It also doesn’t mention how fucking expensive these damn cars have gotten! It’s insane the prices for the damn things and often goes unsaid. As well though people are buying used cars more because of that. I know we put off getting a car we wanted this year because it’s just a shit show and hopefully with waiting, we could get it at a better price next year.

Osborne effect. According to Wikipedia, "The Osborne effect is a social phenomenon consisting of customers canceling or delaying purchases of soon-to-be-obsolete items, causing financial problems for a company that announces a future product prematurely."

It can happen to an entire industry when its customers think a new generation of superior products is just around the corner.

I think EV and the Solar farming is really the future. It's sad that lobbies who are making moolah through fuel economy are not helping the EV and Solar in the market. They are trying to stop those from progressing. But eventually even china is pushing this and likely to make a large part of the world not dependent on oil. 

Asians are quick on EV adoption and that will soon have effect on the auto sales.The reason being climate wise EV batteries and the EV performance is good in Asia, Africa and some other parts of the world. I can't say the same for EV in Nevada or other places where there is negative temp.

i will be looking to keep my old car going as long as i can and i think there are many others in this inflation environment who will be looking to do the same, yes evs will pick up some of that difference but in general i agree it isn't a good sign or reflection of a strong economy, more will stay with their old vehicles as it is better to stick with something you know the history of and has served you well so far imo

Anyone who thinks that the majority or even 30% of Americans want an EV over an affordable gas or hybrid alternative is an *absolute retard*. 

Where do people who have EVs and who evangelize EVs actually live? 

I don't think it's Earth where most of the rest of us call home. 

Most Americans have less than $1000 in their name. Does any serious person think us real Americans can or would want to have a $40k+ EV that needs to be replaced every 5 years when the battery goes? 

What is the worth of an EV with a dead cell? I'm guessing it's not half the original KBB value of the car. 

Know what real Americans want? A care under $15k with 4 seats that will run for the next 10 years and will get 35MPG. 

That's what Americans want and need. We don't need a fucking dystopian EV future where everything is tracked, every bit of data is scrubbed up so your entire daily routine is mapped out somewhere in Honda corporate and also Facebook and we all need to religiously upgrade every 3-5 years when the planned obsolescence or (reality of batteries being prone to failure) sets in. 

I hate eletric cars and you should too. 

It is complicated since many people prefer to take care of their vehicles for some time before changing it every year for another one of the year. A plan is needed to help this important aspect of the economy continue to develop as it has been doing.

I think it's the combination of gas prices going up and discretionary spending dropping. It's leading people to think before they start spending on something like a car.

Frankly, buying a car has become unnecessary for most people at this time. Petrol is very expensive. Everyone is having economic problems and it looks like things will only get worse. That's why it's best for me to focus on basic needs.

Food, Groceries, Gas, Utilities and general goods are all sky high and getting worse by the day, I think those who aren't yet "hurt" are already scaling back and some just simply don't have a choice.  

Personally we are eating out less, buying less meat and lower cuts of steak.  *My favorite Ribeyes are currently selling for about $25 a pound locally, that's a luxury now, where a few months ago it was a weekly staple at $9.99 here in WA.

I shop more sales and question purchases more than usual.  

Young middle class families who are not on Public Assistance are really struggling.  

Funny how we had a government in full response to Covid, but who just keep denying the financial hardships many are in.  

It's pretty gross really.

Who has the money to buy a car when they could not pay for food and housing? 

EV problem is battery technology is not mature yet, and the pollution from mining to end of life disposal is not "green"
