the impression a bit, because instead of taking the chance to give something fresh and new to this duo, they repeat everything that every fan of the series knows and that does not match what stage of life they are at. Using time travel to correct this is just an average substitute. It would be much better if they had been different right away - especially since their daughters are literally copies of them. And this is the feeling of being redundant and not developing this series in relation to the previous parts.
Understanding and receiving Bill and Ted Face the Music very much depends on feeling into an absurd convention, which in this part is completely different from its predecessors. It has this madness with a lot of emphasis on music, because it is supposed to save the universe in the end. Everything in this aspect is obviously quite simple, obvious, and although it sounds nice in the final, there is no fire or claw here. Something that I noticed overnaturally and saw some emotions. And to the point B in order to collect the music legend, to have a band, is to create the scenario along the line of least resistance. A story like this doesn't have the madness to it, it's quite the weirdness that fits this series. It is all too simple, trivial and obvious. Even the final twist becomes so forced and spoils the perception of the characters of Bill and Ted. Of course, there is no lack of a bizarre relationship with Death, who threw the music through the events known from the previous part, but this is a treat for those who know the series, because new viewers who decide to watch will not understand the references. Not that Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter found each other in their roles and copied years of reviews of their characters with that distinctive charm that still entertains. It is a pity that not as much as before due to the lack of creative introduction.
