## The Cryptocurrency space has grown and learnt a lot of important lessons this year.

Over the year, the value of 1 bitcoin rose sharply, from $900 USD in January to over $20,000 USD in December, before leveling off again.

# The Future Of Bitcoin Is Uncertain
With the recent use of Bitcoin skyrocketing, the community realized that we need a way to scale Bitcoin so more transaction volume can be processed.
#### There is a big problem though!
The Bitcoin community has split in two!
The first side supports Bitcoin Core's ***scaling solution (Segwit and Lightning Network)***, while the other side supports ***bigger block sizes (Bitcoin Cash).***

When you send me Bitcoin, for example, the transaction will be transmitted to ***miners*** to be recorded onto the Blockchain.
## Each Bitcoin block has a size limit of 1 MB. This causes a limit to the number of transactions that are able to record onto each of those blocks.
### In fact, the Bitcoin blocks are almost always full!
This was not what Satoshi Nakamoto originally envisioned, he added a line of code which capped the Block size to 1MB momentarily. It was originally said to be changed if deemed neccesary.
But the current BitCore members do not seem to want to follow Satoshi's original plan, which is scary to some, while most people in our modern society either are misinformed or do not care about "scaling solutions".

#### Bitcoin Transaction Fees Are Through The Roof!

Miners instinctively choose to process transactions with the highest fees, this causes a bid for the right to access the Blockchain.
### Satoshi most certainly wanted a free market where transaction fees are next to nothing or actually nothing!
Bitcoin Cash has succeeded in providing us the usability and freedom we experienced when we got our first Bitcoins, which is great!
We must be cautionary by diversifying our portfolios for 2018, in my opinion.
